Mustang-What Year Is This One
vamach1 replied to 69NovaYenko's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I see a GT badge so that should be a 1965 with a standard 289 (non Hi-Performance) engine. The monogram kit does not have GT badging or the GT grille lights and other GT features. The wheels on the car pictured are not original. The Ford production records are not available until 1967 and my understanding was that nobody knows for sure how many GT coupe, fastback and convertible Mustangs were made for the 65 and 66 model years so I’m not sure where Wikipedia is getting it’s information. -
Looks super. Love to see more pictures of the engine and interior, etc.

Revell Ford GT Lemans 2017

Looking good Ray. I’ve been working on a couple of Mustangs in the same colors so maybe I will spray mine too. -
Even the folks at Scalemates are probably thinking how many reissues are possible from one kit that came out in the early 60s. There’s also the Sunny, Revell and some other variations ?

Well done. My favorite Mustang body style of course.

Looks great JC. -
Does anyone know the true fate of the molds of the 69/70 Grande/convertible? Some have claimed that the kit was magically transformed into a funny car kit (pictured below) which I find hard to believe as the kits have almost nothing in common with a tube chassis race car. I had the funny car kit (molded in blue) and it’s nothing like the street versions.

That’s too bad it was converted. I love the color and there were very few made as roadsters .

Retired and filthy rich. ? Well not really but I’m in good health, retired the end of 2020 with a pension and savings but my younger wife still works to support living in an expensive area. I keep busy with model building, riding my bicycle (usually 15-20 miles), going to car shows and hanging out at the pool and once in a while going to the beach. My wife gets spoiled also as I do the laundry and 90% of the cooking so she does not mind working until to pay the rent and health insurance and money left over for leisure activities.

Very nice Falcon. A friend gave me this diecast years ago. It says Model 56 Interceptor on the bottom.

I rode along and drove one of the cars for 12 laps. The #2 car was sidelined but they had plenty of others. -

Wikipedia has the list of overall winners. If expanded to class winners it would be much longer. Here post WWII to 2016 list. -

Helmet, good looking Mark IV and MKII’s. I hear you about the IMC/Testors kits. I built a 2nd one (dark blue #4) and that kit fought me a lot and it did not go together as wall as my first try. I also have a Renaissance kit still in the box and was going to do either the yellow #2 or the bronze #3 car. -

My guess is they put on whatever tires worked best for the conditions and the color of the wheels was not important over the 24 hours if they were perhaps originally intended for another car that went out of the race early. Based upon these Indycals pictures most of the cars had gold wheels but I guess it depends on what period do the race one is trying to represent over the course of the 24 hours. Looks that way so we’re half right. ? -

Before the Fujumi kits this was about the only game in town to be able to build something resembling a Mark II. It was built box stock except for Fred Cady decals. The 1/25 IMC/Testors/Union kit were basically one in the same. I originally built this Testors kit in the 1990s and I added the carb inlet and scoop a few years ago from a Fujumi kit. If I am a glutton for punishment I could build the #1 and #5 car or even the entire eight entries for 1966 Ford @AMR MKII lineup. ? -

1/43 Grand Prix, Marsh and Starter kits built in the 1990s. Had to share the smaller ones since it’s a matched set.
