Offbeat Places You Have Purchased Model Kits?
Sledsel replied to Casey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I bought a Monogram '58 Thunderbird (Special Interest Series) at the Henry Ford Museum gift shop. -
Ford started using that scoop in 1957 on the larger super duty trucks. It was used til at least 1971, maybe later. In the early years it was forward facing.

Ford`s 429 Blue Crescent Engine
Sledsel replied to 69NovaYenko's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
As an FYI, for a stock Boss 429 the cross over tube for the upper radiator hose would not be there. That was something used on racing engines. See first pic for reference. The AMT instructions are pretty poor in my opinion. They show the distributor where the stock radiator hose connects and the coil where the distributor should be. See pic 2 for a stock locations -
AMT '63 Corvette kit
Sledsel replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I like the kit. Built it as a kid and when it came out with the same box art I built it again. It has its short comings and some fit issues but with patience builds up to a good looking kit -

Recently got into the big trucks and have a dilemma. I have the SD/DD Freightliner and Lowboy trailer. Question is: the tires in my lowboy are the same as my Freightliner. On Bills72sj's build of the same combo he stated the tires on the trailer were from the kit. Are the incorrect tires in my kit? If I was to look for resin/rubber replacements for a more correct tire, what should I look for? I am totally new to the trucks and a little guidance is needed. Thanks Pic is a comparison of my tires on hand. From left to right: Revell W900, Moebius Tire set, Loyboy/Freightliner tire and Lindberg Dodge L-700. All about the same with the Lindberg being slightly shorter than the Moebius and AMT. Revell being the tallest.

Thanks! Interesting that the tires with my current lowboy kit are the same as my truck. Guess I will be searching out some tires.

Those cats!!! My cat likes to take tires from me, so I get it. So there are 2 front dual drive axles... Got it. My build has a stretched frame also, I used the rear frame from the DD and the front frame from the SD which made it much easier for me. Okay, one more question.... what did those smaller wheel and tires come from? My first thought was the Dodge L700, but they are only a little bit shorter. Yours looks more correct IMO. Thanks!

Or the kit shown was not in the package.... The Mustang II comes to mind, the box build is an MPC, but the kit was the AMT.

Correct, but this was released by Ertl and someone built it for the box art. The pieces missing in the pics are included in the kit though.

Another 75th White Freightliner kit!
Sledsel replied to TruckerAL's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Looking good. How you get the front tires pulled in under the cab? -
Looks freaking great!!!!! But I have a few questions being new into doing trucks. How did you get the front wheels inboard? I know they stick out to far on this (building one myself) How is the triple axle done? I'd like to do one someday Is that the AMT Lowboy? Are those the tires that are included? They seem smaller than the truck tires and my lowboy they are the same as the truck. Thanks and again... Awesome build

Dodge Returning to NASCAR?!
Sledsel replied to Joe Handley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Does not matter... all cookie cutter cars, nothing special to watch anymore. Lost interest when the first COT came out.
