What a happy ending for this project! Paul, do you think the master could be scanned and the model be 3-D printed, or even use the file to produce some short-run injection molds? It's definitely that good.

What gauge wire is in the M.A.D. distributors? I have some 30 gauge wrapping wire I got from eBay; it seems slightly thicker than the M.A.D. stuff.

Did good at the LMMCC meeting last night; won a Millennium Edition '66 Nova in the raffle (a kit I somehow never got around to building), and a near-mint PMC styrene '59 Ford Ranch Wagon body from another member (which of course is one Skyliner kit away from being a near-complete car). Also passed along a big boxful of Tom P.'s parts molds to Pedro of Page Resins; lots of little obscure bits and pieces in them.

Not sure but I bet the decals were either aftermarket or from a non-AMT kit due to the film on the stars that matches their shape (most AMT kits used a continuous coat of clear film over the whole sheet). If you're careful (and lucky) you can cut the brown part away from the stars and scrape it off. Good luck and hope we see a build thread soon!

It's not for nothing - when the model rolls off the shelf, you know more accurately how fast it went!

It's a wheel used for drive tests; IIRC it shows the correct speed to check the speedometer for accuracy. It should have more spokes like a bicycle wheel; AMT based it on the '27 T/'29 A outer wheel to fit the available tire.

Ooeee. For what it's worth, my first resin build - a Modelhaus Edsel - seems to be as straight as it was when I built it some 30 years ago.

For the first minute and a half it's like watching a nervous noob in driver's ed learning to parallel park!

It would be a real slog, but theoretically possible. You'd need the Franklin Mint Citation convertible, the Danbury Mint '57 Mercury Turnpike Cruiser for the roof (the C-pillars would still need extensive mods), and a lot of motivation to convert it to a four-door and fill in the coves after removing the Citation trim. Probably more likely to show up as a 3-D print someday.

It makes me think twice about how much to bid, mainly. Most recently I picked up a '57 Buick Roadmaster promo to get all the chrome parts for a rare styrene body; I'd watched several until I got a good deal. Like Duke I have pretty much my whole want list, and I've gotten better at casting with experience for the hard-to-find parts, so I'm good. (He says. )

Got the wheels and tires from the '60 Ranchero, plus some S&S photoetched interior details and wiring looms, from one of the parts sellers on eBay.

Early this morning, went to work on the '57 Roadmaster's trunk and hood: until they had the right shape; also cut loose half of the passenger side drip rail and moved it up to make it straight.

Early this morning I put in a bunch of time whittling to clean up the Bichi '57 Buick body, as well as removing all the Agente de C.I.P.O.L. (Man from U.N.C.L.E.) decals. Looks a lot better now, except that now I see the roof is rather wavy - will have to do some reshaping. Cut about 3/8" off the front screw posts to fit the front bumper/grille from the AMT promo; finished stripping everything else from the promo body. Stared a while at the '65 Nova's engine; still trying to decide whether to drill out the kit distributor or just use the M.A.D. one.

Looks like a '67 or '68 Caprice coupe: The Caddy's a '60: You could build it from the Jo-Han '60 Fleetwood; for the wheelcovers use the '74 Chevy Impala ones and replace the bowties with Caddy crests.

Thread from the dead, but those are real nice tires - I have one in my tire stash and wish I had a full set. It's held up well - I can see some fine age cracks in the sidewall, but that's it - no turning to goo or splitting like some do.

...with the working head and taillight parts deleted - headlight lenses were molded to the grille (better than they did on the '64 Chevy reissue). Glad to see that '64 (!) Chevelle trim piece return - my Craftsman has a broken one. That's the '64 rear bumper, too, with the year removed - it had no backup lights. Hmm...
