Revell Deutz D30 Tractor
stitchdup replied to GeeBee's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Cool, I just finished one of these last week. You'll find the plastic on the wheels will show throught he paint more than most reds do -
Very nice, the colour looks particularly nice on the mk1

Sweet, one of my fav rally cars when i was a kid. it was always fun to watch them drifting 25 years before it got popular
-
those radars are nice wheels, I've recently got a set. I can happily recomend their brm and sprintstars too. The ss are staggered unlike the other aircooled rims from uscp

Spray Cans With Pace Spray Booth?
stitchdup replied to Tom Geiger's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I use spray cans in my booth regularly. No issues other than sometimes forgetting to put the hose out the window -
What did you see on the road today?
stitchdup replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This just got off the boat. Maybe not that unusual in the US, but in Orkney this is very unusual and makes a nice change from the fairly large number of new mustangs and ranger pick ups. sorry pfor the poor pic -

thanks guys -
when your partner tells you that you have too many models and you have to sell some, but you really dont want to. Of course its worth that much honey, you tell her knowing you wont have to part with any (and if you do you can buy a load more)

Thats pretty cool. There's modelling in the last series of agants of shield too, looked to be monogram and revell kits from the early/mid eighties

They dont seem to be covering the comment box now, thanks Dave

I'm not allowed the medicine that helps myconstant pain because someone deemed it illegal long before I was born. Instead my only option is opiate painkillers and diazepam and to be unable to work because of the many side effects. I'm not ready to retire at 45 and i want to keep working but to get the thing that helps i have to be dying first which I'm not planning any time soon.

Is anyone else finding the reply/comment box filled with an ad? They are covering the part for pics and most of the box, when I try to post a thread and it seems pointless to not put pics of the models along with the description of it. Its happening on every thread for me except this one funnily enough

Opel Blitz to 38 Chevy Truck-Your Thoughts?
stitchdup replied to Dodge Driver's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I'm sure the opel I built had different wheels to the box art but it was a while ago and the model is long gone. I seem to remember the wheels were more of a spoked look (not wires) -
Can I see your guys model stashs' ?
stitchdup replied to Ctmodeler's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
For me its because I have trans kits for some of them or its just kits I have more than one plan for or even because some of them are parts goldmines. Also some were too cheap to turn down (trade fodder) -
Yeah its a very simple kit and i probably paid too much for it since my plan is a x pack kit and cossie engine on some wide wheels. I tried what I think is a 80s mustang chassis under it and it should fit with a little trimming. I'll not be using the kit headlights either as i like the early mk2 square lights better so the spares from the belkits mk1 escort will be used instead. I'm going to have to reshape the bumpers too so they are more uk spec mk2 versions but it should be pretty simple to thin them down.

I Just bought a case
stitchdup replied to Spruslayer's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I bet most of the cost is the free shipping. When I order paint they charge an extra £60 for shipping inside the uk. -
Built from the revell snap kit and weathered with humbrol enamels using one brush (not cleaned between colours) and while the paint was still sticky I put it in a bag with powdered rust and gave it a gentle shake. I wasn't sure how to weather the chrome so I just left it as it was

Louvers. Possible solution?
stitchdup replied to Straightliner59's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Great idea that looks very promising, and I'm sure with a few more shots at it you'll get them even now you have proof of concept. I'm thinking out loud here but making a backing part for the other side would help with the consistancy. Maybe if you tap the chisel into an alu block or some hard wood. I saw a program where Gene Winfield described how to get them to go around corners/edges evenly too that was putting a point in the centre of the louvres so when you bend the metal they stay true to those on the flat parts and I think your method would work for that too. -
Great trade with modlbldr. His end arrived from the usa before I got my end posted today. Great speed from usps too, 7 days for an international delivery to scotland. Thankyou Tom

Makes me glad I live in the uk, although when i was a kid there was a local garage that was notorious for passing a cars m.o.t if you left a half bottle of whisky in the glove box. My dad put his car in for 2 tyres to be fitted and nothing was done but he got a new certificate. I had a friend over working from Poland and he put his car in to get new discs fitted and the guy doing it couldn't get one of the retaining screws out so in his infinite wisdom, instead of using an impact driver he cut the driveshaft in half and gave up, thus destroying the guys car that really was in decent condition. Only tried to charge the guy a grand for it, thinking he wouldn't argue. I directed the guy to go down and lock his car up and take the keys with him so the garage couldn't do any more damage and we went to trading standards to put in a complaint. We got the guys car moved when they got involved, and another competent garage fixed it all at the first garages expense. The first garage shut very soon afterwards

CA and other things I'm clueless about
stitchdup replied to SCRWDRVR's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
When you're doing the foil use a new blade, and instead of q-tips have a look in the make up section of stores. You'll find a much better selection of q-tip style applicators and they are much cheaper than the tamiya ones with much more in the pack. The ones with the point are best for getting into the corners and are much less likelly o puncture the foil. I also put low tack tape down close to the outside edges of the trim so the foil doesn't stick to the paint.. It also helps to use a round handled holder for the blade, I find it easier to use the round handle as you can roll it around corners easier than a flat handle but that personal choice really. If its a knife you are comfortable using that also helps. It looks like you have some good sharp edges on the window trim already so that will help you when doing the foil. Dont press hard on the knife, let the weight of the handle do the cut as you gently pull slide the blade along the edge it cuts really easily. Also, avoid drinking too much coffee before doing the foil, you dont want your hands shaking, and plenty of light is good too
