  1. Thanks Dann! It is a pretty simple kit but such a unique and important car. It will be my first resin kit, so we'll see how it goes. It is beautifully casted, no problems that I can find. I know this is not much of an update. I researched what to do to prepare the resin before you begin work, paint, etc. And of course, there are many different opinions! I thought I would play it safe and incorporate the two most prevalent opinions and/or suggestions. I soaked the parts in Westley's, now Black Magic's, Bleche-Wite and then scrubbed them with an old toothbrush. I rinsed them off and then... I soaked them in soapy water for several hours and then scrubbed them again.
  2. Just wanted to say thank you to all of you who took a minute to comment on the F430. I really do appreciate it!
  3. Paul, you Sir, are one heck of a model builder!! That is a beautiful car!
  4. Now that I have the Fujimi Ferrari F430 done, I was trying to decide what to build next. The F430 was box stock but I spent a good amount of time on it as I want to enter it in the Box Stock class at model contests. So, what's next? Something simple? A full blown, detailed build? After seeing Droogie's 1:43 Miller 91 model, I remembered my Etzel's Speed Classics / American Racing Miniatures Frank Lockhart's 1928 LSR Stutz Black Hawk kit. I have never built or even used anything made of out resin. Nor have I really messed with white metal. The Stutz Black Hawk kit is made of just resin and white metal parts. In my opinion, parts wise, it is a very simple kit. Assembly may be another thing altogether. I have checked out various message boards and YouTube videos on preparing and building resin kits. I think I can do this! I will try to do regular updates and as always, explain why I do what I did, whether right or wrong. I am open to suggestions and comments, good or bad. Here are pictures of the kit and contents. I have no idea why I get the dreaded 404 error every doggone time I try to add pics to this post. Right below, I added the pictures without any problem whatsoever. Grrrrr.
  5. Looking forward to watching this one!
  6. Great looking hotrod!, (to quote John Force). I like seeing this old straight liners. You did a nice job on this one!
  7. To further my point, I was just over on FB in the Tamiya Model Magazine group and saw a beautiful Rothmans Porsche go down in flames due to Zero 2K clear totally screwing up ALL of the decals....
  8. Very cool!! Is this one of the original kits of Bigfoot? I bought one while stationed overseas in 1986ish. I thought it was one of the coolest kits.
  9. Shoot, I feel like such a mooch. I'm the one who is always learning here. I feel like I never have much to offer in the way of information. This model is just getting better and better!
  10. Just saw this, not sure how I missed it. For me, the ride height can make or break a NASCAR model. You nailed it! Everything else looks just as good as the ride height!
  11. I have come so, so, soooo close to this but have never done it. I know I would be even madder after I did it. On the other hand, I have lost it and destroyed other, more expensive items in the past...lol.

Hey guys, check out American Racing Miniatures. I'm thinking they have this kit(?) I'm not 100% sure if they are still in business or not. Even if they are not, you may still find their kits for sale.

That has got to be very small! It looks fantastic. Great model of a really cool subject!
  14. I really like it, John! It is one nice looking model.
  15. Wow, Chris!! That is fantastic! You just have to love those 1:12 Tamiya kits. There is just so much opportunity to add details, as you did. Your work is very crisp and clean. Thanks for sharing.
  16. Lloyd, believe it or not, it is not clear coated. I have a couple of reasons for that. If you look in the build thread, it can be seen that I polished the body out to a pretty good shine. I was worried that all of the compounds, polishes, etc. that I used to do that would adversely react to the clear. I did wash the body with Dawn afterwards, but I was still worried. Secondly, to the best of my knowledge, there are no aftermarkets decals for this thing. I don't mean F430s but this exact livery. I have read far too many times where the supposed neutral clear did in fact screw up some or all of the decals on someone's build. Thirdly, I made the one placard on the fender. I was worried that the decal bonder, (the stuff you spray on homemade decals), would maybe react with the clear. And lastly, I cut those doggone decals so close to the image that there is very little carrier film to see. I actually did want to clear the body and decals but was just too scared to do it!
  17. That is one great looking Vette!!
  18. Looks like a case of a silk purse from a sow's ear! She looks good to me, John!
  19. Just off of the workbench. This is Fujimi's Ferrari F430 Challenge. She is a hard kit to find. I built it box stock. Below is the link to the build thread. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/121812-ferrari-f430-challenge/
  20. Alright, guys, she is finished! I'll post this one "teaser" picture and later I will start a new thread in the Under Glass section. Thanks for following along!
  21. Tim, you are a wealth of information! I appreciate all of your input on this build. I did a very quick look at their site. I will be going back to check it out more, later.
  22. Nice looking models, Doug! I have not seen the #73 livery before. Thanks for sharing!
  23. Fantastic!
  24. She looks good to me, John! I will be looking forward to the finished model.
