Old Hobby Shop Photos
ChrisBcritter replied to Daddyfink's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My BFF grew up in Metuchen, NJ. While Googling info on his family's Chinese restaurant, I found this shot: (image from Metuchen-Edison Historical Society) The owner (second from right) had just won all this stuff in a photo contest, including a shiny new yellow '60 Studebaker Lark. -
(ETA: SfanGoch and I just PMed each other some measurements, checking lengths from center of base of windshield to c.o.b. of rear window; base of vent window to base of C-pillar; and widths at base of A and C pillars. Happily, the only difference is that the width at the A pillar base on the Pontiac is just 1 mm narrower. Nice work, AMT and Revell/Monogram... and thanks Joe!!)

Is your '59 a hardtop? I have a '59 vert I've been wanting to make into a hardtop (header is split but fixable). Body swap? If not, has anyone tried to swap the Revellogram '60 Impala roof and glass onto one of these?

No clearance items in Deerfield; will check Vernon Hills this week. Really hoping for the '53 Ford pickup to go on sale, since I already have the Foose body parts to do a '56 conversion. (By the way, if anyone got a '64 Fairlane to part out, I could use a flat hood... )

I hit the Deerfield HL yesterday; no clearance kits but I was there to get more casting rubber. Got a couple sets of '55 Dodge Lancer promo wheelcovers cast up plus a couple sets of custom cone wheelcovers from the '61 Ford pickup kit, and I'm working on trying to get some no-pinhole copies of the '63 Ford pickup's custom grille (thanks gardnerpag44 - you'll get 'em soon!) Also from eBay seller neatstuff4all: In the Heat of the Night TV police car decals; they're the closest I've found to these shields from the Cooley High Chicago Police cruiser: I'll have to scan and modify them but it's a start.

Anyone build Pinewood Derby cars? Show 'Em
ChrisBcritter replied to DPNM's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Built this dry lakes T roadster for fun back in '76 (I wasn't a Scout but my brother was): I drilled out the wheels to lighten them, which was legal then. It went like stink and even beat my brother's car (which won the official meet). Thus the notation: Just like a real lakes T: Crude but effective. -
Square Quad Headlights
ChrisBcritter replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Bill, how about this? https://www.ebay.com/itm/JO-HAN-FROM-THE-ARCHIVES-1977-CADILLAC-DATED-FRONT-BUMPER/401543607848?hash=item5d7ddd3628:g:JxgAAOSwcUBYHBKw I just looked at my '77 builtup closely, and it seems like with your skills you'd have little trouble cutting away the bezels/lenses. Make a mold and cast them in clear resin, then BMF the bezels and you'd be good to go. Worth a shot? -

I have the '62 Catalina in metallic green; I two-toned the roof in a darker green and had it clear-coated (thanks Tom P.!) since the AMT green isn't very glossy.

Divided by a common tongue
ChrisBcritter replied to DonW's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Or as we say, "spelled"... Whereas we've somehow picked up your "tarmac" for the airport area formerly called "ramp" or "apron". -
Jo-Han made four-door hardtops of the Chrysler and DeSoto from '57-'59; the X-El reissues of the '59s are styrene so theoretically you could graft one of those roofs onto the AMT kit (which would solve ONE of that kit's problems, at least ). To do a four-door sedan, IIRC, you would start with a '57 Ford hardtop roof and scratchbuild from there.

It will be good to see the '65 Riviera again, as it's one of the few '60s AMT kits I've never tackled (I do have a '64 promo). Love those wire wheels! Did only the first issue of the kit have separate red taillight lenses? First issue: Last reissue: Wish they'd fix that, but I'm sure they won't bother.

From a fellow Continental freak, that is a real beaut! It takes a very steady hand to get that edge molding clean and even.

Maybe post in the Wanted section? There's got to be one in a less picked-over HL one of us could dig up for you.

Assuming it wasn't something that was ginned up for the show? You would think an auction house that took itself seriously would have them cut to commercial. Did it broadcast just now? I'll have to check the rerun. -
