  1. Thanks! It's just the molded plastic, polished. In real life it's a little darker, a little bluer, a little less "John Deere Green" looking.
  2. I've seen a lot of his models on eBay. Even bought a couple. From now on these "everything AND the kitchen sink" models will be known as "Grandma models."
  3. A few AMT kits around 1965 or '66 had white styrene "overlays" for the Firestone Supreme tires to make them a little wider, or at least look a little wider.
  4. Didn't know Welly did one. Have to keep my eyes open for a cheap one. Summer of '69, my Dad had to go to Europe on bidness for a few months. His company let him take Mom with him, but not me. I spent the summer with Grandma and Papa. When they got home, Mom told me, "I saw my next new car there--a Lamber-skini Murra!" I knew exactly what she meant.
  5. Or maybe "BGR BOT."
  6. That's typically airbrushed over a whole model.
  7. Pretty much exactly what I was going to say. If you don't have any clear film showing, you should be good. Clear film, no good. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and take the three steps.
  8. More progress. Interior is finished except for a shifter which I'll add later. Glass is polished out. All foil is on, and all Silver Sharpie trim; still need to do some small stuff old-school with silver paint. Still need to make the traction bars, and do a lot of touchup of the nearly 60-year-old orange paint. Special thanks to ExoticsBuilder, who graciously donated the "Grumpy lump" from his vintage MPC Vega (I still need to fill in the front end of it). I think I've got the "sit" pretty much where I want it. Comments welcome.
  9. Thanks! You played a small part in the story, you know. Thanks for the kind words! Your enthusiasm for The Great Wide Shock paint job is much appreciated. I'm giving VERY serious thought to doing the same thing on the new "custom" '68 Vette when I get one, but in glossy pearls this time. Model on!
  10. Very sharp! Well done and model on!
  11. That's a shame. He seemed like a good guy and a strong competitor. He'll be missed.
  12. I have never seen this kit before… That's because it doesn't exist.
  13. Not really. The "for '68" Impala and Camaro were based on the '67 kits, when AMT had the promo contract and the kits were accurate. Not so the Vette, which seems to have been based on spy photos and artists' sketches of the all-new-for-'68 shape. The overall shape is "kinda-sorta-ish" there, but it's off in nearly every dimension and detail. But it does look like a fun build, and I hope to get two of them.
  14. Outstanding! VERY clean build. Well done and model on!
  15. Very nice, very sharp. I have one of these to add to my Polished Plastic collection. Thanks for the inspiration! Well done and model on!
  16. Went looking for something else today and ran across a resin stock '62 Nova body I have no recollection of ever buying. It was like Christmas! In other news, after four days in Lake Purple, Mystery Vette is about 95% stripped, and it should be completely naked tomorrow. That white paint was like armor. Most of it came off in large flakes. Total paint thickness on this body must have been close to two sheets of paper. And surprise surprise surprise, as Gomer used to say, the body itself seems to be an original '63 with revolving headlights (which were glued in). (The interior, remember, is a '64, with definite '64 custom steering wheel, gauge panel, and clipboard.)
  17. Definitely worth $10, congratulations!
  18. I happen to need a set of the hideous things. What kits were they in? Y'all could save me a bunch of hunting.
  19. I looked hard at that '59 but decided against it--didn't like the shape of the side coves, and also I did the '59/'60 in white/red in plastic a couple years ago. My Walmart still has a good stock of these Vettes, so either they're selling and restocking, or they're not selling at all. Still haven't Snake-Fued the one I bought. Think I'm gonna need to completely repaint the cheesy looking red interior.
  20. Breathtaking model, but we've come to expect no less. Extremely well done and model on!
  21. I found a couple more sources for the L71 setup. Most reissues of the AMT '63 Vette Coupe kit have it (left over from when it was a '67). Also, the AMT '70 Impala has the manifold and carbs, but three "bug eye" air cleaners. But as we've learned, the triangle air cleaner is in that Revell '68 roadster with the yellow car on the box.
  22. Not a radio, full interior. Molded in light blue. Chrome's not in the best shape. I don't remember if it's a friction or a true promo. Email me, maybe we can work something out. SnakeACP45 at AOL dot com
  23. Looks like '67-'69 Barracuda, maybe. Probably. https://public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc/mkiba-build-under-c/mpc-instructions/automotive-cars--pi/plymouth/1961-1970/mpc-killer-cuda-bar/cci00031.html
