  1. I sincerely appreciate everything Don and Carol have done for our hobby but I highly doubt anyone will step up and buy the business. I spoke with Don two weeks ago and he sounded tired and ready for retirement, not sure he has it in him to teach someone the business if they were to sell it. At this point the best we can hope for is someone picks up part of their offering and continues the legacy.
  2. Why? As stated by many here, there are a ton out there. Kinda like the speculators who pushed a bunch of Dale Earnhardt stuff after he died when in fact there was Dale stuff everywhere for years after his death!
  3. Not real encouraging and I suspect that if it does come to be, places like Hobby Lobby will be the only place to buy a kit with the 40% off coupon being one way to ease the pain. It will have me re-thinking impulse purchases of Revell kits for parts, that is for sure. I have no problem paying a bit more for a kit that is all new tooling but for something that has been around for 25 years (like a '69 Camaro), I think they will see some push back by the hobby. I could see raising prices to cover their costs if there was a huge cost to purchase the Revell line, but we all know they got a relative bargain. It will be interesting to see what Round 2 and Moebius do with their kit pricing.
  4. Between this thread and the one on Hobbico going bankrupt, one would think we are in dire straits with a bleak future for our hobby. I see some great things happening- resin casters using 3D printers to cast more accurate masters and giving us some awesome resin parts being a big one-and feel like it is a good time to be a modeler. Like most on here, I have plenty of models to last me two lifetimes so if there aren't any more new kits I am good to go. Whether we get new kits, Revell ships from Germany or China, Round 2 continues to spit out re-issues or not or if Moebius thrives with new owners, we should all focus on building kits.
  5. Don't sound the alarm just yet, nothing has been announced regarding distributing Revell products in the US. Good chances they will have a warehouse or some form of distribution here in the US, makes financial sense to do so.
  6. But don't let that stop a few here from speculating about they think will happen.
  7. Pegasus offers many wheels and tires in 19 inch, check them out.
  8. Looks great, like the color choices and it does look better with the rear end lifted. Do you have any WIP pictures of the work done to convert it into the panel sides?
  9. I like it, the wide whites are perfect and nice color choice.
  10. I have a couple of his resin kits and they are very nice. As others have said, he sold off the paint business and concentrates on resin kits. Order without worry, he produces some nice resin kits.
  11. Last year Marcus Smith approached Charlotte city leaders asking for the moon and stars (I wonder where he learned that tactic?) to build him a stadium for a Major League Soccer team and had yet to be awarded a franchise. The city asked a bunch of questions, mainly about his investment portion and when it was disclosed he didn't have much skin in the game, they decided it wasn't worth the risk. There were many who felt we (Charlotte taxpayers) missed out on a great opportunity to become a "World Class" city by not having a MLS team but after getting held up for upgrades to the football stadium and arena where the NBA team play, many of us let it be known that we were tired of paying for sports facilities for millionaires. If the Smith family were to buy NASCAR, I could see them trying to strong arm communities for track upgrades and tax breaks. Ironically enough, in today's Charlotte newspaper it was reported that the Smith family of racetracks (Speedway Motorsports Inc, a publicly traded company) reported a 7.4% DECLINE in revenue, so if they were to pursue NASCAR, rest assured that the France family is aware the numbers are working against them. Whatever the outcome, the reality is that NASCAR racing has definitely changed and whomever assumes control will have to find a way to make it relevant again if they want to see it return to the popularity it once held.
  12. Wrong thread, but I like the way you are thinking!
  13. Yeah, and then we can get all new tool NASCAR model car kits! Watching Sunday's race and seeing all the empty seats, I figured this day would come as it has to be hard to convince a track owner to upgrade his facility to only see fewer fans show up every year. Last year I had a bunch of tickets to race week here in Charlotte (All Star Race thru Coke 600) and could not give them away. People have moved on to other entertainment, even TV ratings are down, because it's become the same old, same old.
  14. VERY NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICE! Great details, execution and that paint is beautiful.
  15. Nice job, looks clean and well detailed.
  16. Well, tomorrow is the big day, anyone have some inside scoop what the new company will announce? Let's start speculating now.......................
  17. I have seen it as well, get my chuckles and move on. I also see on Facebook people asking stoopid prices for kits, like a 66 Suburban for $30 + shipping! Really? That kit can be had for less money at online retailers with a reasonable ship fee to boot! If you have a Hobby Lobby nearby or even online, you can get 40% off of the $29.95 MSRP.
  18. Scenes Unlimited is a great source of wheels and tires, although you would have to chrome the wheels. Replicas and Miniatures of Maryland also has some nice wheels.
  19. coming along nicely, I am liking the way this is turning out.
  20. I am in the process of re-doing my work area and trying to get it better organized. I will try to upload pictures when I get it done. To date I use model boxes, some clear totes from Big Lots that are shoe box sized, a couple of 4 drawer plastic rolling organizers that hold resin parts and kits, tires and wheels. I use a silverware drawer organizer turned sideways to store my bottled paint.
  21. Impressive, the only word that comes to mind to describe your project. Love the old Mack!
  22. I believe the gas tank would be located in the usual position, likely on the frame with a filler neck coming up under the dump bed. Some internet searches should give you an idea of where to locate the tank and filler neck. The exhaust could be either a short run with a muffler ending just past the cab or a full exhaust ending after the tires, similar to a stock pickup exhaust. Internet searches will probably yield a bunch of different images and it's really up to you as to how you want to run it. It does look better with the rear axle set back a bit, have you thought about mud flaps?
  23. I sent an inquiry to Don and Carol the other day about my order and got a nice, detailed response back from Carol asking for my credit card information as it has been deleted from their file. I called and actually got to speak to Don and he sounded tired and ready for retirement, which he is forecasting for this June. My order is from July 5 2016 and is scheduled to be put into production next week and shipped by the end of May. I wished him well and thanked him for all that they have done for our hobby and he was very humble about it all. If you haven't contacted them with your information, be sure to so they can finally retire and relax.
  24. Are you sure? I could have sworn it was Tuesday Oct. 23rd, 1956 at high noon!
