  1. Yeah, it was a high-temp coating. Not sure when they first appeared, or when they went out of style, but I know they were pretty much standard--at least in all the car magazines--in the late '60s and early '70s.
  2. I wish that Spitfire were available in 1/24.
  3. Kinda looks like what cartoons Kass and Bernie drive as a shop truck. I'd call it "El Daytono."
  4. Very nice! One of your best efforts yet! I think you've got the Hurst T-handle shifter in backwards, or sideways, or something, but otherwise, Well Done and model on!
  5. This round closes the last day of September. Which reminds me, time for an update and to add '70 Grande to the list: ROUND 4: FINISH DATE SEPTEMBER 30 2019 Prostreeter69: Pro Street Bronco Bobthehobbyguy: ’32 Ford 5-window Dave Branson: '70 Trans Am Tom Geiger: '50 Ford Truck, 57 Nomad SamIAm: '56 Chevy NAFAW9: HO scale Freightliner #1 Model Citizen: '49 Ford Tudor Disconovaman: '69 Chevelle Straightliner59: '93 Firebird Snake45: '69 Camaro, '65-'66 Vette 70 Grande: '67 GTO GITTER DONE!
  6. I don't think there were 1960 Impala 2-door wagons, though I believe there were 1960 Chevy 2-door Sedan Deliveries. Although the B-pillars wouldn't have been angled light the SF, they would have been vertical--just another annoying "customized" feature of this kit.
  7. I built one 7 or 8 years ago. Guy commissioned me to build a model of his real 56 Bel Air 2DS for a nice price. Was gonna start with a Revell Del Ray but before I could find one, he scored the Mono HT at a flea market for $5 or something and wanted me to use that instead. Well, okay. I reshaped the side window openings as best I could and added the door/window posts and got it to look kinda sorta like a Bel Air 2DS. Since he had a set of wheels/tires he sometimes ran with stock wheel covers, he told me to go ahead and use the ones from the kit. He seemed to be pleased with the final result. Someday I need to do a full Under Glass post on this one.
  8. Different and therefore interesting! Well done and model on!
  9. Looks very good, and thanks for your thorough writeup of your problems and modifications. Very informative! Well done and model on!
  10. This is why I am NEVER without a book, or at least 3 or 4 magazines I haven't yet read. And a full pack of smokes.
  11. Me neither, but restorable builtups can be quite reasonable. I've managed to score several in the $30-$45 range, which isn't bad at all considering what common new kits sell for. The Revell Corvettes and the oft-reissued AMT '63s help keep the prices of originals down somewhat. If those didn't exist, it's hard to imagine what original AMT C2 Vettes would sell for in ANY condition!
  12. Looks sharp! Drive on!
  13. Yesterday I saw a late (2018 or 19) Corvette, metallic/pearl orange with wide black stripes and lots of black trim. It looked like something Batman would drive in the Halloween Parade. Cool!
  14. Where is Vamach1 when you need him?
  15. You have just insulted all '60s Rivieras everywhere. This one is a 70s-something! (I'm surprised the builder forgot the G. Barris Fake Pimp Side Exhausts, which would have really MADE the backbirth!)
  16. I used them on a Revell snapper. Actually, I had to use TWO sets of the AMT decals, carefully cutting and pasting them to get the right widths and lengths and proportions. So I wouldn't have any great hopes for them.
  17. The Welly diecast is quite nice and is true 1/25. It's available in both white and Lucerne Blue. If you get lucky, you can find them at Rite-Aid for $10.
  18. The front fenders are mis-shaped--bloated and fat looking. Ruins the look of the whole car. This is only on the roadster, the coupe is fine, as are both of the '63 Snappers.
  19. Here's one that's in the pile to be restored. Note that the gas caps, rocker panels, and seat upholstery are different among the five years of C2s. The major visual change is the front fender vents, of course, but the other detail differences are there too. It all depends on how far you want to go on accuracy.
  20. Oh, my! Is that what you're trying to do? Build a '66 roadster from the Revell '67 roadster kit? With parts from their 1/24 '65? Len, I have too much respect for your skill as a modeler to encourage you to go down that road. You'll have a LOT of work in producing a very inferior model. First off, the front fender vents in the Monogram 1/24 '65 Vette are too big to look right in any 1/25 body. I know, I investigated this myself. Second, the Revell '67 Vette roadster body is awful. The whole front end is wrong and needs major and skillful reshaping to look right. (I've done that, too, and I'll never do it again.) This problem is limited to their '67 roadster. The corrected the shapes on the Coupe body, and on the '63 Coupe and Roadster snappers. Those bodies are all good, and about as accurate Sting Ray bodies as you can get in any scale. The Monogram '65 Vette seats can't be used for an accurate '66 roadster. Different upholstery patterns. The rocker panels are different for the three years, and the body emblems are different between '65 and '66-67--and you'll need that emblem for the hood of a '66, too (which no other year of C2 had), so that's another problem to solve. If you want to build a decent '66 roadster, your best bet is to haunt eBay for a restorable AMT '66 annual. They're out there; I've bought several at reasonable prices. Just scored one a couple months ago. The AMT body isn't as accurate as the good Revells, but it's better than the Revell '67 roadster and doesn't look bad. Another way to do it would be start with an unrestorable AMT '65 or '66 Vette and then use its fender vents and hood on a Revell body--either the snapper '63 roadster, or start with the Revell '67 coupe, cut off the top, and graft in the rear deck area from their '67 roadster (which you apparently already have--if you don't already have one, I recently bought two of them cheap just for the chassis, engines, and other random parts and I'd be glad to send you a body for a rear deck donor to convert a Coupe body). I've got a LOT of research in C2 Vettes and the kits of them and would be happy to help you with this project any way I can. Drop me an email at SnakeACP45 at aol dot com. There are several paths to the top of the mountain of building a GOOD 1/25 '66 Corvette roadster model. Let me help you find one, my friend.
  21. Not if the glue has eaten INTO the glass, it won't. If it's just on the surface, yes, but usually old tube glue has corrupted the styrene to a depth of at least 1/4 through, or more.
  22. It's like you're reading my mind!
  23. My takeaway would have been that not all criticisms are valid.
  24. Well, I tried to help keep it in the rod section. Glad I was able to see it before it got kicked downstairs here--I'd have missed it. (I minimize the truck section and never look at it.) My condolences.
