Correct; they're molded a bit thicker and you'd have to file off a lot of material to open them up.

Little over 100 built, probably 200-250 unbuilt. Want to get a '60 Ford pickup and a '66 Skylark and that's about it. (He says.)

I had one as one of my childhood builds; the less said about it, the better... I do remember painting it with AMT lacquer; some sort of copper or bronze. Think I might still have one wheelcover.

Buy a '66 Skylark Craftsman, so in a few months Chad can tell us what the cool things about it are.

Last weekend there was an auction of the contents of an old service station in Desert Center, CA. This one caught my eye; it was the second-highest bid vehicle at $9500: Very interesting body; I'm guessing it was set up to carry fuel in bulk and in drums? Last licensed in 1967. Might be better if they used a new rendering of a stock Ford in the original surrounding artwork, like the new box art for the '63 Impala (cribbed from the '64). Wonder if Round2 would be so kind as to put the "G A L A X I E" lettering back on the trunk lid?

Original issue AMT '57 Chevy; the roof had to be cut front to rear, side to side then glued to the glass unit and pillars trimmed. Delightful fun for all.

Third place for that stunner of a VW? Demand a recount!

into your memory

Picked up some good stuff in the last couple days. First off, a friend of mine from my car club in SoCal is thinning out his collection, so I got these from him: The TC is one of those kits I've always wanted but never got around to; I built the non-motorized version of the T long long ago. The El Camino is a bit rough but excellent Kustom fodder if I can patch the quarter panel. The rest of my friend's stuff is going up on eBay; his seller name is Packratius_Maximus (which would describe many of us ). Then, I got these from Tom Piagari's widow: The Ghia is a Hong Kong friction in (I think) slightly under 1/25; I'll have to polish out some box rash on the roof. The '57 Buick Roadmaster is an Argentine toy cribbed directly from the AMT promo but in styrene; it was a project Tom and I were both discussing doing (just got a '58 Buick chassis for it). Finally, the Renault stash was another project; I believe he wanted to build a stock R8 from the Gordini and a full-detail Dauphine from parts of three Record kits and a Hubley body. These are part of Tom's legacy; just hope I can do justice to them.

Not just gassers - my uncle ran his '57 Fairlane Town Sedan in B/MP with a 406 after yanking the 312. Poor Tulio; hope he's OK.
