This starts as an irk, but overall, is a positive. Things just work out sometimes. So my boy is 19, and has been driving my '99 Tahoe for a couple of years now. He needed something reliable to get back and forth to college, get to work, etc; so the Tahoe basically became his. Well, typical teenager in his own world, he neglected to mention a few things when I took it to do an oil change last week. Like how the instrument cluster doesn't work. How long has this been going on? "I don't know, a month or so maybe?" Plus when I drove it to the shop, it seemed sluggish and the trans wasn't shifting. Oh great. So I'm expecting bad things, like needing a transmission replacement. Turns out, a new ignition switch fixed literally all of the cluster and transmission issues. However, the inspection the shop did found that the front and rear brakes are finished, and that most of the front end needs replacing. Plus one O2 sensor is faulty. And I need to replace some body parts from when he tagged a parkade wall in the winter. And it is developing a little rust in the usual areas. All told, looking at some big repair bills. The shop quoted $4k CDN for the suspension and brakes. Yeah, no. Cue the positives now. However, we just took in a pretty sweet trade on a new Explorer. And after checking it out and discussing with our GSM, I bought it for $750 CDN. 2004 Lincoln Aviator Ultimate. Pearl white, grey leather, heated/vented seats, moonroof, rear buckets, 4.6L V8, basically everything but navigation. Higher km, but we have every service record since day 1, and it is very well maintained. Everything works, no leaks, no weird noises, no weird smells, no accidents, no rust. Recent service included brakes and some suspension bushings, plus every fluid front to back. Interior is pretty much mint. Has a couple of scratches, but nothing major. Previous owner was OCD about maintenance, which I appreciate! I just need to put a windshield in it. And probably a new head unit with bluetooth. So the boy will drive that while I slowly tackle the Tahoe. Body work and brakes I can do. Will get a shop to handle the front end. Even with doing a lot of it myself, the repairs will still be 3X the cost of the Lincoln! Here's a couple of pics, in "as traded" condition. I'll be detailing it this weekend. Currently 35 degrees Celcius though, so I'm not going to spend much time working outdoors this week!

Nope, nope nope. There's no way this topic could be discussed without politics entering.

Having ordered those over the years, that is National Forestry Service Green. Special order colour for customers with a fleet code with GM, Ram, or Ford. No extra charge, just check the box when ordering. Typically on GM trucks, it was only available on the most basic of trim levels. Either the WT (work truck) trim as you pictured, and in later years, the Chev Base and LS trim, and GMC base and SL trims. As they were work trim levels, you almost never see these trucks with alloy wheels, carpet, power windows/mirrors/locks, CD players, etc. I'm actually kind of surprised that truck pictured has chrome bumpers. I'd drive that truck all day long. I like the base models, and I LOVE what I call crayon colours on vehicles. -
That is pretty awesome! The shag you found is perfect.

Organizing Aftermarket parts
iamsuperdan replied to iBorg's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I use a bunch of these small plastic dog food containers. Each one is the perfect size to hold an engine/trans, or a set of wheels/tires. Since I started 3D printing, I use a lot of these to keep everything organized. -

Wild Hoss Bronco

Motobas over on Cults3D. He has some amazing engine files. -
Agreed. I dislike reading digital copies. Would much rather sit and hold a magazine or a book than my laptop or phone. No kidding. A couple of years ago, I sold my copies of Guitar World, Guitar For The Practicing Musician, and other guitar mags. Literally 30 years of subscriptions. I had boxes upon boxes of magazines that I simply never touched. Kept a couple of key issues, but ditched the rest. Made a ridiculous amount of space!

Shapeways 3D Printing
iamsuperdan replied to Warren D's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Doesn't surprise me. I bought many parts there in the past, but now that 3d printers are affordable and easily accessible, the Shapeways business model just seemed antiquated. Kind of like Blockbuster video. Maybe if they had become more like Cults 3D or CG Trader, they could have survived. -

Awesome magazine, but pricey.

So if you haven't seen, there's an OBS Build off down in the Community Builds section. As there's no deadline to finish, I might actually get this one done! This is one part of the project I have planned. Starting life as the old AMT 454SS kit. I like that this is molded in that grey/white plastic and not black. I started by shaving off all of the moldings from the sides and front bumper. Then I cut out the rear wheel arches, as my tires will be significantly wider than stock. The fronts fit just fine. I little more shaping and cleanup required, but the wheels fit now. And had to mock up a couple of things. Looking good, but a long way to go.

I'll be starting a thread for this one shortly. Managed to start shaving the trim off the body. Did some mocking up too. It's coming along as planned.

Good news! I started printing some of the parts I'll need for this. And I've figured out the engine situation. It's weird for sure.

I've been a long time Porsche fan. And I love the 928, but depending on the year and condition, these can be 6-figure cars...or scrap. If it's an early model (pre-86) and the engine has failed, then it's pretty much junk. Might as well do something interesting with it, to keep it from the junkyard.

Any new info on the Moebius '67/'68 Chevy pickups?
iamsuperdan replied to Can-Con's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Uh oh, you've posted a pic of something. Now people will be getting all judgmental on something that isn't the finished product. Where's my popcorn... -
Found this over the weekend at a community garage sale. $10 CDN, factory sealed. And of course, I tore right into it to check it out.

That's all paint, not a wrap. This Bronco was grey and bone stock a few weeks ago when he picked it up.
