Imagine if you will... You're a burglar. A good one. But you only steal things that slightly inconvenience your victims. What are you stealing?

Create what you want, regardless of accuracy.

Even with no paint, that looks really good. I'm just glad it wasn't molded in red or yellow. -

I like it! Roof chop is subtle, but works great. -
It is now.

Yesterday morning, saw some roadcrews replacing a light post on a highway offramp. Someone was driving a little too fast for conditions, and failed to negotiate the curve. This morning I watched a green Hyundai slide off the road and take out the same light post. So not even 24 hours later. I chuckled.

I missed it too! Further discussion on page 7 in that thread.

Odds & Ends you'd Like to See
iamsuperdan replied to Calb56's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Most of the decals I've made have been put on white trucks, so colours looked accurate. On darker colours, printing on white decal paper works fine. You just need to be more precise when trimming the decal from the sheet. When I decide on a logo or whatever that I want to print, I just look for the highest resolution image I can find and use that. Once it's scaled down to fit a 1/24 or 1/25 body, it looks good. Yes, a bit of guesswork when sizing, but if you have a full A4 sheet of decal paper to work with, you can size and print several options, then pick the size that works best. Some definite limitations, but it's inexpensive and works well. -

Just make your own! Pack of decal paper from Amazon and your inkjet printer. And you don't need a fancy program. Microsoft Paint or even Word works just fine to set them up. The only downside so far is that you can't print white or metallics. -
I came VERY close to spending way too much for one on many occasions, but managed to stop myself. Now it's the Tamiya Volvos that I'm dangerously close to buying.

Whoops! You are correct! I think I saw the bike conversation and just kind of glazed over.

I haven't seen any mention of this one yet, but I am SUPER stoked about the re-release of this. I've been looking for reasonably priced versions of this kit for years, to no avail. Will be grabbing a few of these.

100% agree. His show would be perfect on the Motortrend channel. I have to think he's known about the cancellation for a while, and has probably talked with a couple of potential new homes for this show. Hopefully. -
2021 GMC 2500
iamsuperdan replied to zaina's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
So far, it's been limited success. I tried printing with clear resin, but I didn't like the results Not really clear at all. I've tried printing the glass with normally resin, and then using that almost like a mold. Heat up some clear Evergreen sheets and try to form it over the prints. Again, not really working well. Not sure what my next step will be. -
That's an awesome setup! If that was local, you'd currently get more than you paid for it when new. Not sure about current US market though.

Very cool! Is this one of Andrey's designs? I've done a couple of his trucks, and they're excellent. How are you doing the glass? -

Just finished my first diorama! Asbury, NJ streets!

Wow, that is really nice. Can you give some details on how you got the pavement finish? Very convincing! -
I've tried a few different settings in Chitubox. The medium supports seem to be the easiest for me. I can check tonight and see what the exact settings are. You also have to be aware of part thickness if you're scaling things down to your preferred scale. I've run into that a few times. Things designed for 1/10 don't necessarily work when converted to 1/24.

I actually don't like changing vehicles. Being a vehicle gypsy annoys me. But if I can make a little money on them, then I will take advantage. In a lot of ways, I prefer my old Chevs. But the 95 K1500 isn't on the road right now, and my son has commandeered the 99 Tahoe. Wifey's Volvo was bought new in 2006. Now has 320,000km on it. Going strong, and she's only now starting to hint that it might be time to replace it.

Yeah, another F150. This time a 2023 with the 5.0L. We don't see many issues at all with the 5.0L. Although, I have a customer that runs a bunch as pilot trucks. He says the 5.0L are terrible because when they get to around 700-800,000km (call it 450k miles) they start to tick. ? The small Power Stroke diesels in the F150s were a real problem. Constantly in for warranty work, regardless of mileage. Glad they cancelled that engine.

Tamiya have a "smoke" spray paint, which is like a translucent black. Light coats of that until you reach your desired darkness. And depending on how involved you want to get, your local auto parts store would have those DIY window tint kits. The material is pretty thin, so some of that might work. And I assume would last a heck of a long time when using it for 1/24 or 1/25 scale!

Yeah, I have a numbered company and a fleet code with a couple of manufacturers, so get some pretty decent pricing. And with the market is nuts as it is right now, there is money to be made with lightly used trucks. I normally keep trucks for 6 months to a year, but this coming truck will be number 4 in the last 12 months. I'm thinking this next one will stick around a while though.
