Same here. The gas price isn't going to kill me but its effect on the price of EVERYTHING else is. Last time I filled up, a couple weeks ago, the price was $3.45/gallon. Sunday, when I went to get the paper, it was $4.09. Didn't top off and was almost immediately sorry. Yesterday (Tuesday) after I heard the latest news I went back and topped off and was surprised it was still $4.09. Today it was $4.19. The sad part is, there doesn't seem to be an end in sight.

C-17. My son drives 'em. I think he has one in Alaska right now.

Very most way extremely nice! Superb color and finish! VERY well done and model on!

I suspect that most of us here have a lifetime supply of kits in our stashes already...although, of course, that's not NEARLY enough....

Personally I prefer the '66 and '67 Rivs to any and all that came later. By coincidence, even as we speak, I'm working on an original AMT annual '66 Riv and am upgrading a '67 promo/friction car.

Moebius 1964 Nova SS - first detailed look inside the box...
Snake45 replied to tim boyd's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Very cool pics, thanks! I think that tab on the AMT hood is for the C-clip, very common back in the day. I have another AMT '62 to build, a glue bomb former custom. Had some tricky glue damage from the fender skirts to repair but I think I've finally got that sorted out. It'll be a mid-'60s "high school hot rod" with a 6-banger, probably Moon hubcaps. I was hoping to have it done before the Moebius kits appeared, too, but didn't quite gitter done. Oh, BTW, for those who liked my orange '62 above, I now have it posted Under Glass: -
The old AMT '69 Riviera has been reissued many times and isn't hard to find at all. It's not as well detailed as your newer '66 kit, but it's almost identical in body shape to your beloved '70.

Moebius 1964 Nova SS - first detailed look inside the box...
Snake45 replied to tim boyd's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I too noticed the difference in shape of the front wheel opening, but wasn't saying anything yet. But since you brought it up, looks like AMT got this shape right, and Moebius isn't quite as accurate. -
Moebius 1964 Nova SS - first detailed look inside the box...
Snake45 replied to tim boyd's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
The window opening on the AMT is about .508-.510". The window opening on the Moebius is right around .500", measuring to the underside of the drip rail, disregarding the slight ledge underneath. Also note in the above picture that the Moebius C-pillar is visibly wider front-to back than the AMT. I need to look at a bunch of pics of real ones to see which one looks closer. It's not a deal-breaker, but something I'll correct if it turns out to need it. ETA: Here's the best profile shot I could find of a real '64 HT. Whose C-pillars look closest to you, AMT's or Moebius's? -
Very cool--I like it! Well done and model on!

Not a fan of convertibles, but hey, if you've got a smashed top, sometimes you just gotta make lemonade. Well done and model on!

Won't chew up the bandwidth with yet MORE pics of the boxes, but I finally got my Moebius '64 and '65 Novas today. Happy Happy Joy Joy!

I was able to get both cars topped off before today's gas price hike came through.

Very nice, very clean! Great color and finish, too. Well done and model on!

