Differences between cheap AB and expensive AB.
Snake45 replied to aurfalien's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I've bought a couple of Chinese-made airbrushes in that price range that are obvious knock-offs of the Badger 350. One I haven't used yet, the other I've only used to spray clearcoats, which it's done well. I have no idea if it will last as long as my 350, which I bought in the early '80s. Also, extra nozzles and parts aren't available for them, and I'd be willing to bet their threads don't interchange with American products (based on my experience with other Chinese knockoff products). -
Absolutely outstanding. One of the finest model cars of any kind I've ever seen.

I know the pink AMX is still around. It was restored and featured in a musclecar mag I read sometime in the last few months.

Any Documented '71 Hemi Baracuda?
Snake45 replied to afx's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Sox & Martin's '71 Hemi Cuda/Barracuda didn't have the fender gills, but I have a feeling that's not what you're looking for. -
Only complaints I've ever heard about the AMT '57 Vette is that the cove shapes aren't quite right, and of course no hard top. It's generally considered to be a pretty nice kit.

Don't think I've ever heard of such a thing, but this is Model World. There's absolutely no reason you can't build a model of one as a "phantom." Chevy never built a '69 low-buck (non-SS) Nova with a 396 and a cowl induction hood, but that doesn't mean there's not one on my workbench. -
Just to make this kinda-sorta-somewhat topic related: http://www.autofocus.ca/media-browser/50-years-of-playboy-playmate-of-the-year-cars Anyone here ever modeled any of these cars? I did the '69 Shelby for a "Ladies Night" theme at IPMS a few years ago. Gotta take and post some pics of that thing.

I imagine they're 1/24, so 4% too big for the 1/25 conversion you're doing. Best way to get those gills into your body would prolly be to cut a section out of a Monogram body and graft them into your Revell body. They'll still be 4% too big, but that MIGHT not be noticeable. I just did a Monogram '71 and I did that gill trim with a Silver Sharpie and it came out looking great. I really doubt that foil would have looked any better. Of course, the EASIEST way to do your '71 would just be do a straight Barracuda. But that idea might not appeal to you.

The marketing/SPAM calls are getting weirder!

If I have time, I like to screw with these jerks as long as possible. Last week I had one from some foreigner "from Microsoft" claiming my computer had a virus. I kept him on the phone for about 20 minutes asking him where he was calling from, and who he worked for, and what a virus was, and so forth, acting like I was hard of hearing and/or maybe not too bright, and when he got around to asking me to turn on my computer, I said, "What are you talking about? I don't even own a computer. I refuse to have one of those things in my house!" I didn't even have to tell him to put me on their Don't Call list. I think he did that on his own. You should hear the fun I have with jerks calling from some bogus cancer or disease or "friends of police" charity. I like to ask them how much money THEY make and how much THEY gave to the charity. Among other things. -
Good deal, and the best fix of all.

I'm kinda digging where you're going with this. More, please!

And I think it lives on today as the Lindberg '74.

Doesn't look half bad. I'll probably pass because I already built the Revell diecast 1/25 kit and am happy with it, but if you missed that one, you might want to check it out. Decent price, too. https://www.diecastmodelswholesale.com/1968-ford-mustang-gt-fastback-green-from-bullitt-movie-1-24-diecast-model-car-by-greenlight/

1969 Dodge “Country Charger” R/T by round2
Snake45 replied to Nick Notarangelo's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I've never seen a single episode of DOH (and I'm old enough to have watched Starsky & Hutch--also Batman, The Monkees, etc.) and have never built a General Lee model, nor do I have any desire to. But I don't have ANY problem at all with anyone who does. I resist PC-Hive Mind whenever and wherever I find it! -
Yes, I know. When I've posted diecast models of "mainstream interest" (1/25 scale '50s-'70s American cars, hot-rodded) in the under glass section, they don't last long until they get kicked down here in Diecast Ghetto where they don't get much attention. And though this section is called "Diecast & Resin," I don't see that resin-bodied models get kicked down here too. One of these days I'm gonna start a discussion up in General and see if we can get the policy changed. (My position is that "Diecast" is more for 1/18, 1/43, 1/64, and other typical diecast scales, but we'll have that discussion someday.)
-
Very cool! I don't think I'd have been able to resist the temptation to rod it.
-
Probably because they've never actually seen a '70 Cuda in China.

I have quite a few Wellys, Maistos, M2s, Motor Maxes, Satios, and prolla a couple other brands I can't remember right now. All 1/24-1/25. I only buy the ones with good body shapes. I don't think I've paid over about $20 for any of them. I spend a couple hours detailing them with paint and silver Sharpies and they look great. Big fun, low cost, small investment in time--what's not to like?

So's mine. I polished the plastic and it looks great, but it was a LOT of work.

We had a pretty thorough discussion of this topic a couple years ago. For those who came in late: -
Anyone else experiencing a delay when clicking on a post etc?

I had this too for several hours the other day. I finally gave up trying to post then.
