Mindhunters--A '70s Car Treasure Trove!
Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think that magged wagon was in ep 1. Parked on the street. It's the one that got me starting to notice the cars. I think the '68 Bonneville 2-door was in the same scene. I agree that season 2 is sometime in the '80s. Blondie's "Call Me" was one of the soundtrack songs--that was 1980, right? (I'm up to ep 3 now, I think.) I realized it gets even weirder. The VW van in the first part of the show is in Kansas, and the '62 Pontiac later in the episode is in Altoona, PA! -

Here's a survivor (original issue of the kit, I believe) that I pieced together from a box of model junk I found at a flea market. (It turned out to have the major parts of no less than 14 models.) I disassembled it, cleaned it up as best I could, polished out the body, and put it back together. Only thing I changed was the tires; everything else is original. -
Got the Welly Aston-Martin DB9 ($10 at Rite-Aid).

Monthly local toy show. Got a complete, clean "Masterpiece" issue AMT '71 Charger (built and painted, just needs some minor Snake-Fu), a dirty '94 Mustang promo that should clean up nicely, and a fairly cleanly built '67 GTO that should make a great addition to my mythical Retrobates car club of the late '70s/early '80s with a couple hours of Snake-Fu rescue work. Then stopped at the last Rite-Aid in my area and got a $10 Welly Aston-Martin DB9. They had a Lotus Elan I'd never seen before, but it was missing the right-side window and door inner panel, and it looked small for 1/24. Could have had it for $5 (buy one, get one half off), but I wasn't crazy about the color, either (light blue), so left it. Maybe next time they'll have a red one or some other color.

1121 is still around but they now call it a brown. 1123 is long OOP. Chances are slim on finding any, unless someone here just happens to have some, or it turns up on eBay or something. You might be able to mix up a green that will be a close enough match for touchup. Good luck with it.

See the color chart in this thread: Not sure they ever had a dark green in a spray. You sure it wasn't Pactra?

Just saw him the other day in A Bridge Too Far. "Three days, they said! We've been here nine!"

If you're doing a true restoration, why not do it in the sharp silver and black "Time Machine" scheme? I'm doing one that way. I have a complete set of decals that I've scanned and will be sending to another member to make me a couple sets of copies. If you want, I can ask him to do one for you, too.

Mindhunters--A '70s Car Treasure Trove!
Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Toward the end of the episode, the same VW van and '62 Pontiac show up in another part of town---parked next to each other far, far down the street. -
Very nice indeed! Well done and model on!

Mindhunters--A '70s Car Treasure Trove!

I spoke too soon--the very beginning of episode 5 has a mid-'60s Chevy pickup, a '65 Ford sedan, and a VW van in the background (among a bunch of perfect, clean '70s American cars, of course). ETA: And, later in the episode, a first-gen Corvair and a '62 Pontiac. -
Just started watching Mindhunters on Netflix. Up to ep 4 so far. It's set starting in 1977 and it's a treasure trove of '70s "mainstreamer" cars--there must be dozens of them in every episode! Fullsize, midsize and compact GMs, Fords, Mopars, even AMCs. I haven't spotted an '80s car yet. Most of the cars seem to be 4-doors, a few 2-doors, a few pickups and a very few wagons. I think they almost did TOO good a job of "set dressing." Every car seems to be perfect--no damage, no dents, no dings, not even any dirt. Some cars are conspicuous by their absence. There's almost nothing earlier than the '70s on the roads. Hey, I was there, and there were still a lot of '60s cars on the streets then. Also, so far, no Camaros, no Firebirds/Trans Ams, no Cudas or Challengers, no Corvettes, and I've only seen one Mustang II. So far only two Pintos, one a wagon, the other figures in a crash scene. No Vegas or Monzas. No VW Beetles or any other foreign car that I've seen so far--and by the late '70s, there were quite a few Toyotas and Datsuns on American streets. I had no idea there were so many nice '70s 4-door cars still around available for filming. If you dig '70s American mainstream iron, you'll love this show!

Any airplanes this time around? -
Very nice! One of my alltime favorite kits. I never knew the Mexicali Mudlark kit was a curbside, Well done and model on!

Just started it this morning. Shows promise, looks pretty good. They seem to have the cars right (for late '70s). Among other things I saw in the first episode were a '68 Pontiac Bonneville and an early/mid-'70s Impala/Caprice wagon--with mags no less, possibly Cragars!
-
On which one, the Mustang or the '57 Chevy? I noticed that the rear tires on the Chevy weren't as large as I'd have liked, but otherwise didn't notice anything unusual.

Can't think of a better use for a warped model. Ya done good! Model on!

Very clean build, very sharp work! Very well done and model on!

No alcohol at Walmart this morning--they had plenty just a couple weeks ago. Plenty of paper towels on hand, too.

If you want a model of this car on your shelf but can't find the Monogram kit, or don't have the time to build one, Motor Max has a rather nice diecast in 1/24 that's very reasonably priced. I've seen them in yellow, orange (like this one, though it looks red in these pics), and I think green. Mine is proudly holding down the slot on my shelf until I can get around to building the kit.

Walmart had a couple new things today. Yet another M2 '65-'66 Mustang 2+2 variant, this one a stock '65 in Poppy Red with the styled steel wheels. If you've been looking for the now semi-rare old Monogram kit that hasn't been reissued in decades, this might work nicely for you. (I already have three M2 Mustangs so don't really need another one.) Also, M2 '57 Chevy 210 hardtop in black with Marvel Mystery Oil graphics on it. Front mag wheels, open rears. A couple of us have already reviewed this fairly nice model. If I didn't already have a plain black one, I'd have grabbed it.

I like where you're going with this. Drive on!