Very cool! I always thought the GG was among the very best looking biplanes ever. I have the old Pyro kit of it that I need to build someday. Drive on! -
Still some stuff I want to do to the chassis and interior (and it needs an engine), but I'm calling this one “Done” so I can post it before dozens of nice Moebius '64s and '65s start showing up. To recap from the build thread, this started as a bare '62 body shell, painted Testor Orange and covered with vintage decals, from eBay, and a “project” '63 convertible I bought at the local toy show. I don't care for convertibles so I swapped in the '62 HT body. The project '63's hood turned out to be unusable, so I had to scrounge up another one. Most of the rest of the parts came from the project '63 convertible, others as listed below Body: AMT '62, painted Testor Orange, from ebay Hood, glass: eBay “Nova junkyard” (probably from AMT '65 AWB funnycar) Grille/front bumper, taillights: Resin repros from “project” '63 Nova convertible Chassis, rear bumper: '63 Nova convertible Interior tub, dashboard: Resin repros, possibly '64s, from “project” '63 Nova convertible Steering wheel: AMT '63 Corvette Front wheels/tires: AMT Opel GT glue bomb Rear wheels/tires: Snakepit parts bin “Grumpy Lump” hood bulge: MPC '70s Vega, provided by ExoticsBuilder. ...Hence the name “FrankeNova.” I'd have never painted an early Nova orange, but the paint seemed in such nice shape (considering it was applied more than half a century ago) that I decided to try to save it if possible. I only polished it in areas where the decals left some residue, the rest is just as it came out of the rattlecan so many years ago. Removing those Maltese Cross decals damaged the paint on both lower quarters, so I had to repaint those (airbrushed Testor “little bottle” orange). The paint on the right side door and lower right body was very thin, so I touched up those areas, too, as well as the dirty areas (from handling) of the roof right over the doors. Of course I had to paint the hood, too. Overall, somewhere between 60 and 70 percent of the orange paint is original, the rest new. It all matched up amazingly well, all things considered. The body side trim, rocker panels, and rear emblem are foil; the rest of the trim is Silver Sharpie. Front bumper/grille are Krylon Foil (rear bumper is original plating). Interior was painted Krylon Satin Pebble, closest I could find to '62 Chevy “Fawn.” Between the orange paint (a non-factory color) and the hood with the hole in it, the building style was somewhat limited, so I went for a late-'60s/early '70s street racer and Modified Production-legal dragster. It'll eventually get a SBC engine with 2x4s on a tunnel ram, most likely. I wanted the model to look like it had been originally built in the mid to late '60s by a somewhat skilled teenager (which I was at the time), and then rescued/restored today by a somewhat more skilled adult (which I am now). It actually does fit in nicely with some of the “street fighters” I built around 1968-69. So that's FrankeNova, a build that presented its share of challenges but was a lot of fun, and truth to tell, I'm pretty proud of it. (And I beat the Moebiuses on the board!) Thanks for looking, and as always, comments welcome. (And thanks again to ExoticsBuilder!)

You might be right. The front fender emblems seem to be 350s. Still pretty cool. I've now filled the glue-damage pits and "dents" with superglue and am waiting for it to cure.

With only about a week before deadline, I guess I'd better get started on my '66 Riv. Here's what I'm starting with. Actually I'm only going to use the bare body out of this rather nice unbuilt kit; planning to piece the rest of it together from a glue bomb and my original Riv. While I'm at it, gonna try to do something with this original '67 friction promo. The windshield is cracked and the chassis is a mess; seems to have a too-short wheelbase and two different types of Chevy SS wheel covers, WTH? The roof has some scratches and scuffing but otherwise the body is in nice shape and pretty shiny. I'll be putting it on the chassis/wheels/tires from a common reissued '69 Riv, which will also donate the replacement glass.
-
And here it is. Not bad, right? Missing rear bumper but I can steal that from a common '70 reissue. The Keystone wheels are cool and I'll probably keep them, but put larger tires on the rear. For color, I'm thinking either Testor One-Coat Bronze, or Krylon Shimmer Green, which is VERY close to '72 Chevy Spring Green but much flakier (think "bass boat"). It came apart without drama except for two areas: The glass almost didn't come out without breaking it, but I eventually gotter done. And the rear spoiler was REALLY glued on there; I ended up pretty much wrecking it getting it off (I'd have left it on but it wasn't centered at all, which just wouldn't do), and there's some glue damage on the rear deck. There's also some very minor glue-warping in the roof from the glass glue, but nothing that can't be fixed with a little putty. Kinda in the mood to go ahead and Snake-slap this one together, we'll see what happens....

Local toy show. Scored a fairly cleanly built, never painted original AMT '72 Camaro SS at a reasonable price. Less exciting now than it would have been two or three years ago, before Round 2 released the new non-RS Camaro kit, but still pretty cool. Trying to decide what color to paint it. Or, if it's actually clean enough, I might just polish up the white plastic.
