All New Meng 1/12 1988 McLaren MP4/4
iamsuperdan replied to Justin Porter's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Great. Now I'm interested in a large scale kit. I don't need more kits. Or do I? -

And to think how excited we get when a small box of plastic shows up in our mailbox. Imagine when your entire house shows up as a model kit! I wonder what I would do with the sprues. Hmm...?

Actually, if you dive just a smidge deeper, you'll read that this was a CNG station, not an EV charging station. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/factcheck/2023/04/06/fact-check-video-shows-exploding-natural-gas-car-not-ev/11597329002/ But nice try.

My 2 cents, for what it's worth. I think AMT/Round 2 are doing a very good job with what they have. But I think they can do better. When they choose to do a new tool, it's on par with Tamiya. That newer release International 4070A was a dream to build. But, AMT does a lot of older subject matter, based on molds that are decades old. Quite often, these kits needs a significant amount of cleanup during the build process, and some of the details have faded over time, and the instructions are really vague. But, they have some very interesting subject matter, and as long as you go in with the right expectations, the kits are actually quite good. And one look around here at some of the builds will show you just how good these kits can look. Having said that, new tools aren't cheap, and I'm not sure what Round 2's budget is for new kits and new tools. They do seem to be introducing a lot of new tooling and new kits these days, so I think it's looking pretty good.

Another resin 3D printer question
iamsuperdan replied to V8tiger's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I have an Elegoo Mars 2 Pro, and it's been awesome and trouble-free. However, I'll be upgrading because the build area just isn't large enough to support car bodies. For wheels & tires, engines, and other parts it has been excellent and easy to use. Make sure you read this thread. Lots of good info. -
The Official EBay Discussion Thread
iamsuperdan replied to iamsuperdan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I try to snipe when bidding. I wonder though if EBay will ever do what other sites do to prevent it. Bring A Trailer for example. If a bid goes in right at the end of an auction, they add 2 minutes of auction time to that last bid. And if some one bids within that two minutes, they add two more minutes from THAT bid. And so on. I've seen auctions last for quite a while after it was supposed to have ended. -

Really nice work! The lights were a great decision. -
What do you drive?
iamsuperdan replied to gasman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
So... I did a thing. 2022 Mach-E GT in Shadow Black Full front end PPF and a light tint on the front door windows. Did a proper clean and a ceramic coat today. Should be a fun daily. Truck is going to feel neglected. Better make some Home Depot plans for the weekends so its not feeling too ignored. -
Best Adhesive for Windscreens?
iamsuperdan replied to Bugatti Fan's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I've seen people use it with a small brush, and it's way too much in my opinion. But if it works for them, then it's all good. Just a little bit on a toothpick holds everything in place. And the toothpick can get into the little cracks and crevices. -

Looking good! -
You're right! Clearcoating some of those parts that normally wouldn't get cleared definitely helps keep those details safe! I also find using a matte clear gives engine bays a little more realism, as not everything is always shiny under there.

I've been pretty happy with the Micro Krystal Klear. -
Great looking build!

I printed those same wheels! Not because I'm a huge KB fan, but because they're just a nice design. no idea what I'll use them for though. I'm digging your e-tron in white.

My procedure went well and I'm home resting. I don't think I mentioned it around here much. But 3 years ago I had brain surgery. 8 hour procedure to remove a golfball-sized acoustic neuroma. translabyrinthine surgery. Was in hospital for a week, then two months off work for recovery and physio. Every 6 months since, I get an MRI done. Well, last September, the MRI turned up something. The remnants of my AN had grown slightly, so something needed to be done. Had a couple of consults with the neurosurgeon, and the end result was that yesterday I went in had had the Gamma Knife procedure done. Bolted my head into a metal frame, MRI done, consult and math between two teams in two hospitals, then the gamma knife. Home by supper. Now resting for a couple of days and back to work on Monday. Feeling tired (but not sleepy) and have a sore head, mainly from the screws. All normal side effects. Another MRI booked for next September. Pre-procedure

Web-based music streaming services
iamsuperdan replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I use two. Spotify of course being the big one. I pay for the Premium tier, and I love it. I rarely listen to anything else when driving. Unlimited playlists, and I almost never get stumped when searching for artists I like. The other is Gimme Metal. www.gimmemetal.com It's free, and it's all metal. I still have my SiriusXM subscriptions for home and in my old Tahoe. There are a few stations we like . And I can stream it through the app as well. And I still buy CDs. -
A new . . . . Hornet?!

Nah, as long as they keep pumping out Ram trucks and Jeeps, Stellantis won't be going anywhere anytime soon. -

Yup! It was a lot easier and a lot cheaper for GM to license the Toyota Matric and slap a Pontiac badge on it, than it would have be to design a compact car that could compete with Toyota or Honda. Might as well rebadge the leader! Anyway... 285hp Turbo 4-cylinder hybrid all-wheel drive Brembo brakes Koni suspension 20" wheels 14-speaker Harmon Kardon stereo with Android Auto Alcantara & leather interior heated seats, heated steering wheel LED headlights That sounds pretty good to me. -
