  1. For truck modelers the best is stainless steel from Plano Model Products. They have a large amount of stuff geared towards model trains, but they also have mesh specially made for 1/24 and 1/25 trucks for grille screen, including the standard apex slotted, round-hole, and Peterbilt oval mesh. http://www.planomodelproducts.com/scratch_scq.html
  2. Very true, members could adapt and become more descriptive in their titles, but I don’t think they will in most cases. It places the responsibility of creating a user friendly platform on the user, rather than the creator. That never works in the real world. As a result, I believe now a thread question has less of a chance of being answered thoroughly because the members who normally browse the Truck Stop are not going to take the albeit small, but extra effort to browse a broader category and differentiate content titles. This is especially true when a broader category with more frequent new posts will drive a thread downward on the list and over to page two more quickly. I understand the desire to consolidate and simplify, but in this particular case I believe it is at the expense of a valuable resource to hobbyists. There are separate truck and car categories for all other facets, including workbench, under glass, aftermarket, and industry news. This is to make it more user friendly. Can you imagine the confusion and awkwardness if any of those were merged? The general discussion is no different, especially as it pertains to specialized subject matter.
  3. 100% Agree! I spent most, but not all of my time, in the truck section and I’m extremely disappointed to see “The Truck Stop”, one of the most useful truck categories, merged into a huge blanket category of general discussion. Now it is harder to figure out if it’s a useful new thread or not. For example, I’d never click on a thread title of “22 inch wheels” in a car section. Those are silly. But I’d always click a title of “22 inch wheels” in the truck section. A HUGE difference.
  4. Great work. Really nice looking paint. Excellent photography. It’s builds like these that do the best advertising for the kit. I’d like to get one of these now.
  5. That’s a great looking rig.
  6. Throw some orange stripes on that white 579 and you’ve got yourself a fleet. Nice work, and a great way to display your cars. I’d love to see a group photo of your enclosed car haulers, too.
  7. Very cool work, neat project.
  8. The hauler bed is looking good. I like the taillight treatment and the RV 5th wheel.
  9. I like the aero skirts. Are they 2-ply?
  10. Looks great indoors or out, but yeah, what a difference natural light makes on that paint!
  11. It’s a great article, thanks for writing it! I love the articles that group kit history based on subject matter. A very useful resource.
  12. It’s probably hard to predict what kits you could “invest” in, (and really not the best financial plan anyway) but this one has been good choice. I bet you could buy two kits when it’s released, build one, and later sell one and easily get all your money back.
  13. An excellent build, and example of a quintessential car of that era. Everything looks period-correct, and I think that’s why it’s such a convincing replica.
  14. It is nice, go with Dave’s Ultra Roof. With FG and P&P gone, I believe the only source for that roof upgrade is Dave and Shapeways, and Dave’s is better. I think you can get daycab panels from GW Trucks, if I remember correctly. FG did have nice parts.
  15. Good. Good. I’ve been patiently waiting, regretting not getting one last time, yet refusing to pay the ridiculous prices they’re going for on eBay and at the shows.
  16. Outstanding! Wow, that’s incredible detailing under the hood - the highest level in realism.
  17. Good possibilities. Thanks for posting.
  18. Interior is looking good. And yes, HDTs are typically less expensive, safer (braking power), stronger and more durable than the more common dually pickups.
  19. Another interesting and unique project.
  20. Great project idea. I share your affinity for everything RV related, I believe it’s a love passed down from generation to generation, as I’ve been camping since I was a kid. I’ve been to the RV museum too, and I was able to tour a couple manufactures while I was camping in Northeast Indiana a few years ago, including Showhauler. I have a E450 chassis class C, but of course, I’d like to upgrade someday to something built on a class 8 truck chassis. Until I can have a real one, building models of them will have to do. For the Smart Car, Revell made a 1/24 kit that came out years ago. I’m not sure how rare they are, but here’s a pic. I can’t imagine the kit was very popular, but odd subjects sometimes fill a void, like in this case. Anyway, good luck on this project, I’m certainly a fan that’ll cheer this one on.
  21. Thanks! Eventually, I would like to scratch build a matching stacker trailer for it. As of right now, I’m going to build more of a standard-type enclosed trailer from a Galaxie Limited kit, modified a bit.
