  1. I use toe nail clippers. WEAR EYE PROTECTION!!! There are two types of clippers: curved cut and straight cut. I use the straight cut, although they are a little more difficult to find. The clippers also work well when trimming the sprue plastic from the part.
  2. Thanks...I was getting ready to order from their website when I noticed the shipping costs were more than the cost of the model! I'll wait...there's no compelling need to get this ASAP
  3. Thank you. Out of idle curiosity (and not that it really matters), what was the shipping timeframe?
  4. An Xacto miter box (with a clip-on stop) should work just fine.
  5. Cool! Where can I order one (please note my last name)?
  6. I use zinc-plated BBs (available at walmart)...a small container has 1,200 BBs and is probably a lifetime supply.
  7. Almost every varnish I've seen is amber in color, so varnish doesn't play well with lighter colors, especially white.
  8. The "Blob" might be insulating foam sealant, which is NASTY stuff to remove.
  9. Get a picture of the 1:1 headlight, print it on decal paper, then trim/apply it to the headlight.
  10. Good idea! While you're in the early construction phase, maybe now would be the time to include hoses etc. for a shop vac (or even the vacuum itself).
  11. Stellar workmanship (I have a suggestion about the firing order on the distributor) and since this is a tips and tutorial area, how about sharing some of your techniques and tools used?
  12. I was thinking more along the lines of a garden hose...
  13. According to the link, the paint is matt; I don't know if gloss colors are available. While you're experimenting with the spoons. try some gloss clear over the top coat.
  14. For the coil springs, wrap the wire around a bolt, keeping the wire in the valleys of the threads...that makes for nice, even spacing.
  15. Make sure you're using Silly Putty and not the similar Play Doh. Silly Putty will not leave a residue, but Play Doh leaves a greasy footprint behind.
  16. Whatever...I (like you) was showing there are ways to include multiple filters to reduce the search results
  17. At one time you could block multiple items by using parenthesis preceded by the minus sign. An example would be... -(Exclusion1, Exclusion2, Exclusion3) Just make sure you use the comma and space to differentiate them.
  18. I use a home-made setup involving a cut-up cardboard box, a sheet of blue (or other color, depending on the color of the model) paper, a couple of lights, and a tripod-mounted camera. The box & paper. By using a single sheet with a curve at the bottom, the model appears to "float" and there's no messy seam to contend with. Garden-variety clip-on lamps are mounted on bar stools; I forget what they are called, but the bulbs have a bluish tint in the glass. It works well for me!
  19. According to the instructions on the bottle, Micro Set from MICROSCALE can be used to remove decals. This should be fairly safe on the paint; after all you use it to apply the deals, don't you?
  20. I'm interested...I'd like to see a bit more description as well as some photos.
  21. The Q-tip approach is not as crisp as using some balsa (being very porous) soaked in lacquer thinner. When you use this approach, cut a nice crisp edge on the balsa, soak it, and wipe away the paint on the emblem; when the balsa gets too much paint on it and starts smearing, re-trim and start over.
  22. A word of caution...do not burnish the matte aluminum too much, or you could end up with a polished aluminum appearance. I'd strongly suggest you practice on some scrap first.
  23. Do you have a vacuum-forming device?
