David, you are definitely one of the most methodical, and patient modellers on this board. Always a planned approach, and always able to fix the problems either you, or the kit manufacturer created! Nice work as always sir. Stance looks ?

Yep! Absolutely gorgeous indeed! Glad you overcame the paint issue you had. Looks killer now.

What clear over tire lettering decals
Steve H replied to Steve H's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Just thought I would share the results. It may, or may not be helpful to others. Here is the how they look: First with gloss clear and decals: Then after being toned down considerably, one mist coat, one medium coat of the Mr Hobby super smooth matte clear: The decals are NOT perfect, but overall I think it looks decent. The sheen is just about exactly what I wanted. -
Whoa… That’s really nice! I absolutely love that colour on it. The add on speakers, and stance adjustment are spot on. Very clean build Keith, and as Snake would have said, “model on”. Cheers, Steve

Another very nice build Craig. In particular, I like the added detail under the hood. Just recently received an order from both MAD and fireball, beautiful products. -

What clear over tire lettering decals
Steve H replied to Steve H's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Sorry for the delay in replying here guys. I appreciate all the input and information. Pics of the results will be posted here when fully completed. I used a bit of a combination of some of the replies, and actually had success on the first practice run, so that’s what I’m going with. I liked David’s (espo) approach, and I like Mr Hobby clears. So I used Mr Hobby gloss clear, then decals, waiting for those to dry overnight, then Mr Hobby super smooth matte clear. My test gave enough sheen, not too “armourally” (new word?), but a clean, recently wiped with 303 protectant sort of look. All of the tread sanding had already been done, and tires are “flat spotted” to give the car some weight. Keith (shoopdog) made a very important point regarding handling to avoid any cracking after decals and paint. All of your input was valuable, in the end it was a combination of espo, fat Brian, can con, and shoopdog’s replies that I used. Now hopefully I don’t mess up the matte clear tomorrow…. -

Very nice. I too like the straight 6, seems a perfect choice for the subject. That colour is outstanding! May have pick up a can of that. -
What clear over tire lettering decals
Steve H posted a topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Hi all, I’m typically a “no white lettering on the tires” kind of guy, black walls all the way. I’m building a Revell 71 Olds and will be using the kit supplied decals for the lettering. I definitely think I need to “seal” the decals. So… matte clear, semi gloss, or gloss. I will do a test or 2 but any advice here would be appreciated. Specifically, how does paint react with kit tires? I have no idea ??♂️. The photo is about the sheen I’m aiming for. My initial thought is probably semi gloss. Thanks in advance for any advice, feedback and suggestions. -
This beast is waaaayyyy cool. Love the colour combo. Very nice clean build, of a really cool subject Brian, well done.?

1967 BEAUMONT Station Wagon Conversion

Very nice work and awesome attention to detail Dave! The door cards look fantastic, as does the roof rack. I might have to crack open the piggy bank and buy some Revell chrome, looks quite effective. Definitely some excellent reference here for when I replicate my 1:1 67 Beaumont. The photo that shows the back of your 2door HT got my heart pounding. Cheers, Steve -

Thanks DA. Inching towards the finish line slowly but surely. It has been fun pushing myself a bit with the details. I will add a bit more under the hood, but not going to get too carried away. Thanks for checking in. -

Hi all, time for a long overdue update and a quick explanation. It has been an emotional and difficult 10 weeks. My mom had a fall and has been in the hospital for 10 weeks. On April 13th my wife’s father passed away. With that, Wayne and I lost our father in law. He was an amazing man, and is dearly missed by all that knew him. I don’t generally share too much “personal” stuff on the forum here, but wanted to acknowledge my father in laws passing here as he was a big part of my life, and even more so to Wayne. I have been building this in secret to keep it a surprise for Wayne, I really wanted Ron to see it…. Dang… RIP Ron, we miss you. With all that said, I do have some progress to share. The real car is silver as you have seen. I wanted to get close to the factory colour, but was also trying to avoid using an air brush. Well, I think I painted about 30 spoons, but finally came up with a recipe that I believe is really close. The first two photos are Wayne’s car, and you can see how much the paint changes colour in direct light. There is quite a bit of white in the colour. So… here’s the recipe: grey primer, mica silver (3 coats), pearl white (2 coats), pearl clear (one mist coat), gloss clear (3 coats) All Tamiya except the final clear which is Mr Hobby. Tamiya’s pearl white is quite transparent, I knew that, and it worked in my favour here to lighten up the silver, and add a slight shade of white. Wayne’s car: before clear: After decals, foil, and clear. The first indoor shots aren’t great so I took a couple outside as well. I will let this cure for a week or 2, then polish it out. The colour isn’t “perfect” but I think it will be close. ?? Should have more to show in a week or so. As always, thanks for having a look, and all comments are welcome. -

I do peak over here once in a while. You “truck guys” do a lot of beautiful work. Not sure if you would remember, but a few years back I built a phantom 66 Olds el Camino. Your beautiful 72 Olds el Camino build was a perfect reference, and I used a similar approach for my build. I thanked you then, and I thank you again now. I know when I eventually get around to the rig build that I will be in very good hands over here. Good luck with the wheels. Cheers, Steve -

Hi Jeff! I’m not normally over here in the rig section, made a wrong turn somewhere maybe? Great looking build you have going here. I have a few rigs in the que, but will be a bit before I get to them. I’ll definitely need some help once I get going! A suggestion for “toning down” the chrome on the wheels, I use one or 2 LIGHT coats of Tamiya smoke. The key is light coats, and make sure the paint is warm. Just a thought, if it’s not too late. The other option might be flat clear for a more “aluminum” look. Cheers, Steve -

Hi Joe, welcome to the forum! Thanks for taking the time to look through the build. It’s always rewarding to think that my builds might give someone ideas. I have certainly been inspired by, and learned from, so many here on this forum. Should have an update in the next couple of days. Steve -
I haven’t been on the board for a while. Very sad to hear about Snake’s passing. I didn’t have many exchanges with him, but I certainly enjoyed reading his posts. Seemed like a “top shelf” guy to me. He certainly had a huge presence on this forum. I know for sure that he will be missed here. RIP Snake, and “model on”
