I repainted one of the haynes (welly really) vw transporters for my mum a few years ago to represent the last holiday before my dad passed. I should have done a bay window but the spilt is much easier and cheaper to find so it got the lower half repainted dark blue using left over paint from our old van. When I get another bay window I'll be doing the full camper for her with some fun details only the family will know, such as a blue fan beltand some loo roll (both have a connection in one story). Unfortunately during the photbucket fiasco I lost my pics

Suitable kits for 'Ford vs. Ferrari' film
stitchdup replied to 89AKurt's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think the licensing could be a problem for this movie. Just to start there's ford and ferarri but then you get into the sponsors too so we're probably best keeping the lawyers out of it unless you fancy some really expensive kits. I'm sure the aftermarket is already tooling up parts for the already released kits anyway- 13 replies

This is one of my recent non plastic purchases. I've been wanting a plastic kit of a modern bentley (from vw ownership period) to add to my collection of vws. Unfortunately nobody makes one, not even the lemans racers, so the next best option was a diecast. This one popped up real cheap and looked to be pretty decent proportioned compared to some diecasts and shouldn't look out of place with the other dubs. Now as you've seen all my stuff gets modded and this is no different. The paint is lumpy and scratched on this so its getting repainted straight black with no pearls or metallics. I'm changing the wheels for the bugels as the bentley rims will be going on something else (mk5 gti maybe) at some point and I'm going to be slamming it cos everything looks better on the ground. I didn't realise until i took it apart that it has working lights and engine sound but I wont be worrying about those bits as i know nothing about it and the battery terminals have teurned to powder. I will be doing a red interior as if i could afford a bentley, thats what i'd have. The only body mods will be losing the badges and front number plate, and once my pe mesh (thanks Mike) arrives i'll put it in the grille and vents. I'll have to narrow the rear wire axle and play with the front end to get it low but if need be i can lose the steering too. Hopefully it wont be a long project, Anyway on with the pics.

Cool, it looks convincing in the livery, I just hope some dumb kid dosn't try to eat it for a youtube vid

Cool, I like the mods you made, very in keeping with the vw tuning scene

VW Golf mk3 van
stitchdup replied to stitchdup's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
So this hasn't left my bench, but I've been working most night since october on a boat so progress halted. When i last worked on it i realised i'd managed to mix detail on the engine between the 1.8t and the tfsi engines so I'll be redoing the head and trying to save other parts. Today I added some extra plastic to the bay sides to remove some gaps and give me somewhere to glue it to the body. I also got the body a bit closer and will give it a light prime to help see where it needs more work . -
Nice looking bug, I particularly like the parcel tray detail, if you hadn't said it was the endzone pattern (not a sport i know) i would have missed it, but its a super cool subtle detail that follows your theme without being overpowering

even if revell put a ring of cardboard around the contents would help to give the box edges strength, and make it easier to get the contents in the boxes but i guess that few pennies less is worth it to them even with all of us hating their boxes

Thats kinda cool, I believe its the last skoda model before vw took them over. While its a different scale, how doea it compare size ways to 24 and 25? I ask because I'm going to have to try and find one if they compare well enough to not look out of place with my other vw family stuff
-
I think i know which seller you guys bought from. Starts with a k? I've stopped buying from them after my last order arrived almost flattened. The free shipping is attractive but I prefer to pay and get my kits inside a box instead of wrapped in a thin sheet of cardboard.

A viable alternative to "Future" for UK modellers???
stitchdup replied to Jamese30's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
If you know someone that cleans supermarkets, airports or similar with the floor polishing machines, ask them for some of the sealer they apply. Its pretty much just pledge/future and will work the same way. Also the stuff will last much longer as it gets diluted a lot. been a while since i used it but i'm sure it diluted at something like 50-1. Theres loads of brands available and most janitorial supplies or building merchants will have at least one of them at around £30 for 10 or more litres depending on the brand -

Source for Number 11 Blades
stitchdup replied to Tom Geiger's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I tend to go for the swan morton medical scalpels, box of 100 sterile blades for about 15 quid with a new handle included. I can find exacto blades local but they are 5 quid for 3 and i'm too cheap to pay that -
do you know where the wheels and tyres on the up top are from? they look kinda cool for a bike idea

Its looks like it was made by a company called toy kings in hong kong and imported to the uk by asoa stores. theres also what looks to be 2 other logos, one saying msz and the other a 3d pic of a box with some writting i cant make out. I think it may be one thats more likely to be found under toys than diecasts

What Kits were molded in RED ?
stitchdup replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
revell vw golf mk2 has some in red. revell porsche junior tractor at least one version of the old tool revell vw bugs monogram 36 ford coupe (maybe more maroon than red) revell escort xr3 italeri volvo f16 -
got this cheap from ebay, since nobody make a plastic kit (the lemans car would be awesome) of the bentley I got this cheap diecast. I think it is a little under scale but once its been modded (stance, wheels, brakes and a repaint in black with red interior) it should fit well with the rest of my vw family of builds. the proportions look pretty good to me and the wheels will fit a bug kinda well

poor pics but some more arrivals today. Who'da thunk it'd be cheaper to buy an american kit from australia than anywhere else so the scirocco was real cheap. After building it once before i now want to build an improved version since i can use the previous build to find the bits i need to pay more attention to. The tractor is just something I wanted as i live in a farming/fishing community so inspiration is everywhere. The mk2 golf was only purchased to save my kamei boxing as its pretty rare and i want to build it. The 2 heb and 56 oval are from bestmodelcarparts on ebay and are much nicer than my pics (going back for the corvair truck soon as I can sorta justify it for my vw collection due to the aircooled and rear engine, lol.

Appologies for the dark pics but i have a lot of trouble getting pics of white resin so this was the best i could do. I have included a tamiya body with the oval so all the changes can be seen. The heb will be getting a 356 engine from firerods and possibly some highlight model studio bomber seats and scale production 17 inch 356 rims for an outlaw porsche theme

My hebmuller and 56 arrived today. Great service and fantastic resin too. I will happily recommend it to the vw fans
