  1. " Subscription Price Increase for 2019: Due to the increased cost of printing and postage, we have had to increase our subscription rates. The new rates will be in effect from January 2019 forward. For one year, it’s $30 for six issues, and $50 for two years (12 issues). " OK, this is becoming absurdly ridiculous. We have not had an issue in almost a year, and now the subscription rates are going up. There was a promise of issue #206 supposedly coming in September/October, yet have not seen or heard anything since then. I may be out of line here and possibly removed from the forum for my next comment. If the magazine is going belly-up, then tell us and stop leading us on with hollow promises. I realize management has health issues, but if he cannot continue then let us know. This magazine was one of the best in the hobby and the articles were geared toward the builder. I was a buyer for many years and finally became a subscriber in 2012, even then knowing delivery was a hit or miss proposition. So, where are we now - hit or miss?
  2. I woke up at 5:30 this morning and it is my day off. Of course I guess that could be considered sleeping in, since I normally get up at 4:00. Well, at least I will be able to get an early start at getting ready for this "winter storm" that is coming our way tonight. Which is another "irk", I hate winter storms.
  3. Outstanding build. The color choice is straight from the '50's, I remember well those colorful days.
  4. Definitely a different approach. For some reason when I saw the picture of the transmission I thought of the "Joker" from Batman.
  5. I am very proud of myself. I just walked through Hobby Lobby, picked up several kits looked at the box-art on all sides; if they were AMT checked out the parts shadow on the bottom, and left without buying any of them. Of course there are a couple of kits there that are going to make me buy them sometime in the very near future. That being said, once I get my basement back together and get my storage area set back up, I am going to divide them into "must keep with the intention of building" or "trade fodder/swap meet sales". Let's see how long that will last without moving kits around.
  6. That windshield does look much better. Keep on sanding, but don't inhale the dust. Looking forward to updates.
  7. I got one also. My X-Acto's hang alright - by the blade.
  8. Seems to be a prevalent problem, I have also had this issue.
  9. Very impressive scratchbuilding and excellent weathering effects. One beautiful build.
  10. Plymouth. But if you are asking which model kit, I am in the same dilemma. Very few of the Roadrunners and other mid-level Mopars in the local area were Hemi's or 440's.
  11. Definitely one of the more pleasing designs of Chevy truck, but I am still partial to the '69-72 body styles. The first pick-up I ever owned was a '72 C-10 long-bed with a 350, automatic, AM radio and optional rear bumper. Got a wonderful 10 mpg, until I added a Holley 650 double-pumper, Tarantula intake, and Cyclone headers, then it dropped to 8 mpg; when you nailed the throttle you could watch the gas gauge drop. Enough about that, this is turning into a great build. I really like the engine detail, looking forward to updates
  12. Excellent build. Love the theme of this build, our POW/MIA's are often put on the back burner and forgotten about.
  13. Actually I am not looking for a Chrysler V-6, that was just a tongue-in-cheek comment about the mistake on the box.
  14. Again not necessarily terrible box art, but it is rather corny. The only reason I bought it was for the "detailed 6 cylinder", I have been looking everywhere for a detailed V-6 Chrysler engine. I haven't opened the box yet, it is still sealed, just out of curiosity does this one by chance come with a leaning tower of power 6 cylinder? The bottom of the box only shows the shadow of one engine block and it looks like a "V" not an "I".
  15. Having to completely dismantle my work area in order to get my basement walls "de-leaked" I had half of the basement done just over two years ago, because that particular area was where all the rain seeped in. However, the back-to-back hurricanes this past summer showed me the other sides also leak. Hindsight sure is a butt-kicker.
  16. A local textile company has developed a clothing fabric using recycled plastic bottles. Just saying, the next shirt you buy could have been made from that bottle of soda you drank a few days ago. I do recycle as much as possible, it just seems the right thing to do. Sure wish I could figure some way to turn my leftover sprues into kit plastic.
  17. Very nice build of Harry's Monte. In my late teens (many years ago) I used to frequent Hickory Motor Speedway every Saturday night and watch Jack Ingram, Ned Setzer, Roy Trantham, and others ripping up the asphalt with their Tri-5's. One night some fellow showed up with a '64 Chevelle and set a brand new track record, he got taken out in the final. The next week Jack Ingram reset the record with his '55 Chevy, but the Chevelle moved it down another notch, and won the feature. That fellow was a young Harry Gant. He had been running Asheville-Weaverville, but decided to give Hickory a try. Within a couple of years he was running Winston Cup.
  18. Really beautiful Sedan Delivery. I like the idea of the duallys on the rear. Just noticed from that dead-on rear view it almost looks as if the top has been chopped. Nice work.
  19. Not trying to be a smart alack, but has there ever been a "factory race-only" part that did not see some street use?
  20. I must agree with this opinion. I built a stock-hauler from the Revell 1/32 Mack Pumper firetruck,. I cut the back half of the cab off, reversed and raised it to form a sleeper. I tried every trick listed here, you can see where I inserted the white styrene, the gold paint covered wonderfully.
  21. A variation on cheap flexible sanding sticks is to use the Styrofoam trays food products are packaged in. Use rubber cement, stick on whatever grit paper you want, use an X-acto handle to roll the paper flat and assure a good bond, then cut into pieces and shapes that you need. This works especially well for small triangular or spherical shapes to get into those difficult corners.
  22. Sorry, but to me that thing is atrocious. Looks like two completely different bodies have been joined together behind the doors, and those huge overlaps on the front fenders just do nothing for me. That being said, the work itself looks meticulous.
  23. From a quick search it appears the Chevelle and the GTO both had 115" wheelbases, so that should not cause any problems. I have the same issue, right now I am working on a similar, but reversed build. I am using the Revell Dodge Magnum SRT8 and building it into a roadster pick-up. A whole lot less body work than your idea, but still am bogged down. Of course, at the moment my model area is being taken apart so I can get some basement leakage problems solved.
  24. My local Michael's had only two or three models on the shelves prior to Christmas and the shelf area had been reduced drastically. When I asked the "store manager" about it, I got the typical shoulder shrug and suggested I email corporate. I did and here is their answer: " Thank you for contacting us! I apologize for the issue you are having locating models in our stores. We are currently going through a vendor transition which is why you are having issues locating product. We are working as quickly as possible to get a new vendor in and back to fully stocked shelves. If I may be of further assistance, please let me know. I'm here to help! Sincerely, Marianne Michaels Customer Care"
  25. Is that Styline kit a '61 or a '62 Ford. All I have ever seen are '61 Ford Galaxies.
