  1. Appreciate the update Gregg, will look for it at the Hobby Shop.
  2. I would rather see that GMC short bed stepside come back than the poor excuse of a tow truck kit. That wrecker is not representative of any 1:1 truck that I am aware of and we would be better served putting either the bed from the Revell Midnite Cowboy wrecker kit or the resin wrecker bed from Jeff Ballard at MCRC. In a perfect world, someone would tool up a new 67-72 GM pickup kit to include a real detailed chassis, long and short bed and 2wd/4wd drivetrains. Imagine the different variations that could be done, 6 years, 2 brands and if they tried hard, they could also do a Suburban!
  3. On my calendar and looking forward to going! I will probably get a table and sell off the last of my overstock and concentrate on building ! Ha!
  4. I am on the email list from Hobby Lobby and today's email has a section for Clearance items. Some of the kits mentioned on this thread are there on the HL website on clearance but are marked 40% off, not the 75% seen in the stores. I guess if you really want some of those kits, 40% is better than nothing. I was tempted to buy a 75 Corvette but decided I needed to wait and get one at a swap meet.
  5. That's true, local tracks do produce more "real" racing! But a Chili Bowel? That's got to be painful! LOL!
  6. The trouble with races at Daytona and Talledega is that one wrong move and the field gets mangled and sometimes a driver is taken out through nothing more than being in the wrong place. I agree that the banging and wrecking might seem like a good thing, but if your driver gets knocked out early in the race, do you continue to watch? I saw some of the pre-race and caught a few minutes early on in the race but didn't watch it much until the end with 20 laps to go, much like I did the night before with the Xfinity race. Between Darrel Blabbermouth Waltrip and his annoying little brother Mikey Imaidiot Waltrip, I have a hard time listening to the race. Sure wish those two could find employment elsewhere because I think Jeff Gordon brings a better driver's perspective to the table and Darrel is 18 years removed from the driver's seat. Mikey lucked out having the ride he did at DEI and the wins he got were more luck than skill.
  7. IMO, they were not very accurate and lacked real detail. I think we are overdue a "new" wrecker kit, either a rendition of an old Holmes 440 single line bed or a modern hydraulic wheel lift bed that could be put behind a pickup truck.
  8. The AMT Chevy short bed pickups will fit on the Tahoe chassis to give the appearance of a stock 4x4 pickup. There is no adjusting the suspension height and the detail is all molded in so some careful painting can yield a realistic but simple chassis. As Aaron mentioned, the Escalade suspension can be swapped, might take some adjusting to make it look right. Definitely more realistic looking compared to the Tahoe basic chassis, haven't tried it yet.
  9. Jeff, Pics and pricing would be appreciated, if it's anything like your wrecker bed I am in!
  10. That is the dreams of winning the lottery and deciding to indulge in building the cars you have always wanted!
  11. Yes they were Hugh, I could bounce the rear end like a basketball! Our plow Unimog had a flatbed so we loaded some scrap engines for ballast. The Uni that had the end loader had a factory steel block for ballast, as did our forklift, that weighed about 1,500 lbs., and we did not have a problem with it. I would cut some thick pieces of styrene and give them the rust treatment and stack them in the bed to simulate steel plates. A friend of mine did that with the plow truck pickups we used instead of weighing them down with sand or stone. That spreader that comes with that kit would be more than enough weight for ballast.
  12. Thanks Luc, I do have the El Camino from the Bass Busters kit. I might be willing to trade the El Camino I picked up yesterday, not sure yet.
  13. I picked up a complete Monogram El Camino model yesterday at a swap meet. I haven't compared it to my other Elky kits but it is the odd version with the custom hood and turbo charged motor along with a camper top. It is molded in red and cannot be built stock, but I am sure if I was to try I could find a stock hood and interior. My first new vehicle almost was an 81 El Camino, until the dealer realized I had beaten him down on the price so far he wasn't going to make any money!
  14. If someone is striving for accuracy, then the first issue of the Bronco kit along with a set of rear flares will get them there. I picked up this kit yesterday at a swap meet and later today I will be online ordering my "accessories" from Fireball to customize mine the way I would build it!
  15. That came out real nice and the weathering makes it look that much more realistic. I would suggest some ballast in the rear as in real life these things needed weight in the rear as they were front heavy.
  16. I like your list Casey. Not sure the snowplow is possible, but the other parts mentioned should be doable. Given the recent success of the Revell GMC Pickup Snow Plow kit, I am surprised Round 2 hasn't brought out a kit with that snowplow. I know it is a wish list, but realistically, Round 2 could create some of the items fairly simply and easily but history hasn't been kind to selling some parts packs.
  17. It was a good show, packed in tight as usual! I scored a model from Frank, he was a busy guy for sure! I stopped by a couple of Hobby Lobby's and a Michaels' on the way home, did see a couple of guys that were at this swap meet, still looking for bargains! LOL~
  18. Approach cautiously but definitely inquire with him as to what his wishes are and if he has assigned power of attorney to anyone for handling his affairs. It could be possible that whomever is selling the collection to satisfy his debts and expenses. You didn't mention the level to which he is incapacitated, that could weigh heavily into what is transpiring. Tread carefully until you know the facts and then decide if the authorities need to be involved.
  19. I would buy several, always liked the Commando with the early grille. That snow plow can be had from Olson Bros for about $14.
  20. There was one at the swap meet today in Salisbury NC- big money! There was a vendor who was selling the Mount'n Goat for $29, took a pass.
  21. I wonder if the stock springs from one of the CJ-5 kits would work for the front? They look similar to the ones you have posted here Casey.
  22. Planning on being there, have a couple of bucks to spend, looking for some new kits.
  23. I agree 100% ! It would be nice to see these tooled up with more accurate chassis and drivetrains. It would also be nice to see the variety we have had in the Moebius Fords from the same year range- long bed/short bed, deluxe and stripper trim.
  24. Has anyone heard any updates on when the long awaited Ford F-100 4x4 kit will be out? The box art model was shown but I have not seen any updates on the release date of the kit.
  25. The best way to turn these kits into a 4wd is to use the chassis from the MPC Deserter kit. The inner fenders in the 72 Chevy kit are incorrect and should be cut out. The ones in the Deserter chassis are closer to being correct. A better 2wd chassis can be found in the 64/65/66 Chevy pickups from Revell.
