Famous last words: "... the major construction is done! " After reading the Silverstate rules, *had to* build a roll cage. First time I have done this, guess it's okay. Also started on the windshield, ground/sanded off the cast-on wiper; glued in aluminum windshield retainer clips (that are hidden, just so I don't have to glue it in). Found the almost perfect wiper in the parts box, it's just reversed, should be easy to flip and add a tiny rubber blade. The windshield has some dip on the inside where the wiper was, but the "real" one should distract from that. It's been a constant battle of testing for interference when new parts are added, talked too soon about doors working, conflict with roll bar and other aspects made it a pain. The cage was actually sort of fun to build. Found a MINI Cooper instrument gauge to add, still need to make the parking brake. Laid out 90% of the parts, at least what have been worked on. Then I wet-sanded the body. PAINT!!! Now the fun begins! Sprayed the body with Testors white primer, knowing it was going to be fixed and sanded more for another primer coat. Always frustrating to think I got everything, then soon as paint hits it's "oh I missed a spot ..... oh another ..... and another." I'm contemplating what color, have a collection of cool nail 'polish', test samples on white cardboard, the light blue is similar to the rendering on the first page of this WIP.

Thank you! I got the idea for making this an entry for the Silver State Classic Challenge, requested a PDF of their door number "plate". Hope I can, that would be the place to run this car. (linked to the forum with the email)

Pleased to say, that the major construction is done! I have small details to do, but I could sand and start painting. These are the best opening doors I've ever done. Managed to duplicate the second one in reverse close enough for government work. I've glued so many pieces together, it looks like a Chinese puzzle. I've glued in little blocks, so it practically snaps together.

Forum Software Upgrade -- Failed

I feel your pain! I'm a techno grouch to begin with, so good thing I'm not involved. Thank you for your dedication. Be glad you aren't running Flickr. So happens they needed to upgrade too! -
What are you doing during the upgrade?

You're killing me! Had the monthly model club meeting, I represented the car community, as always. I also worked on Porndy. -

Rust Box of Doom Chevy Wagon '57 Drag Week 2018
89AKurt replied to Reuhkapelti2's topic in WIP: Model Cars
One of my favorite subjects! I owned a '57 4 door 210 station wagon last century. I have an old Revell glue bomb, and the Monogram kit, last year got the resin body which is a really crude copy of a die cast. Yes the roof is longer. The rear slope is not as steep either. No recessed lines across the top. It was fun to own, but got tired of hearing people say "nice Nomad" when it's the bottom of the totem pole of collectibility, and I could not sneak around. -

Thanks for the warning! Yea, I'm in possessed/obsessed mode with the PORNDY project. Downloading pictures has been working fine BTW. -
Yes, I think that all the time. When I contemplated redoing the scoop intakes using left over Modena scoops, I stopped because it was morphing into a Dino (not a bad thing). Yea, insane at times. Cut out the other door. This time I glued in some steel screen (can't really see it here) at a critical area to prevent the lower panel from separating from the body. Also refined the wing support. Making the door jamb, using up the other rear wing for this. I was thinking of keeping the fuel filler in the original location, but after making the underside elbow thing, have decided it needs to be re-located in the center of the hood (where the body mount is would fix that sink mark).

3D Printed wheel from HRE
89AKurt replied to Richard Bartrop's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Wow, that's really high tech! Basically laser welding a pile of titanium dust. -
Awesome workmanship! I like the auxiliary lights, much smaller size than rally style.

DITTO! How do you "print" titanium? I can see machining it, but not squirting it out like with plastic. -
Big whoop time today, added a steel brace so the engine cover would match the cabin. Used the caliper to get the dimension, made a wood spreader, the super-dooper-glued in the wiper blade steel brace.

Revell Chevy Luv Machine #H-1300 (fixed photos, 1/27/16)

Thanks for leading me here. I inherited a '72 LUV, my dad's father had traded in his '57 Chevy Handyman wagon that he bought new, for it. (don't get me going about that) It broke down on a monthly basis when I attended trade school in Phoenix. I've been wanting to build most of the vehicles I've owned, and parents owned, and this is NOT one I would waste my time on. -
My first vehicle was a '72 "Chevy" LUV (rebadged Isuzu), it was a POS but the size was good. Currently own a '68 Chevy pickup, which is smaller than any Nissan, Toyota of today. Everything is bigger now, except Smart cars.

The Longest VOLVO ( F-12 )

Love it! Are those railroad bolts? Very impressive craftsmanship. I have two truck kits for someday projects, they are race versions, need to have a different frame of mind to work on them. Have you ever thought of doing windmill blade transporters, those are even longer. -

Good, thanks! Managed to make a working rear wing. I should have tilted the hydraulic ram, but needed the length, so had to make the front hinge complicated. Made numerous parts before getting right. Test fit with wire, works good, but needs tightening up. In full stop mode: Speedway mode: Ordered these via eBay from Hong Kong, arrived before I expected! Too bad the least number of emblems are Porsche, I already have Ferrari coming out of my ears. Have a problem that is creeping in, the engine body is shrinking inward, now have a nasty mismatch with the cabin, may need to glue in a steel brace that can spring it back out.

Porsche emblems (and some other makes too) for my current project. Got off eBay, from Hong Kong, arrived before expected.
