Wow. On the other hand, no one can say JJ won't share his toys with others. -

Elvis Costello's My Aim Is True and Springsteen's Darkness on the Edge of Town got me through a rough period of my life.... -
The '65 instructions mention cutting them out and using kit-included filler pieces. One of the glue bombs I rescued had the vents cut out (somewhat crudely), but nothing in them. I cleaned up the cutouts as best I could and made GT350-type windows from the side windows from an AMT '72 Nova. It wasn't too difficult and IIRC I got them fitted so closely I was able to just press-fit them in, no cement. And I'll do it again!

You talked me into it, you silver-tongued devil. Although I have two unbuilt copies of this kit, you can put me down for at least one more.

1/25 AMT 1966 Mustang GT -- Original Annual & Modified Reissue
Snake45 replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Wow, sounds like I have a fan! I am truly humbled, sir. I'm working on the Mustang thread (I think I have about 8 of them to show). My records show I've rescued or restored about 11 of my teenage builds. Most of them I've shown here over the years. I'm hoping to do a few more of them in the near future. Of my "insurance payout" models, I think the '66 Skylark and the '66 GTO are the only ones complete and finished at the moment. The AMT '64 GTO was finished at one time but I stripped it a couple decades ago for repaint and never got back to it. Need to do that one soon, too. The '65 Impala, I ruined the roof about 20 years ago trying to straighten it out. All the original parts are still in the original box but I'll probably never do anything with them; I've picked up several '65 Impala glue bombs to build in its place (plus a Hasegawa and at least one Revell). The JoHan '66 Marlin's body is painted and it wouldn't take too much to get that one together if I can ever decide what "style" I want to build it in. The JoHan '66 Rambler is complete in its flat box and unstarted and will probably remain that way. Again, I have a glue bomb or two of that to work on, and have actually been thinking of trying to get one done this year. Thanks again for the kind words! Much appreciated!- 216 replies

Has anyone tried this chrome marker?

$25 for all three sizes isn't a bad price. -
Here's a few that SHOULD be safe here. I hope, anyway.

1/25 AMT 1966 Mustang GT -- Original Annual & Modified Reissue
Snake45 replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
For a while there, I didn't let too many get away. At least not the ones that were even somewhat affordably priced. I'm thinking of starting a thread up Under Glass showing all of them. Think there would be any interest in that?- 216 replies

Okay, if I understand the situation, all the reissues have been basically the original Hardtop kit, which included the standard separate hard top. What confused me (I never had the original annual HT kit) is that on the original box was shown the Town Hardtop roof (no quarter windows), and I have a promo with with the Town Hardtop roof (molded in), so I always thought that's what was in the HT box. But apparently not.

Makes sense, especially if those roof vents really are separate pieces....

Firewall Wiring Painting?
Snake45 replied to Chevy II's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The cars I build mainly have semigloss black engine compartments so I don't paint them at all--they're just more semigloss black. (Maybe that's why I don't build more MOPAR models. ) BTW, the first few models I built back in the day, I tried to paint those wires silver. Judging from old models I've bought on eBay and at the local toy show, and a few I've seen here, I'm not the only one who labored under this misconception. -
Huh. Didn't know that, thanks!

All the reissue '66 T-Bird kits I've seen, including the Prestige, are convertibles. At least one of them includes a separate hardtop. I have a '66 promo that's the formal "Landau" top. AMT actually did do all three Mustangs in '66 (and '65, too). The convertible kit had a separate hard top. Here's a survivor '65.

Mine would have to be either Jimi Hendrix's Are You Experienced? or the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper. -
Great idea! I'll have to see what I can come up with. Maybe paint the name across the back of the trunk lid, or something. Thanks! Thanks Geno! High praise coming from you! Much appreciated! Indeed it is. Thanks for the kind words and model on!

Thought of a good one. The original annual AMT '66 T-Bird convertible kit included a nice tonneau cover to make a sweet phantom Sport Roadster. AFAIK no reissue of the kit has included this great part. I want to build one, so I bought a resin repro from Modelhaus a few years ago, but although the part was listed as '66, it was from a '64 or '65 kit and doesn't fit the '66 very well. I had to buy a nice builtup from eBay a couple years ago to get one.

The original AMT '66 Mustang FB was a GT, with the fog lights in the grille, GT emblems on the front fenders (instead of Mustang), and GT gas cap molded into the body. It included a Shelby-ish custom grille, although the horsie was running the wrong way. Will be interesting to see how the "new" one comes through. Would be VERY nice if they'd include the '66 GT350 side scoops, too. I guess the '65 GT350R front pan is just too much to even wish for.
-
Not only that, but the '64-'65 Chevelle 2DS had their own unique roofs, too. The B-O-P A-body 2DSs had the same roof as the hardtops, but not the Chevelles.

Y'all can thank ME for the new Mustang and Charger kits. I just bought a diecast '16 Charger looking to make a nice shelf model out of it. And over the last few years, I have spent a BUTT-TON of money on eBay buying glue bomb '65 and '66 Mustang fastbacks and promos to restore/rebuild. I think at last count I'd restored something like eight of them now, and have one more nice body left. I'm looking forward to the Lindberg '66 Chevelle in the Retro packaging, too.

Any decent Rock Star Tour Bus would do fine. Wake me up if we go by anything interesting.
-
Right, it's a '64. And it has the rear window louvers that I think were only in that year, too.
