Sealing yellow plastic?
Snake45 replied to Seann Anderson's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Unless you're painting the model white or another VERY light color, don't worry about it. -
I've said for years that the problem with this company is that everyone wants to make UAW wages for their work, but pay Walmart prices for everybody else's work.

Didn't VW go to a smaller, metal sunroof a few years before 1968? I'm thinking somewhere around 1964....

A semi-period correct 1948 Ford Gasser...(UPDATED w/parts list)
Snake45 replied to tim boyd's topic in Drag Racing
I'm by no means any kind of '48 Ford fan, but I actually kind of like this one. Well done and model on! -

Street Outlaws America's List, Season 2
Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It almost HAS to better than their last two spinoff shows, the Vegas one and Gone Girls. I watched them both but they were pretty bad. -
Truly one of the most beautiful songs of the hippie era. A favorite of mine to this day. (Another: Donovan's "Catch the Wind.") ETA: I'd never seen this video before. In some of the scenes, Melanie bears a certain resemblance to Linda Ronstadt.

Preach it, Brother Keyser! Can I get a AY-men from the choir?
-
I like how you used a different, darker yellow on the engine, just like the real one. Well done and model on!

Baldwin was a Chevy dealer; Motion was a speed shop/tuner that would work on anything. I know they did Pontiacs and am pretty sure they did some Mopars. BTW, nice model, you really captured the look and "feel" of these things. I have to find one of these kits sometime. Well done and model on!

Build a time machine, go back to the '70s and buy up all the Pactra Flat Aluminum you can find. It was wonderful stuff and I mourn its passing every day. I have a spray can of a Krylon "matte" finish that will produce a flat, white-ish finish if applied wet over chrome. Unfortunately the effect/finish isn't uniform enough to use on anything I've discovered. (I mist it on in several very light coats on interior parts.)

FINALLY received my replacement credit card in the mail. Validated it and then updated my payment information for AOL, eBay, and the airgun vendor where I have a pending order. Should probably do Amazon, too, while I'm thinking of it. There will be others to do as time goes on, I'm sure.

Yup, there it is. Clearly NOT the same top to bottom and the way Revell molded it just looks WRONG.
-
About as nice a build of that kit as I've ever seen. Well done and model on!
-
That's an absolutely magnificent model whose appearance is ruined by that inaccurate grille (Revell's fault, not yours). BTW, are you SURE you didn't install it upside down?
-
It's symmetrical top to bottom. The real Camaro grilles are wider at the top and "tuck in" a bit at the bottom. If you're a true First-Gen Camaro fan, this inaccuracy is a real poke in the eye.

Street Outlaws America's List, Season 2
Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well it's all over and the Top 3 shouldn't be any real surprise. And all three richly deserve to be there, especially of course JJ. It was quite heartening to see Tricia put in appearance. She seems to be well respected--even loved--in the group. One has to wonder how far she could have gone if not for the accident. Remember that JJ used her engine and torque converter to attain the #1 slot. All in all, a very entertaining and satisfying season! Well done, all! -
I had a similar "adventure." Last week I found out my CC had been hacked, and several hundred dollars of charges run up. The CC company removed the fraud charges immediately (their Fraud department contacted me about them in the first place) and told me they'd send me a new card in "7 to 10 days." (I'm still waiting.) Last night out of curiosity I logged into my CC website and found that the new number has been assigned (but I can only see the last four digits of it). But I noticed that a balance of @$60 had been transferred from the old account. oh heaven's to Betsy!? Researched it further and discovered that I was billed for Amazon Prime for the last four months. I've never belonged to Amazon Prime. So this morning I got the AP customer service number and called them. Found out "I" had multiple Amazon accounts, my real one and at least two others. The helpful agent tracked the bad charges to one of the others, cancelled that account, and promised to refund the money of all four charges. It was all surprisingly quick and easy--maybe 15 minutes total, which I considered amazing, all things considered.

My Dad has Alzheimer's, and he's forgotten where I live.
Snake45 replied to stavanzer's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
My Mom died of Alzheimer's in 2015. She'd been slipping downhill for several years. My Dad took care of her as long as he could, but finally it was too much of a burden on him and he had to put her in a facility for the last three months of her life. I visited her at least once a week and every week I left thinking "I wish she were as good as she was last week." I'm not sure she knew who I was the last two or three visits. I feel your pain. It ain't easy. -
Modelhaus used to have a repro of the original AMT '67 annual, but of course they're long gone. At least one outfit is repopping the grille from the MPC '68, but it's only accurate on the right side. The grille from the recent Revell kit isn't accurate either.
-
Great project! I'm planning to build this car someday, too. I think the JoHan '71 body is more accurate in shape than the Revell '71, so I'm planning to convert a JoHan body with '70 Revell parts, and then build up the chassis etc. with the best of the parts from the two kits. I have the Slixx decals for it, too. I'll be watching your build with interest. Drive on!

Update: I bought some carb cleaner/gas treatment and put some in the gas tank and let it run for about 10 minutes. (It started right up, surprisingly.) Then filled it up and proceeded to mow the lawn. It seemed to run normally, or darn close to it. Oh, I also blew out the vent hole on the gas cap. Not sure which thing worked, but something seems to have.
-
And once again you can thank me for this. Two years ago I paid a pretty penny for this on eBay just to get the SR tonneau cover. Come to think of it, I probably didn't pay much if any more than the MSRP of the new kit by the time it actually becomes available....

At this month's toy show, one of my favorite vendors had an AM radio version of the '65 Olds I'd never seen before. Asking price was $80, which I didn't think was outrageous, and I'm sure he'd have knocked $10 or more off for me. But it had one broken/missing A-pillar, which was pretty much a deal-killer for me. (I'd have had to think about it for $20, though, or even $30.)
