Can't recall exactly the first time because I'm old and it was a long time ago. Had to be around 1970 and I was 12 or 13. Saw them at Portland and later at Seattle for those 32 and 64 Funny Car meets so no one driver in particular. The term "ground pounding" was what I felt and was close enough to them that my chest would feel the air impact when they'd blip the throttle. Walking down to the finish line and hearing the engine at full song, I thought they should blow up. A related story which is a favorite memory for me is when we went to Seattle when my son was maybe 10 years old. My wife had my son in front of her and we were waiting for a Top Fuel car to start up in their pit. My son looked up and asked if they started it yet. LOL Told him you'll know when they start it! Started it and blipped the throttle a couple of times and I looked around and my son and wife had left the area.

This sentence was a laugh for me. ?

ROVER BRM Le Mans 1963
TonyK replied to Giovanni La Rosa's topic in Other Racing: Road Racing, Salt Flat Racers
I enjoy seeing these "different" looking race cars from the past. Very nice job on this model! -
I'd never seen that Hot Rod Celica model before. Wonder how much the actual kit resembles the box art. Had a '77 Celica like that and it was a lot of fun to drive. Handled great.

Issue #222 was in my mailbox today!

I've had good experiences dealing with Japan model suppliers also. And was surprised at how fast I'd get my orders as you said.

Carsini Wineries stake truck

Excellent! -
Is there some kind of investigating you can do to find out what happened? I realize dealing with postal delivery is probably a waste of time but as you pointed out "this issue was atrocious". Or did something change with the printer or sending process? You'd hate to have a repeat of this kind with the next issue. ?

Haven't got my copy of Model Car Magazine #222 and haven't got the replacement copy either. That's what irks me today and each day it doesn't show up. I get Motorsport magazine all the way from the UK on a regular basis so the USPS can deliver when they want to.

Also was a main character on "Here Come the Brides" back in 1968. I remember that show because my sister was quite the Bobby Sherman fan who was on it. -
Fun build Lindberg 1/12 scale Topolino Dragster
TonyK replied to louis Carabott's topic in Drag Racing
Very nice looking model and a lot of nice detail! I remember seeing this kit many years ago and thought 1/12th scale was just too big to build. -
Saw this the other day. He had some good looking paint schemes on his cars. We've lost 3 big stars in the racing world in just a couple of days. Enough.

Always liked him. Tough, no nonsense guy.

1950 Ford Fire Truck

Amazing! I'm glad you told us what all was scratch-made but I still don't know how you did it. Your talent is outstanding! Such a great model! -

You did a great job on this model! The dirty look is perfect! -
So sad to read this today but Gil de Ferran died at 56 from a heart attack. Way too young for this to happen and I feel bad for his family. I was a big fan of his and he seemed like such a nice, easy going guy.

I've read 2 reviews and they were mixed. They both confused me a bit but I did understand the Hollywood influence which I'm guessing the driver being cut in half is supposed to jolt the audience. I don't need that. Thanks for the review.

I remember seeing those somewhere before but saw they were HO scale so didn't give it another thought since it's too small for 1/25th models. They do look great though.

Still no Model Car issue #222. Two emails requesting a replacement but have no idea if they've been received and done. If they have, the mail service is not doing their job!

Why is my clear coat coming out textured?
TonyK replied to Milo's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I suck at painting so I stick with good paint such as Tamiya because it makes up for my lack of skill. Testors usually works well for me but I'm not building custom cars or showroom cars so that's good enough. I do use the cheaper paints such as Rustoleum or Krylon, etc. but only for chassis and interiors. -
Sounds like you're stuck in Hallmark-ville.

I got one of those Kobalt mini toolboxes for Christmas from my son and family. Will fit nicely on my model work bench.
