  1. For the small amount of filler I mix at a time I'm using about a dime-size dollop of putty and a pencil lead size helping of hardener. It doesn't take much. Like Peteski said, the hardener is in a smaller tube so you get an idea of the proportion.
  2. Wow! That is phenomenal. I thought I was looking at a picture of the real car because you mentioned having seen it in the museum... I scrolled down looking for your model. Nicely done!
  3. Another west-coaster here. Yesterday was a half shop & half hobby room day for me with a lot accomplished on a cold, wet day. I'm enjoying watching your wagon come along. Very cool.
  4. Thanks guys! I had no idea those were Royal Lancer hub caps. I really appreciate the information and I will look those up. I need to get more educated on custom model parts suppliers. I have other pictures of the car with different hub caps, including ~ '55 Buick hub caps. Even some showing the car painted orange. He told me that the cops in a town ran him out and told him never to come back. So he painted the car orange and went back. it looked a lot better in green, I thought. Funny story though.
  5. Thank you for the information. Here is a picture of the car with the hub caps I hope to replicate. I did think about changing parts around to convert to a '39, but the cars are so close that the '40 will be fine as a shelf display.
  6. Looks really nice. The black paint looks fantastic, and nice job on the details. Well done, you conquered!
  7. He had what looks like Oldsmobile hub caps with 4 fins. The Impala caps are all I had in the parts box. I'll be looking for a closer match. I think the body is hanging up on the chassis at this point. In the first picture I posted w/o paint you can see what the rear looked like.
  8. Thank you. I used Duplicolor metallic gold from the rattle can for the gold base coat. The top coat is Testors "Custom Green Metal Flake" decanted from the spray can and airbrushed.
  9. Thank you. There's been a "relearning curve" for sure. The paint is enamel, so you're right, a week or so to cure before moving on with it.
  10. Nope, Al Gore. Right after he invented it.
  11. Spectacular! Just fantastic all around. Great looking car.
  12. Today was my day to "unscrew up" a couple of Royally screwed up paint jobs that I ended up stripping and redoing. Got paint on one tonight and I'm happy. Got the other one primed and body work done. Well, I did get a little dust in the paint job so there's the screw up. Still happy though, much better than the screwed up messes I had.
  13. The movie "Thunder Road" with Robert Mitchum is a good old bootlegger/hot rod movie. I found the Blue Ray disc at a thrift store a few years ago. I have this posted in my WIPs, the Hot Rod Lincoln I'm working on... and off, and on...
  14. Today, after 25 years, stored away, I finally got paint on this one, posted tonight in WIP. ☺️
  15. Whoa! That's beautiful Steve. I think I need one of those kits! ?
  16. I've heard and read a number of times that cheap super glue is the same as any other super glue. Based on my experience I don't necessarily believe that. I grafted a Mercury Cougar roof onto a '73 Mustang to replicate my wife's first car, a Mustang notchback. The paint was Royally (pun intended) screwed up and I ended up stripping it with oven cleaner. The oven cleaner attacked the cheap super glue. Now, given the same conditions, oven cleaner may also have de-bonded the hobby store glue (BSI I think). However, in the process of doing bodywork the first time around, I can't count how many times the cheap super glue bond broke on the A-pillars and C-pillars/trunk area. After stripping I re-glued with the hobby store glue and redid all of my bodywork, with lots of sanding and handling. Nothing broke the entire time. This makes me think that there is a difference in quality.
  17. I have a LHS nearby that I've bought from. They are pretty competitive, and no shipping charges! Also a Hobby Lobby not far away. I've gotten some kits off of ebay, but I am very selective and basically cheap. I'm actually impressed with HobbyLinc. I just yesterday received my second order from them. 67 items and absolutely 100% correct (a bunch of paint and supplies and a few kits). I'll continue to use HobbyLinc.
  18. I briefly mentioned this one a while back in the "Bring Out Your Dead". I started this '40 Ford in the mid-90s but didn't get far other than gathering some parts and assembling and painting a Cadillac engine. All of my stuff was boxed up for 25 years. A good friend of mine who passed a while back built a '39 coupe that he used to show back in the '60s. This kit was always intended to recreate a model of that car, and I'm building my '40 Ford model in the spirit of his car and remembering my friend. The first pic is the resurrection, after setting up the suspension. I finally got paint on it tonight, after weeks of struggling with gold spray paint and panel line etching, amongst other "relearning" after 25 years of not building models. I ended up stripping the body once and starting over. It's only mocked up at this point, and the rear ride height isn't right. The paint is tender so I didn't want to force anything. I am so excited to finally have paint on it. There is a little dust in a couple of places so I am going to color sand with 2000 grit and spray one more time, after vacuuming my spray booth and crossing my fingers. I couldn't resist getting a couple of shots of my Hot Rod Lincoln WIP with the '40.
  19. Thank you. I misread someone else's post about wanting to try airbrushing. I need to pay attention to what I am reading. Your paint is flawless, just beautiful.
  20. Looking great. The color looks good on that body.
  21. Wow, fantastic looking build. Very nice!
