If they are separate pieces, gloss clear what needs to be gloss and matte clear what needs to be matte. If one piece, I would mask off and do the matte finish first. Then, after you allow ample time to dry, mask the matte finished area and spray the gloss clear. I am sure others have different ways of doing it. You could find a scrap body or hood, gloss the whole thing and then matte over a portion to see if it gives you the look you are shooting for.

I like the way you think. I painted one the same color.

It is a slide for adding/subtracting feet and inches, down to 1/8 of an inch.

Just a reminder for everyone. This thread is for automotive model related items. There are other threads in the Off-Topic area for other types of models and non-model related items.

I generally leave questions, that should be asked elsewhere, in the General section for a day or so before I move them. This gives the question a chance to be seen by a few more folks. Sometimes I forget to go back and move them. You can always use the report post function if you think something is in the wrong spot. No one will hold it against you. If you have questions about a specific kit or part, it should more than likely be in the Q&A section. Questions about modeling techniques should be in the Q&A or How-To sections. "General" questions about models, model companies, style of cars and the like can usually stay in the General section. When in doubt, you can put it in General and the mods will move it, if needed. All we ask is that you try to put it where it goes first. Don't just put everything in General for others to sort out.

Check down in the Q&A section. David has a thread there with the parts in question.

These were imported from Germany and cost $19.95 in the late 80's. I finally wore my original one out a few years ago and tried to find a new one. Several went for over $200 on eBay. I waited and finally came across one that was lightly used for less than $50. I can add/subtract a string of maybe 4 dimensions in my head, but this comes in handy when figuring 20-30 dimensions over a 200' run of pipe. There are calculators that do the same thing, but they feel unnatural when I try to use them.

I design fire sprinkler systems for buildings and deal in feet and inches all day. I regularly use one of these. The younger guys that work here do not know what it is, let alone know how to use it.

This will be the one and only warning to get back on topic. We are not going to reorganize the entire site because a few folks have a different definition of what a truck is.

It is supposed to be unlimited photo posting, but it may have reset during maintenance. I will bring this to Dav's attention. I use Fotki and rarely upload directly to the site. Even though it is supposed to be unlimited, common sense tells me that there has to be a limit to what the server hosting company will allow before they start charging for additional space.

I think Tom's problem was the same as mine, the calculator we had to use. Mine came up one digit short, so I could only input 16,055,459. That is why I went to the search bar to get my answer.

You can type basic math problems into your search bar and it should provide the answer. Just tried it with Bing and it worked.

Private messages and the poll function are not related. The poll function does appear to be broken and Dave will need to look into it on the admin side. Private messages can fail to go through if the inbox is full, the member is "ignoring" you and I believe there is a way to turn it off completely under the notifications settings.

I tried to open a "Test Poll" and could not get it to work. Hopefully Dave can look into this and see what is wrong.

I got that email yesterday but it was for the Tower Hobbies side of things. -
Mufflers on them noisey 4 bangers ?
Xingu replied to rel14's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Mufflers are generally one of the cheaper things to change on a car, so of course the kids are going to do it. Once they get a real job they will take them off and put their money towards giant turbos that stick out of the hood. Every generation has some cheap/obscene mod they like to do. Unfortunately, we have to hear this current trend. It does seem like it is dying down though. -
While this thread went off the rails very early, it does contain a lot of useful information. A reminder to everyone, keep it clean and respectful.

Why do people dig up these old threads???
Xingu replied to Force's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Most of Harry's build threads and tutorials are over 2 years old. Are you saying they should be deleted? There is a lot of valuable information in many of the old threads. Even if the photos are missing there is good info in the descriptions. They aren't all gold mines, but that is no reason to discriminate against the old threads. Many of the old threads resurface because they show up in searches initiated from this forum while the newer ones are often overlooked. This software has a poor search function. The funny thing is, if we had a computer problem and lost a bunch of the old information, many folks would be complaining and saying how irresponsible we were for not backing up all the old data so that it wasn't lost. You can always back out of a thread and start over if you find that it isn't your cup of tea. -
Mine was also on the plastic wrap. Maybe it has to do with International shipping.

You can also get "Ready To Airbrush" paint. That takes the mixing out of the equation, but you may not be able to get the exact color you are looking for.

Well, it is clearly built as a show car. It probably runs, but looks to be extremely unsafe to take down the track (poor vision). Extreme show cars can sometimes be used as test mules for engineering ideas. Perhaps someone will see a better way to do something from this car. What that might be, I have no idea.

Very nice JC. All of that work has really paid off.
