As to the wheel wells, I don’t remember, seems they were black, possibly under coated. From that pic, I’d say the gray was primer, but that’s a guess on my part.

As the rear rails are part of the floor sheet metal, they would be red oxide as well. The leaf springs were black.

I can tell you that in my experience with 2nd gen Camaro’s the ones built in the Ohio plant got red oxide primer , and on other classic GM cars I’ve owned, seems like all the cars built in the ‘eastern’ regions got red oxide primer as well.

Thanks all, guess I’ll pick up a can of each of the paints mentioned and see which one gives me the look I’m after. Thank you all again?

One would have thought maybe being AMT branded, they would’ve been a bit cheaper, guess not.

Hey all, I’m in search of a satin black ( in lacquer) that will play nice with flat black and gloss black lacquers. Also prefer something available in a rattle can, I’ve an idea for a build, but the satin black is the foundation color for it. So I ask you all, what have you found, or what technique have you used to achieve satin black?

Will be watching this one! I have one in color myself, it’s waiting it’s turn in line. love what you’ve got going so far.

I never used to think that that was such a bad looking kit, but after building 6 revell camaro’s at once, and then seeing your pics Snake, the proportions of it just jump right out at me now.........

That came out great, well done.

For me, it’s the fact that I really don’t build in the good weather months, just too much other stuff to do and enjoy, but with the weather starting to change, I got the fire again, and when the flame was reignited, I painted about 8 bodies. Those are all lined up in plain sight in my model room, and every time I look at them I get fired up.......

Thanks guys. Sam, currently have 10 projects going, all in various stages of work. More than I like to have going on, but it’s good to have other stuff to do while paint or primer or glue is drying .......

So, puttered with this a little today, did some dash work, got my mismatched seats painted and chromed up some window cranks and door handles ( replicas and miniatures items), still a lot to do on this ‘project’.

Boy oh boy, you nailed the color, absolutely perfect for that car. Also, great idea on the cargo area, perfect solution. Coming along beautifully.

I like it, cool idea on the T/A stripes.

Roof rack on Vans in the '70s
tbill replied to Luc Janssens's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Seems like they were always mounted to the drip rails, as the roof itself isn’t very strong ( as far as bolting stuff to it).
