67 AMT annual fastback mustang question
vamach1 replied to hedotwo's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
As Snake45 mentioned the chassis from the AMT 68 GT500 would have whatever you need. As for the louvers, I would try the ones from the newer 67 AMT fastback kit as finding original ones would be difficult. I took and original 67 fastback with a warped front end and grafted the newer front clip and it lined up pretty well. It’s pretty much a trail an error process as original parts are not worth collector prices to me unless they are very unique such as the clear hood for the 68 MPC fastback. I have posted pictures before so if you use the search function you should be able to find some old posts. -

Excellent work on another one of a kind model. Glad to see you cranking out some projects that have been around a while. I have found that sometimes waiting a long time allows the aftermarket to catch up and offer parts we could not have dreamed of being available decades earlier. -
Modeling vs. reality

Yes - appealing to six to ten years olds is more important because it is what sells in Walmart. Not sure who this Hamilton Collection 1/18 Mustang appeals to given the $99 but I guess someone is buying them to pay for the licensing. No thanks on this one or the red Jada one. -

Very nice attention to detail and it shows. A flip top Cobra would look nice next to it. ? -
Great color and added parts to turn a plain kit into a looker. ?

I plan to be there. -
Very nice clean build and I like the choice of less decals is better and the color choice. Of course I like it also because of my favorite Mustang body style.

Polar Lights Mach V and Monogram Ferrari Daytona.

Thanks. A quick Ebay search only came up with a 1/18 diecast of Racer X’s car. -
Oh man that is awful. I can deal with small snakes as they will usually not bite unless provoked but the small critters can take you by surprise. I hope she recovers quickly.

Crazy Ebay prices on them now. These used to be $40-$50 not that long ago. Here’s my #8 from leftover IMC and Testors parts that I started years ago but without the blue chassis but with a few parts from a Fujumi kit.

Nice to see another project in the win column. Taking apart a diecast is never fun but you got it back together and improved it immensely. It was neat to see the real car last year and hopefully you can someday get back to Philly to take some pictures of them together. As you mentioned WIX could have sold a whole lot more of these had they been painted in the correct markings for the 66 Lemans lineup. The MENG kit will have to do for anyone wanting to make a nice MKII with an engine and opening doors, etc unlike the Fujumi kits that have been around for decades. Well done Gary.

Is the Ferrari based on the Miami Vice version which was a look-a-like. Nice job on both. The Mach 5 is probably not an easy build. Was there ever a model of Racer X? -
Very nice unusual color. I think the kit is based on the old Mauri/Tilt molds.

Very clean build and the grabber green looks awesome. Do you plan on putting on the fender decals? It looks fine without them and makes it more of a sleeper although the hood scoop gives away what is lurking under the hood.

Most of the information was obtained via a contact I found on the 452 Bombardment Group Facebook page and websites. From that info I spent several hours researching my father’s missions at the National Archives in Maryland. I made dozens of copies of the flight logs and was amazed at the detailed information they had there and once I figured out the system it was pretty easy to locate the records.

My father flew several different B-17’s in WWII on mission out of England to bombing targets over Germany. I have found only a few black and white and color pictures of some of the planes he piloted. The colors depend on what time period of the war and where they were based (England, Pacific, etc). My suggest is to search for color pictures of a B-17G with a paint scheme you like and as long as decals are available you should find plenty of reference material from books and old FSM magazines.

There are a few options. I used Model Car World ( a spray can I bought in the 90’s). Testor’s did a grabber orange which is close. I have no idea when I bought the can of Dupli-color School bus yellow DA 1663 many years ago I have yet to finish my Boss as replicating the engine compartment is where I’ve gotten hung up. Hope this helps and refer to the SAE Dec 2013 magazine for a nice build write up.
