stitchdup replied to BWDenver's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
this might help, i dont know if its the same file but the parts look similar https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/various/ferrari-365-daytona-engine -
look at nail art stores or amazon. you can get 25 rolls of tape in various colours and finishes for aroun 10 bucks. some of it has an engine turned finish among others

while wandering around edinburgh yesterday i found a small railway shop with some models. the kits were expensive (near double the price of the same kits i can get locally so i bought some woodland scenics briar patch to add to my dioramas. i only realised today i'm flying so will have to go through security and its looks very like a decent amount of weed so i'm going to get searched. the citadel spray stick i bought will also look suspicious on the scanners (i know this because i was janitor at my local airport for a while so i know what they can see on their screens) I also got some more brushes and a set of paintmarkers from "the works" so if you are in the uk i'd have a look as 10 good brushes are only £3 and they are good quality. i think i'll go to the airport fairly early the morn, lol pics from the internet, my box of the plantlife is packed full compared to this one

if you want to print bodies you need a plate at minimum 2/3rds the length of the body and i would suggest an inch wider on each side than the body so it can be printed at an angle. Do you want to print full kits in one shot or are you happy to print them over a few days? The best time to buy is january, just when the new printers are released. The previous version usually get big reductions to make space for the new ones. also, before even getting a printer make sure your computer has enough processor to run the slicer, i didn't and after buying my first printer i then had to wait 2 weeks to buy a better laptop. 8 gig is the minimum that will run it but more is better, especially if you are designing your own parts. a swear jar is a great way to save up for more resin too, because the printer will make you swear at times but it is worth having if you buy a lot of aftermarket stuff. I've probably saved over £1500 on shipping since i got my printers

pva/wood glue (its the same stuff) isn't really suitable for heating to speed up the process. its much stronger if left to dry naturally. they use it to build furniture and it doesn't get heated either. -
i saw a dry ice fabric cleaner on car sos. it was impressive and didn't get everything soaked.

something like flower arranging wire might work. it bends easily and some is already polished

you could add a small groove where the trim goes, then use wire for the trim. if you are careful you could probably do each fender in one piece

Simple Fix For Cheap Hobby Knives

i find it makes little difference. just because one brand fitted your handle once, it doesn't mean the next packwill fit. usually i just buy the pack of 100 blades that comes with a handle. medical type blades wont hold an edge for long though, and you'll probably use 3 or 4 where you'd use one exacto blade. i do like them better for foil though. swann morton is a decent brand but twice the price of cheapo chinese imports for not much real benefit. -

I can print for you if you have files David. I did some testing with the phone tape and it doesn't add much thickness. The underhood detail on this bonnet is held on with the tape. where theres tape its holding tight but i should have used more as it lifting where is didn't se it. It also seems resilient to solvents as i gave it a heavy duplicolour primer coat and its still holding. -
send me a pm with what you want to change. you guys only get a few days to edit i believe

the sunroofs from the polar lights bugs fit the tamiya great. perhaps someone on the forum has a spare?

centering the rear axle
stitchdup replied to sidcharles's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
why not just dry assemble with the body and mark the centre on the chassis relative to the body. a simple scratch on top of the chassis rails should be enough and will be hidden when its built -
Dishonest ads on the forum
stitchdup replied to JPL-ACE's topic in Forum News and Questions (formerly: How To Use This Board)
the ads choose where to go depending on the key words. we have no say in what ads they show but they do fund the site. Its just the nature of google now, money comes before all else, including self respect but when you have a pretty sizable monopoly who's going to stop them? -

some of the most commonly used words on the site are models, toys and drag and guess what the common searches on adult sites are? -

since i have my mk3 kits out, and since i needed the grille and bonnet for the golf i've started building the vento alongside the golf. it only has an engine because i needed somewhere for the bonnet to sit, this is staying curbside. colour will be ford wedgewood green from the 98 ford mondeos. wheels probably wont be bbs
