The Big Boys-Large Cars
TarheelRick replied to Falcon Ranchero's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have been driving for 60 years and have driven some fairly large vehicles, of late primarily school buses. I have put them in places that I wonder how I got it in, but worse how am I going to get it out again. So far there have been no extra scratches on any of them. That being said my daily driver is a 2022 F-150 4X4 Crew Cab and I thoroughly despise parking garages. Open lots are no real picnic, but garages were not built for vehicles this long. It never fails I have to see-saw back and forth to get centered in the spot, even then the other cars are so close I can barely get my door open. Once I do get it in place the rear-end sticks out enough to make other cars have to drive around it, of course it might help if I were to remove my bumper hitch. Bigger, longer vehicles ride much better because of the length, tight handling is the trade-off. -

Beautiful little pickup, that red really sets it off. -
Amt 60 Ford Pickup

Good looking pickup, really like the roof paint detail. -
As popular as the 32 Ford chassis is for building hot rods I am surprised no one has begun 3D printing them. The distinctive side rails and K crossmember should be fairly simple to build. Some possible issues would be warpage and enough difference in scale between 1/24 and 1/25 to make maintaining inventory a problem. But I believe the market would sustain such an endeavor, what say you hot rod builders?

Really like the direction you are going with this build. It's different, a bit quirky, and just overall a wicked drag racer.

Mighty fine looking long-roof. Going to be a fun project to watch come together.

1941 Autocar U-80-T tractor

Couple of very nice looking rigs. A man had to have Popeye forearms to hog one of these through those mountains depicted in the photos. Beautiful paint work. -
Love parts box cars, they give your creativity a good boost. Really like the looks of this one. Are you going to remove that mold-line across the front fender?

Tri 5 Chevys
TarheelRick replied to Kenmojr's topic in 1:1 Reference Photos: Auto Shows, Personal vehicles (Cars and Trucks)
First car I ever owned was a '56 Chevy 150 6X3. I paid $100 for it. Body was solid, interior looked like it had been the arena for a catfight. Another one I let get away. -

Coming back from town saw a trailered 48-50 Plymouth station wagon. Two tone paint green and gold. They were going in the opposite direction so didn't get a really good look. Found a picture from the auction: -
You are making me want to get my '51 Convert back on the table. It is sectioned, would have been a piece of cake if I could cut straight. Anyway a thought for taillights, maybe use the custom units from the '57 Chevy truck fenders in the '53 Ford Pickup kit.

That is an excellent solution to a problem I experienced several months ago and will probably experience again in the future. Only issue I see is how do you keep from losing the pin, the spring, or for that matter the whole assembly. Anyway, thanks for the idea I will probably try to assemble a couple of them using brass.

brake lines and detail tubing
TarheelRick replied to Gil Riley's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Rummage through the Jewelry aisle of Hobby Lobby, they have quite a selection of different styles and sizes of wire and some tubing. -
Just tried it again and everything worked as advertised. Of course, I used my laptop this time and not my normal desktop, maybe that could be part of the issue.

I have a pegboard wall above my workbench. When I built it I attached some 1'X1' wood strips to the wall so I would have clearance behind the pegboard for the hangers. Harbor Freight has a package with several different selections of hangers. I have my evergreen still in the packages hanging on the board along with different styles and colors of wire, resin parts, and many other items. My board is about a 4"X6" foot section.

Still shows the Model Cars Magazine page. When I paste the above threads in the reply box, they do in fact turn to photos, but when I hit the submit button the Model Cars Magazine page appears. I also tried selecting "Choose folder", pasting the threads in that position, the pictures appeared in the boxes below my thread, yet when I hit submit got the same result.

There is a dragstrip in Troutman at Trax Hobbies.
