  1. Well, this topic only shows that it takes me forever to get anything done. This sat for two years! I just wasn't motivated to work on this, even though the owner was willing to pay. So I handed it off to a model club member who needed money more than me, and he pulled it off. The big PITA was parts that would not come off, so lots of masking was involved. I told him to lightly wet sand the paint with fine grit emory cloth. What we both found out, it's like handling a brick, I had to make a wood jig to hold the body, and doors, for painting. So he got 95% of it done, I made the mirror like what the owner had on his car. Corian® was turned on the drill press. Made the mount from fat sprue. Painted with Alclad chrome, which matches what the model chrome is. The owner has it on a shelf up high, so it wasn't important to have a perfect finish on it, he is happy.
  2. until really needed
  3. Nice variety of subjects. Guess what I'm partial too?
  4. Cool to see phantom designs come to life. That's awesome you can produce so many.
  5. Yes. I usually do that on builds I'm not totally happy with.
  6. connection buried deep
  7. Looks really good! I got a small kit collection this year, the Revell kit with the black plastic was included, looking over the parts it looks like it's detailed. You like how the engine went together?
  8. Nice variety! The Bugatti Royal sure is different; I have one that's been on the shelf of doom for a very long time.
  9. All of them are nice. Old Yeller stands out for me.
  10. Very nice work! I like the settings too.
  11. The Bronco is a nice hero build.
  12. Like several others, we may not be into motorcycles, but I appreciate the workmanship on the BMW, all the carbon-fiber looks awesome. I'm in the same boat regarding work being the mojo vacuum.
  13. You have good taste in subjects, and colors. I'm also jealous, time waits for nobody. ?
  14. Steve raises the bar, if you're only going to finish one, it better be killer!
  15. Quality trumps quantity, love both of them!
  16. Well, this is embarrassing. ? I've been in a funk about models this year, too busy with work which sucks up all my creative energy. Thanks to this forum, I managed to build the Cannonball 190SL. This month I picked two really easy kits to start and FINISH. I also got inspired to dig out my model rocket stuff, restored 3 built rocket recovery systems, and built 3 versions of the Estes Mosquito. The first one was lost the day after I finished it, too big a motor. Will be getting proper sized motors (wimpy) to launch these. Painted with nail 'polish', and Testors fluorescent paint. I shouldn't complain about work, it's how I can afford to get the models and supplies, just need to have a balance.
  17. The WIP topic This is a dash to actually FINISH a model before the year ends, just to add to my pathetic count. ? Picked this simple curbside, which had more decals than I wanted to deal with, but mission accomplished. Painted with nail 'polish'. Don't look too close, it took only 22.25 hours, and it shows. Built the CR-X convertible years ago. Not only chopping the top, but it's also LHD. Also painted with nail 'polish'. The Civic was started last century, sat in the box for a very long time, finished a few years ago. So I didn't wish to start a project that was doomed.
  18. Thanks! That's the reason I didn't back in the day. I built the other CR-X kit, and did major surgery to it, such as the LHD dash. And making it a convertible. Detailed the door panels. Made flush headlights. Also painted with nail 'polish'. To do the kit justice, it requires a bunch of work.
  19. Well, I lied about polishing. ? I did just the roof, hood, and above the belt line on the sides. I kept telling myself 'not a contest model'. Something that is annoying, the rear window appeared to have a crack, but I happened to have the left over window from my CR-X convertible, and found that there was a mold blemish, all these kits will have this defect. (the camera couldn't pick it up) The red stripe worked out okay, used a balsa stick to get it into the groove, so it's just a little marked up. Bare-Metal foil just for the headlights, painted silver for the other lights. Messed up the gloss black between the taillights, sanded next day and sprayed again. In my rush, forgot to draw the black pen in the panel lines at the primer stage, it looks better to have the color painted over it, but it's done. Even though I hate brush painting, did the window trim, and got a nice fuzzy look to it, for real projects I would mask and airbrush. Didn't bother taking pictures of each step after this point. Painted the lights with Tamiya clear enamel, this is still a pet peeve of these kits. That roof vent sure is a funky detail. I know the red background on the Honda badge isn't period correct, but I think it's cool and think they would have done it back then if they thought of it. ? Undecided about weathering it a little. Spent only 22.25 hours whipping this together. BTW: Was thinking one reason I wasn't motivated to build, the light I had recently installed is a circular florescent bulb with the magnifying glass, it just isn't bright. So I shopped at Office Max, and Staples, figured an LED type of bulb would be better, looked for the brightest lumen number and design that I could stand, and bought this Bosch unit. Much happier now. I couldn't believe all the variety of stupid lights there are.
  20. Not much progress, had something else to do with my daughter. ? Just the decals on the doors, and Scale Motorsport upholstery decals. Can someone tell me if Scale Motorsport decal solution actually works? I didn't see anything happen, so used Solv-a-set, which ended up melting one seat at the creases. Sprayed Dullcote on the seats, and Scale Finishes gloss clear. I just wet-sanded the body with the first grit of emory cloth in the Detail Master polishing kit, and sprayed a thicker coat of clear, I'm not into doing the whole polishing routine on this project.
  21. I know right? I shouldn't complain, but work has been more nuts than ever for me this year, which has sucked all the creative energy out of me. It's one of 4 WIP that are collecting dust. I started a super simple curbside just to say I finished a model this year, Tamiya - Honda Ballade Sports Mugen CR-X Pro.
  22. Dang it, did I miss entering my project? I haven't been active on the forum. It's the only car I finished this year (pending current CR-X). 1961 Mercedes Benz 190 SL (Revell 1960) Cannonball
  23. Got most of the painting done. Pearl white on the body, aluminum engine and back of wheels, gloss white center of seats where the decal will go, polished aluminum exhaust. Chassis is assembled. Interior mostly done, the seats will take some time. Self adhesive black carpet makes an awesome contrast for the photo-etch pedals. Added gauge decals to the pod on the dash.
  24. Days of Our Lives drama can take a quick exit!
