John Force crashes happen d in AZ today.Bad Omen
mikemodeler replied to NYLIBUD's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Both Earnhardt and Force can be credited with helping their series gain popularity due to their desire to win. I think in the case of Earnhardt's death, you are seeing drivers retire at a much earlier age so they can enjoy life. His son is a perfect example- retires wealthy, healthy and has a second career lined up as a TV commentator. -
1958/9 Chevy Cab Available?
mikemodeler replied to impcon's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
The Modelhaus offered resin kits of the 58/59 trucks, not sure if anyone else has/does? -
Chevy xtreme 454SS

Nice job getting everything to look factory. I would imagine that truck would need some ballast in the bed to keep the wheels on the ground! -
Amt 1/20 1993 GMC Sonoma
mikemodeler replied to Jared Roach's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Those things caught my eye too! I owned an 82, 88 and a 91 and while I would love to build this kit, I think I will pass as the obvious details that are wrong are a deal breaker for me. -
Revell '66 Suburban

Very nice and clean, excellent details. Those wheels look great on that truck. -
1966 Revell Suburban.....
mikemodeler replied to cruz's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Like all of your builds, very impressive! Love the color and the stance had me fooled until you said it wasn't 4wd! -
The problem with the 64-66 Revell Chevy pickup is that it is a half ton chassis and the rear end is no where near correct. It uses the trailing arm rear suspension and you will need a leaf spring type along with a HD rear end assembly. It might be a good starting point, don't know for sure. The deserter chassis is more accurate, you could probably use the rear end after you scratch build some new rear leaf springs. The front suspension from one of the recent GM Van kits would be your best bet for a 2wd. Make sure you cut out the wheel wells if you are using one of the AMT/MPC 72 Chevy kits, they are incorrect and the ones on the deserter chassis are a better match.

Best way to ship a lot of models?
mikemodeler replied to Monty's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I sold about 70 models last summer and it cost me $130 to ship them from Charlotte to Maryland via UPS. I considered the post office but figured UPS deals with larger packages all the time and was the better choice for them to arrive intact, which they did. I would think this out clearly and decide if you really need to have ALL of the models shipped to you now, or will you be returning periodically to Dallas and could possibly get them then? -
Welcome to the forum! I am in Charlotte. There are some shows coming up over the next 6 months that you might want to attend.

Anyone make a resin 1 ton dump bed
mikemodeler replied to fordf-100's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Looks pretty good. I have seen those dump beds in lengths from 8'- 12', just depends on the wheelbase of the truck. As far as width, they tend to be a foot wider on each side of the cab and sit over the dual rear wheels. I would say your's is looking pretty good, maybe shorten the front and the tailgate and the length and away you go! I am working on some ideas, I will try to finalize them while I travel this week and see about starting on my build. -
As the saying goes....Where there's a will, there's a relative! Money has a funny way of tearing families apart and causing headache and heartache.

Probably the best vehicle I owned had to be my first- a 1982 Chevy S-10 pickup. It was a bare bones no options truck, not even a radio! I installed a Blaupunkt system from a BMW and it rocked! The truck had a 1.9 liter Isuzu motor that took all kinds of abuse and never gave me any trouble. Drove it for nearly 6 years until I traded it in on a new 1988 S-10 pickup that was the opposite- fully loaded, 4x4, power everything! That was a good truck too, but nothing took the abuse like the first one. My wife drives a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe and it has been the best car we have had in 28 years of marriage. Oil changes, a battery and maintenance is all we have done in 8 years of ownership and 82,000 miles. Garage kept and still shines like new, probably gonna keep it a couple more years before unloading it.

Sorry to hear this, he seemed like such a great guy. We did a couple of trades awhile ago and talked at the time about life in Chicagoland as I am a former resident of the Northern Suburbs. RIP Johnny. -
Anyone make a resin 1 ton dump bed
mikemodeler replied to fordf-100's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
If you don't have a good razor saw and miter box to make square cuts, that will cause your project to not be square. Some people have created a jig out of small pieces of wood and used it to keep a project square during construction. Like you, scratch building something like that is somewhat intimidating but I am willing to give it a try. I like to use some thin cardboard to get a feel for what it would look like before cutting up a pile of plastic. With that said, Jeff's bed sounds reasonably priced and a whole lot easier! -
Nice work so far and great choice on the colors, would have been easier to go with orange, red or blue but these will stand out being green! This model is my favorite too as I have built close to 12 of them, some snappers, some glue, but something about that body style has me hooked!

Moebius is the logical choice due to their development of the Ford F series pickups, but given Revell's recent history of surprising us with models many of us thought we wouldn't see, my money is on Revell. Not sure how much of their 64-66 Chevy pickup parts would transfer to the 67-72 series, but they have a starting point.

AMT 1979 Ford Bronco
mikemodeler replied to Mr Stock's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Nice job, I have a couple of those to build, gathering ideas for colors and options. I think one will be built as a replica of a friends Dad's gas station plow/service truck. -
That is true, but it's best to ascertain what the owner's wishes/directions are before assuming it is theft. Always best to put something like that in writing and have it notarized, makes any legal battles or criminal charges a lot more clear if you do (personal experience).

Wheel I.D. Help, Please
mikemodeler replied to Casey's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The six lug wheel with the red painted lug nuts looks like the rear wheels out of the old AMT Modified kits of '30's and '40's cars. I remember buying a combo kit back in the '70's that included a Ford pickup, trailer and IIRC a '40 Ford modified race car and it had wheels very similar. Being on a race car probably explains the 6 lugs. -
AMT Parts Packs - Your Ideas & Suggestions?
mikemodeler replied to Casey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
A more modern medium duty truck would be most welcome, along with some different bodies for it- rollback, wrecker, dump, box, utility, boom truck. I know there are plastic models of promo trucks with these beds on them, but it sure would be nice to have them available to build. Back to the topic, having the truck parts mentioned- dump bed from the AMT Ford LN8000, the wrecker beds from the Revell kits, mixer drums from the AMT/Ertl kits- all make some kind of sense if they can be done in small runs profitably.
