  1. John, the MPC Challenger body was used for a funnycar and all the trim and panel lines were wiped. This IIRC, was the last time it was seen. [pic from Sean Svendsen]
  2. I wouldn't mind seeing your list also Dave. The P.M. function wouldn't work for some reason though.
  3. What ? no love for a boat tail Riviera ?? 15 or 20 years ago there were rumors going around that Revell was looking into making one .
  4. Yes, I agree with all that.
  5. It's a great kit for kit builders who want a custom car on their shelf without putting in the actual work. At least it looks a lot better than that monstrosity of a custom Merc from "American Graffiti" or that hoge podge of mixed styles of the car from "Cobra" As for the windshield. 2-peice windshields V-butted together in the middle without a divider is traditional but starting in the late '89s you could buy one-piece, V-ed windshields cut to fit for custom Mercs and Fords. Maybe this is what it's supposed to represent. The only real problems I see with it are the slab sided body , which is NOT sectioned [Casey] and the front of the hood which looks oddly flat for some reason. When I do a custom Merc, I'll use this for parts but I'll use an AMT body and do my own custom work. But, as I said, it's great for someone who can't do that but wants a custom.
  6. Those are just place holders Nigel. To show what the ride height should be. I haven't decided on the exact wheels yet but they'll be very '60s and have white wall tires.
  7. That's looking great. , especially considering which kit you started with.
  8. Original issue was in the mid '70s. Only other issue was in the mid '90s. It was modified into the '72 Chevy longbed that's being reissued now .
  9. The silver shows all the imperfections I need to address before actual paint.
  10. Beautiful car. Love the paint, what is it?
  11. Great looking bunch of builds.
  12. Thanks Aaron. Yea, those '70s cars were not exactly the flame throwing "muscle cars" of the '60s but it's what we grew up with. [I was 12 in '77] A lot of the older guys like to carp on those cars but they forget, or don't care that they're carping on fond memories of OUR childhood. BTW, I'm gathering parts to do another '77. This one will address the lack of HP. ?
  13. It was a full 4 page feature article Mike., not a couple words and the pic of my car on the cover . That, I've done several times in both of the main car model magazines. So, yea, I do know the difference.
  14. You can get pretty close using a couple sizes of plastistruct strips. Carefully glue the wider one on first with liquid cement, let it fully set for a day or two and glue the narrower one on. Worked pretty good for me. I added the trim on the box to match the existing trim on the cab.
  15. A few years ago my '77 Volare Road Runner was featured on the cover. Harry did the text and I did the pics,, and of cores the build. At the time, no compensation was discussed and I do not now or then expect any even though I had been told by many people that I should have been paid for something. Again, I didn't expect it than and don't now that years have passed. I might even try submitting an article again in the future , , , but I would expect compensation for that. ?
  16. Correct. It was switched over mid-year. To change the '79 Nova back to a '77 ,, or '78, you need the grille. Hood would work , BUT , the front panel below the headlights is different and that's molded to the body. If it wasn't for that it would be a simple matter of swapping grilles.
  17. It would take a heak of a lot of work to turn the '79 Nova back to that .. not to mention any Nova is at least 10 times more popular than that car.
  18. Yup, same here. Really, wouldn't mind having another one to do up with current techniques. Mike, I bet you're around 55, give or take? ?
  19. From what I'm reading "blue heron" and "green falcon" weren't colors but option packages ,,, can that be right? "Later in the model year another Newport was offered, with slightly modified trim borrowed from the 1955 New Yorker St. Regis. Depending upon the color ordered, these late versions were named "Green Falcon" or "Blue Heron" and came in 2 and 4-door versions. The 4-door sedans used the same trim package as the 2-door Newport." http://wildaboutcarsonline.com/members/AardvarkPublisherAttachments/9990549376637/1955_Chrysler_Info_1B.pdf The article dosen't say what exact shade of blue they were but the one pictured above looks like "stardust blue" and I see another one on the net that looks like either "glacier blue" or "turquoise" and the ones in the ads below look like "Mediterranean blue" and "surf green" poly, which are metallic colors.
  20. Jason, do you have a Michael's crafts in your area, or any craft store? I'd get some paint for stained glass like the Krylon stuff below. Walmart might even have it. Or even that Duplicolor Metalcast anodizing stuff from Canadian Tire.
  21. Thanks JC. I'll be able to use some of those for sure.
  22. One of my first cars was a '74 Bobcat wagon. It rusted out from under me never had a problem with the engine.
  23. First thing would be to finish the 3 I have on my bench right now ,, '72 Chevy stepside, custom '65 Impala and the '77 Pinto. ,, plus the Rodan Boeing 720. After that ,,, who knows? Wherever that darn squirrel leads me. ? Possibly a custom 1st gen Eldorado on a Riviera chassis? Maybe another hotrod. I was thinking last night of a "King T" but with a center door sedan body. Possibly build/restore my Astro 1 Corvair concept car.
  24. I was thinking turbo but since a turbo setup is in the custom reissue, I didn't want to be that obvious. SO, now I'm thinking something along these lines,,,
