Link-Belt HC-218 Truck Crane
Kromolly replied to redneckrigger's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
What an incredible build you have going on there, Tom. I envy your vision, skill, patience and perseverance. I'm looking forward to watching this crane progress. Thank you for sharing the details of your build. -
Really nice save there. Looks much better and it's something you can display and enjoy. You're right, the corrected ride height made a huge difference.

That's a cool project, I like where you are going with it. I like the 2-door wagon. A sedan delivery would be a cool concept too.

1966 Chevy Suburban - Revell
Kromolly replied to MarcoTJ's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Very nice. The paint is spectacular. Looks like you captured the look of the '60 Chevy truck interior too. -
The quality of workmanship here is stunning. Amazing attention to detail.

Very cool build of a period hot rod. Love it!

I don't even have a word for that. 18 years in the making and all done by this one man. And it flies... with a real live pilot! Astonishing? I don't know if that's the word. Absolutely mind boggling to think of the planning, engineering and construction which went into creating that masterpiece. Just amazing. (there, I tried to come up with a few adjectives)

Some crazy bidding on MPC One Arm Bandit!
Kromolly replied to peteski's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Shenanigans! Someone is playing games with the bidding... yes, proxy bidders driving the price up. Let's hope they don't succeed. Prospective buyers should walk away from this disingenuous behavior. -
All very nice looking models. Great job. Thank you for sharing.

Cool history. Check out the story of Fageol trucks, which was later acquired by T. A. Peterman to become Peterbilt. Fageol did some aluminum "weight-saving" construction in the 1930s, and IIRC they built a nearly all aluminum frame & body truck that ultimately did not save the amount of weight expected. I'll have to scour my magazine archives for that story.

I haven't updated this one in a while. I'm getting close to final assembly on the Hot Rod Lincoln. I'm satisfied with the paint for my theme (backyard hot rod). I cut Testors gloss black (enamel) with some flat black to give the appearance of an amateur paint job. I think the lengthened hood turned out pretty good. I noticed in the pictures that the body is a little dirty, those are water spots. Interior floor was modified to fit the Lincoln V-12 and transmission. The idea was to replicate a quick and dirty sheet metal mod that might have been done in the backyard. The firewall required a little grinding, but the engine is now sitting nicely. The rest of the interior is done and ready for install. The paint is still a little soft so I'm going to set it aside for a week or so.

(100) 33 mm lids for my airbrush jars because I use enamels and lacquer thinner and they don't last. Cellulose and foil seal... when they crud up and aren't worth cleaning I will toss and grab another. Less than $0.25 each from fleabay. This made me happy. Yes, I am a simple man.

66-69 Corvair differences
Kromolly replied to Oldcarfan27's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ralph Nader get a lot of blame for the demise of the Corvair, and his "Unsafe at any Speed" campaign certainly did give GM a black eye. The car had a lot of other issues that played into its demise. If you didn't keep up with maintenance you could have a catastrophic failure. The fan belt was one critical item. Oil leaks, smelly heat inside the car due to heat exchange from the engine, noisy engine in the back, etc. made it less popular as the years went on. They are cool cars, I'd love to have another sometime. -
66-69 Corvair differences
Kromolly replied to Oldcarfan27's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
In '65 and '66 the 140 HP Corsa had four single barrel carburetors, not a tri-power. The turbocharged Corsa was rated at 180 HP, They were badged with a HP emblem on the engine cover. Standard Monza was two single barrel carbs rated at 110 HP. -
