Paint not drying on resin parts
DRIPTROIT 71 replied to NOBLNG's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The only time that I experienced this was on a truck cab that the resin wasn’t completely mixed. The cab had cured for years. It was completely dry to the touch, but the resin had swirl marks in it. The paint wouldn’t dry at all in a couple of spots on the cab and the resin began to soften again. I suppose that the paint re-activated the resin. I’m guessing that resin that wasn’t completely cured could have the same reaction. -
IH Paystar 5000 4x4
DRIPTROIT 71 replied to DRIPTROIT 71's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Thanks guys! The tires leak down after about a week.? Thanks Jim! The tires were made by Kit Form Services but were discontinued. I picked these 2 up in a trade from Jeff “gotnitro”. STS has a limited supply from a limited run in stock right now. They are pretty pricey now that they are discontinued, but it was the only way to get 2 more. The other 2 should be here any day. Thanks! Thanks Jeff. Those do look familiar. The problem is that I used the other 2 on my spreader truck, so I have 2 more coming from STS. Thanks! The front axle and transfer case are from Kit Form Services. -
1968 Dodge D800 Dump
DRIPTROIT 71 replied to DRIPTROIT 71's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Thanks so much for the huge compliment!! Remember, I’ve seen your work. Mine pales in comparison. Thanks to everyone who commented! Thanks to all the great builders who were an encouragement along the way. Thanks to Charles Rowley who sent me the proper hood! This one is done and Under Glass. -
Fictional ad in early 80s Local Newspaper: For Sale: 1968 Dodge D800 Dump Truck; New Paint, New Tires, New Side Boards, New Tailgate Chains. 361 V8 engine runs strong, low mileage, smokes a little. 4 speed trans with two speed axle. This truck is solid and ready to work. Call for price. Special thanks to Charles Rowley who sent me the correct hood for this build as the hood that came with it was wrong.

I normally don’t start another project until the one I am working on is finished, but while I was waiting on another hood for the Dodge, I started this. It was inspired by an actual truck that sold on the internet. Although it was powered by an IH diesel engine, mine will be 6-71 powered. Here is the inspiration truck: Here is what I have so far:

I never would have believed that this truck was painted with a brush if you hadn’t said so. This thing looks great! Excellent work! -

The Official EBay Discussion Thread
DRIPTROIT 71 replied to iamsuperdan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I actually buy semi kits and parts off of EBay pretty often. There are often re-releases listed as vintage probably and hopefully because the seller doesn’t know any better. I figure that these are honest mistakes. There are also listings that just show a box full of parts that say “what you see is what you get“ and the pictures seem to be strategically taken to hide what you get. I personally consider these to be scams. This may not be the case on this kit however. While the parts aren’t laid out clearly they can mostly be seen. This is probably just a mistake. But as the title of the thread reads, we as buyers need to beware and look at the photos carefully when buying. There are plenty of other scams such as re-sealing going on too, but too many to discuss here. -

Copying and Printing License Plates
DRIPTROIT 71 replied to NOBLNG's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I have taken a picture of a plate from the web and pulled into a work file to get it the right size, printed it on regular white printer paper (highest resolution on printer), then covered each side with clear box tape to protect it, and glue on with white glue. -
Looks Awesome Dan!! There is a lot going on here! Excellent work!

1968 Dodge D800 Dump
DRIPTROIT 71 replied to DRIPTROIT 71's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Thanks Jeff! I have a little more done. I worked on the hood and got it some better. I tried my wife’s hair dryer and hot water, followed by cold water on both. I get it almost perfect, then after about a half hour it gets back closer to its previous state. It is now a lot better than it was, but still not perfect.
