I have got to get that kit. I picked it up and looked at it in A. C. Moore just before Christmas, but didn't buy it. Hope it is still there when I get back. I owned a 68 Beetle for almost two years, you could watch the highway go by if you moved the floor mat. Had it parked in my driveway in Oklahoma and went out one morning to find someone had stolen the carburetor off it. Anyway, back to your build it is exceptional. As the others have said, with the right background it could be mistaken for a real one. Nice job.

At first I thought you were possibly building the AMT 41 Willys drag car. That one comes with scale 15" rims and 16" slicks. Glad some of the other guys have been able to offer solutions.

Definitely one nice conversion. Your weathering is very convincing. Would like to see this one in person at the CKM show this coming August. -
Don't know, mirrors would have been a nice touch - just sayin'. That aside, this is one outstanding C-Cab. Which kit did you start with, the AMT 23 T? Please give us more details, I have been planning hot-rodding a C-Cab. Thanks for sharing this one with us.

One fine execution of a early 60's style show rod. Very well developed concept and excellent build skills. Having grown up in that era, this build reminds me of some of the renditions in Rod & Custom, Car Craft, etc. Many thanks for sharing it.

Excellent build. All your work is exceptional, great conversion.

I can well understand some of these issues and I am trying to be patient. But as mentioned in an above post only one issue in 2017 is not really conducive to new subscribers or hobby shops for that matter. Even before the Golden Bell pull-out the magazine was erratic at best. I will accept whatever transcends, however I will do so with reluctance.

Good looking Plymouth. Those are definitely some serious meats under the fenders.

Beautiful truck, really like the headache rack and tiedown rails. -
Display Cabinet FINISHED!

Excellent display shelf. I have been considering different options, but never thought about IKEA. Thanks for the inspiration. -

Mighty fine looking build. That color was quite popular and in some sense still is in the SUV crowd. The only thing I see missing are a couple of french fries in the floor board. Looking forward to your custom version. -
Beautiful Ford, that color combination is quite different. The most I have seen are either black or red. Is all the external chrome BMF, Molotow pen, or something else. Either way it is some exceptional work.

Was trying to make some sense of the original build, then suddenly you begin two more builds in the same thread. Now I am completely lost as to what you are doing or trying to accomplish. If I am not mistaken those two new builds are also included in another post titled "Ford Banger" or something to that affect. Please return to the original build in this thread. I have an Allison V-12 build in the planning stage and would like to see how some others attack this much horsepower.

The Carolina Kustom Modelers puts on a really good show in August each year. It is held in a motel meeting room in Clemmons, NC. Here is their website, keep checking for updates. http://www.carolinakustommodelers.com/

Work bench ideas?
TarheelRick replied to 426 pack's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Dad had built these shelves many years ago for Mom to store canned garden goods. My wife and I still can from our garden, but not to the extent Mom did. My only problem with this set-up is the basement does get cool in the winter, and it is difficult to heat just this corner. It is not fully enclosed. -
Work bench ideas?
TarheelRick replied to 426 pack's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
When we renovated my parents house after their passing, I told the contractor to store all the interior doors in the basement. After retiring and we moved in I took those doors and built my workspace in one corner of the basement. I used some of the doors for the outside wall of my "room" and others to build my workbench. The paint bench in the foreground was built from scraps of wood I had laying around the house, many years before my work room. -

The AMT 60 Ford Starliner Custom kit has an excellent 3X2 390/406/427 engine. Very well detailed, one of AMT's best. -
Very nice T-Bird indeed. That color and wheel choice make it truly one of a kind.

"My Year In Review" Threads
TarheelRick replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Not really a great supporter of the Year in Review, but if others want to do it, then so be it. However, my only suggestion would be to limit it to no more than a couple of outside views, an interior view, and an underhood view. I am not impressed with an overabundance of different (meaning every 15 degrees of the body) views. -
Wow, that is one nice looking VW. That must be a retool from the original "Peace Sign" Beetle. I have built one of those and have another in the stash. On the first one I spent a couple of days sanding down the fender flares and the mold lines. May have to see if I can find one of these to replace the other one in the stash.

1/25 AMT '65 Lincoln Continental Customizing Kit
TarheelRick replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
How about a modified top from the AMT 61 Ford Galaxie Styline kit? -
Beautiful work and two of my favorite road racers. The VW is cool also, owned a couple in the past and really wish I had them back.

I am using a single speed Black and Decker flexshaft unit. The main motor unit is mounted under my workbench and the flexshaft is placed over the top of it. I have mine plugged into an outlet with a rheostat to control voltage going to the motor, gives me unlimited speed availability. I was told by a "professional modeler" on another now long-defunct forum the motor would burn out quickly using the rheostat. It has worked fine for at least the past 18 years. I do use it for rough grinding side trim, but mainly for hogging out wheelwells on circle track racers. I am trying to devise some way to mount the hand unit so I can use it as a cheap mini-lathe.
