  1. If it was 1/25 scale, I would buy 12 of them to have in the back of the AMT C600 Stakebed delivery truck........just sayin!
  2. I have yet to buy on eBay and one of the reasons is the shipping charges. Why can Tower Hobbies or Modelroundup ship to me several kits for around $10 and someone I don't know on eBay justify $15 or more for one kit? Tower Hobbies and Modelroundup have a lot more overhead than someone selling out of their basement on eBay but yet they are more reasonable. Yes, there could be some economic advantages of buying shipping materials in bulk but then you have the labor cost and carrying cost versus someone going to the post office and using one of their boxes. I recently sold off nearly 70 model kits to one person. At face value, I got a decent price for my kits but after boxing them up and taking them to the UPS store to ship, it cost me $2 per kit to ship them. I am not complaining, but I can understand how it adds up when shipping is involved and yes, I had an interested party locally that wanted to buy the kits and save me shipping. I also had someone offer to buy the kits and if I had shipped them, would have spent more in shipping than what I would have received for the kits themselves.
  3. Looking good, like the paint colors. Should be a beauty when you finish it.
  4. Looking good, anxious to see this one closer to being done. Awesome scratch building as always!
  5. One of my favorite quotes to use when I see stuff like this!
  6. Which makes one wonder if the kits were sold at a higher or lower price than what they could have ?
  7. Looking good! I had a similar plan in my head for this kit once I get one. Mine might be done in a city fire department color scheme.
  8. The only kit I can remember having the exterior mounted spare tire was the 37 Ford Pickup. It was a green model on the box art as well, possible you have them confused?
  9. Of the three, I would pick the El Camino style design. Seems most practical to build and looks the best to my eye. Surprised Chrysler didn't consider something like that given that GM and Ford had similar style vehicles at the time.
  10. I can't see any faults, just a beautiful rendition of a great model. Nice work, some of us should be lucky enough to build that well!
  11. That should be nice when finished. Are you going to build it stock or is it going to be a custom?
  12. I don't recall that the snowplow was ever in a Revell kit. The only kits I have seen with a snowplow were the old MPC Jeep kits from 1969/70. I'm thinking that maybe someone got their wires crossed with the Jeep kit calling it Ice Patrol. Who knows, maybe we will get a kit with a snowplow and a snowmobile!
  13. I think maybe Revell or Tower Hobbies got things mixed up, don't remember them putting the snowmobile in the Jeep kit, although it could be a ploy to drive sales of a kit (Jeep Honcho) that might not be a big seller otherwise. I have been known to fall for Revell's marketing scams, how else do you explain buying 10 of those GMC pickups with the snowplow????????
  14. The trouble with that snowmobile is that it represents something from the mid 70's and is nothing like a modern machine. Would be nice to see again but if I were to get one it would be weathered and left in a diorama somewhere.
  15. Some good points there Rusty but don't forget one thing- Amazon needs people to pick and pack their orders. While a local business is good to have, a large corporation with many employees making a decent wage is even better. The trouble plaguing many LHS (at least in my experience) is that when it comes time to sell the business, the only option is to go out of business. There aren't that many people waiting to step up and enter the hobby shop biz because of low margins, long hours and competitive pressure. I see the same thing in the auto parts biz, margins have been compressed because of corporate big box stores, internet retailers and the need to be open later and on weekends because that is what the competition is doing. And much like the hobby biz, we go to that local place when we need advice on our cars but head to the corporate retailer for the perceived bargain! Many retailers have been able to flourish while others have been left behind. How can Target stay relevant and thrive while Sears struggles? Did one change with the times while the other wasted money trying to attract customers that had already left and vowed to never come back?
  16. That should be a beauty when you are done, kinda surprised it's lifted and has mudders............................NOT! LOL!
  17. Nice shirt, but that model bench is even nicer! Way too organized and neat for me, I would probably get some of my WIPS finished if I spent the time to organize my workbench!
  18. Yeah Bill, I started getting a more realistic view of model buying when I was out of work in December 2015, but I found myself buying kits at Ollie's and the clearance section at Hobby Lobby thinking it wasn't as bad because I was buying them "cheaper". The reality is that with all of the WIPs and selected models that I am holding on to, I still have too many!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am going to go through some of my OOP kits and ask myself the hard question of "Are you really going to build that?" and probably get rid of the ones that I won't be building.
  19. This is so true, all one has to do is watch one of the business channels on TV or read a newspaper to see/hear about the latest old line retailer closing or cutting back on the number of stores. My kids probably can't tell you the last time they went to the mall but probably know their Amazon Prime membership number better than their social security number! We aren't hearing about the post office having financial problems since they started delivering for Amazon and while I haven't become an Amazon member or user, I do a fair amount of online shopping mostly due to being able to find what I want. I will buy models locally if I can, but do find myself at Modelroundup or Tower Hobbies more often than at a local store.
  20. Thanks for sharing Tim, I have always wanted to go to this show and it is on my bucket list. Seeing all of those 60's and 70's pickup trucks makes me wonder if or when someone will bring us some more building options? The news from Moebius is encouraging, but it would be really nice if we had an all new 67-72 tool of the GM and Dodge pickups, much like we have with the Fords of the same era. It would be a great day in the model world if we had 2 & 4 WD, short bed/long bed kits to build of GM and Dodge vehicles!
  21. Sorry to hear the news about a hobby shop closing but I am afraid the trend will continue. The costs to keep a store open have got to be getting out of hand for small operators, especially when a big chain like Michaels or Hobby Lobby can get better terms and discounts and therefore be more competitively priced. I agree that the personal service is what makes a LHS the place to go but here in the Charlotte area I have seen them dry up to the point where we only have one left and they seem to be barely hanging on.
  22. These pictures were from 2 months ago, any chance you have completed it Steve? Would love to see this one in finished form! Also hoping someone sees fit to create a lift kit and/or 3/4 or 1 ton conversion to make a heavy duty version of this great kit!
  23. Just an update, I have found a buyer ( not the local guy) who offered me a very reasonable price for the whole lot. While I could have waited 6 weeks until the next model show around here and MAYBE made as much, I am accomplishing a much needed task more easily and cleanly. Going forward, I will be really thinking through any model kit purchase as I realized buying up that many kits only to never even opening most of them was foolish and costly. I will only buy what I will truly build and not have kits for the sake of having kits.
  24. Looking very nice, that paint and decals are perfect, wish I could perfect the application of those tricky decals.
