Sounds like you've set a very high goal by attempting to build a model of every car your family owned. I hope they didn't own a bunch of four doors ?

You're chosen well. Welcome to the best forums available.

Another 62 Ford
misterNNL replied to dragcarz's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Why not construct a story about the local garage that wanted to celebrate a special anniversary of the founding of their business in 1962 so they found a clean '62 Ford pick up truck that they had restored. They proudly display it at local car shows and drive it as a parade vehicle. That would work nicely. -

Any progress? -
Seeing it finished will convince me that it's doable.

I have two Product Miniatures Co. '59(?) promos of an International Harvester Metro delivery van, One has a friction motor frame while the other has a glued-in plastic frame with a rear axle and third member. They are probably made from Cyoclac material which Always Warps.Anyway both were damaged when I got them. The friction one has nasty side panel warpage on both sides. The other is straight...but has a missing rear cargo door , a missing windshield divider pillar and the driver's side of the body is missing the lower 1/2" of "sheet metal" between the wheel wells. I am building this one into a street truck. I have replaced all the missing pieces with new scratch built ones so it's salvageable. I am wondering what scale these are. I am comparing the PMC bodies to a Flintstone # 270 IH Metro van kit in 1/25th scale. The body on the PMC piece is 6.34" long nose to tail less bumpers. The Excellent Flintstone kit body is 7.8" long less bumpers. On a 1/25th scale ruler the JF piece measurers out to 16',3". It literally will set completely over the PMC body. It has me wondering what scale the PMC unit is. My math skills are non-existent (barely passed high school gen math) so I'm hoping some one can figure this out for me. What scale is a 6.34 body that represents a truck that is 16'3" in 1:1 ?

If you live near a Crispy Crème Donuts shop check this out, According to the national news this morning this chain of donut shops is offer a second dozen their glazed donuts for a dollar(!) today if you first buy a dozen of any kind for full price! Just be sure you wash your hand after eating them and before going back to work on your models!

That's why we share those experiences here. Hopefully others will be inspired to see the potential in other cast-aside projects and bring them back to life. -

World War I Model T ambulance

Great replica of unfortunately necessary vehicle during "the war to end all wars" as it was called then. -
Are you harvesting your Gundam parts from new kits? I did some surfing on the interweb for parts only and all that comes up is new accessory or add-on parts some of which are IMO very expensive.

'49 Cadillac by J&J Resin
misterNNL replied to avidinha's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
You stock builders may want to look to Replicas And Miniatures of Maryland for his stock door handles package. I don't see any in these images. The real cars were IMHO really beautiful cars. -
34 Church Truck
misterNNL replied to OldNYJim's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I don't have or use any photo etch parts on any of my models. I try to scratch build anything I don't have. -
Welcome aboard and have fun again. Nice models there by the way.

Welcome to your new normal Bob, I recently had eye surgery to correct some problems that would have left me blind in one eye unless I did it. That means that for the first time since I was 15 I can build with no glasses needed. You'll soon find out that right now is probably the new golden age of model building. With all the stuff we can get like resin and 3D printed parts there is practically nothing that out of reach as long as it fits into your wallet that is. Welcome to the best forums available. Have fun building what you enjoy.

34 Church Truck
misterNNL replied to OldNYJim's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I have made belt buckle style hold down straps before by flattening a small diameter piece of copper wire with my tack hammer then shaping into a square-ish buckle. I used tape for the strap and dots of black paint for the belt holes. You can add an unusual mirror to the top of the spare by running the strap through the base of the mirror mount. -

Are you going to eliminate the front fender spare tire well? -
Great subtle custom work, well planned and executed. I have seen this technique used before decades ago used by a lifelong friend and one of the founding members of the NNL. Bob lives in Texas now and still has the nickname "subtle chop".

Where do you get your inspiration? I wonder if you have some favorite web/Pintrest sites you look at on a regular basis. I do have a Pinterest album for anti-gravity vehicles but those are mostly fantasy or computer generated and as such do show many if any details.Anything you share will be greatly appreciated..

You Sir are a brave soul! Cutting anything up this much is one thing but finishing it is quite another. I'll be along for the ride for sure.
