Well, if you likes that, how about this one?
-
Humm I see. All the pics I've seen say the ones I posted were sharks and the chrome plated ones were super sharks. But, yea, that would make sense. Looks like they were incorrect.

Revell '29 hotrod pickup.
Can-Con replied to Can-Con's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Got the frame painted and the front suspension attached. Used the kit suspension and just split the wishbone and attached the back ends to the frame. -
Well, I guess the OP cares or he wouldn't have asked the question.?
-
Yea, they're these ones. They also come in the reissues of the '76 Caprice as the wheels for the trailer. I have a bunch of them. BTW Jack, I looked up the wheels you mention as I've never heard of them before and see they look exactly like the Fenton Hawks.
-
I don't think they're Sharks, Roger. Note the way the soples are convex like Cragar SS wheels? They may be Hawks though, they look closer with the flat or slightly concave spokes.

Great save Mike. Always wonderful to see another old forgotten build brought back to life ???

Since we're showing our old Novas, I did find a pic almost identical to my old one. Just needs the Magnum 500 wheels a bit lower and a lot more rust. LOL?

Cool Gareth. About the T-bird. I suggest cutting the front and rear pans away from the chassis plate and glueing them on toward the end of assembly. , It'll make them much easier to get properly placed without a gap.

The newer AMT '70 Z-28 is the one you need. Any of the 3 variants are good. Much better chassis detail, as you'd expect from a modern tooled kit.
-
Yes, it is but the Ventura and Nova were basically identical except for the engines, front ends and tail lights ,, and some assorted interior bits. IF, I were inclined to do a detailed build of my old car, I'd use the kit chassis, cut off the molded on front subframe and swap out the subframe from the AMT '70 Camaro kit. I'd also cut off the hangers molded on the pan for the rear metal axle and use the Camaro parts. The rear chassis pan "sheetmetal" and gas tank is basically correct, just needs better detailed suspension from the Camaro. My old car was a bit of an odd duck as it was a very basic car with almost no options. Didn't even have a light in the glove box. and a strait6 auto tranny. BUT, the guy who owned it before me was a mechanic [ my X-es brother in law] and I do believe he did some "tinkering" to it. It had the sway bars front and rear, front seemed to be lower than stock. Less than 5 inches ground clearance under the front frame crossmember. and with 70 serise tires all around on those wide rims it handles like it was on rails. and that 6 ran like a Swiss watch. I remember staying up with an '80s 3 series BMW on the Trans Canada Highway for about an hour or so one late fall day. It looked like a dog's breakfast but it was one quick car.
-
BTW, any of you guys wanting to put a more detailed suspension under one of these later Novas, the older Revell Novas are not the correct front suspension for them. From about '75[IIRC] they used the same front subframe as the second generation Camaro and Firebird. And, yes, most of the good handling goodies from the Z-28 and/or Trans Am fit right in there.

Loved Asimov. I think I read almost all his novels. Also read some Heinlein. Have come to the conclusion that both were "dirty old men", Heinlein more so than Asimov. ? I've always liked reading short stories better than long novels. Pulp magazines and anthologies where I could read a story in one sitting were great. Although I have read Kings "Gunslinger" saga. Took better part of 10 years to finish it and then he comes out with another book that goes in the middle after I'd finished. ,, I have no intention of reading it. Sifi comedys were always a favorite. Harry Harrison's "Bill, the galactic hero" series is still a hoot !! As a teen I had subscriptions to "Twilight Zone Magazine", Asimov's and Omni. Some ground breaking stories in them back then. I remember reading Bruce Sterling's "Mozart in Mirrorshades" when it was originally published in Omni and led me down the rabbit hole that is cyberpunk.

Sounds just how some of my builds go Mark. Try to fix one thing and mess up 2 or 3 more. I had to send the back bumper out for replating 3 times on my custom '62 Chrysler I finished a couple months ago. Just kept messing up the chrome and needing to have it redone. ANYWAY ,, Love the car. Looks along the lines of how I'd have done it myself.

If you look at the brochure page with the dash detail shot and chart for the available colors,, at the bottom of the page it says what colors were available , , "Cabriolet and vinyl roof covers for Nova Custom and Nova in black, light blue, light green, white, beige, dark carmine and silver " But you have to open the whole page up to see it written at the bottom. That would certainly indicate that vinyl roof covering was available on Novas in '79. It probably was just not very popular on such a car. More common on the 4 door sedan than the 2 door though.

AMT old '32 Roadster kits have a wheel that would look close if painted up right. I think there's one even closer but I can't remember where I seen it right now.
-
MPC/AMT '69 Firebirds have something really close but with 6 bolts for some reason. There's a few other kits with similar wheels too. AMT '80s Ford pickup annuals. Monogram '64 GTO and '80s Monte Carlos but those are supposed to be more of the billet aluminum ones . Pegasus has some in 19" and 24" sizes
-
You spelled it wrong. Very desirable kit in showcar circles. I'd love to have one of those in my stash.

Well, this should be interesting. I owned a '79 Nova for several years. Drove it until it was too rusty to be roadworthy. That kit is a '79 BTW, not a '78. Only year they used the square headlights. Mine also had a set of 14" X 7" Olds Magnums but it was that light metallic blue that GM liked to put on everything back then The dash and sew pattern on the seats is wrong for that year Nova. The kit was originally released in '75 as a Pontiac Venture and the interior was never updated. Same with the engine. It's more Pontiac than Chevy. But I wouldn't worry too much about that. I'd just build it and have fun. ?

The extra gauges in the Vette are from the AMT "THE Cat" Vette kit. Can't say about the rest. I kinda like that custom hood though. https://public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc/mkiba-build-under-c/amt-instructions/tv--movie/amt-the-cat-corvett/zimg202.html#media The rear treatment looks a lot like what I did to this '62 back in the '80s. They must have seen the same pics I did. -
I'm sorry to hear that too Bill. Maybe the ones I got were better because I bought them at a show or maybe because they were strait recasts of an existing kit with no modifications done. But ,, yea, this will certainly discourage me from buying any on-line. IF i see them in person at a show, well maybe if they're $25 like the other ones I bought, maybe. But Yes, definitely not worth what these E-bay guys are asking for them. ??
