Polishing a molded in color body
Leica007 replied to junkyardjeff's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Hi Jeff, I did the Starsky/Hutch Torino that way. I treated the body like it was painted, wet sanding with increasing higher numbers until your body looks smooth with some gloss when you look at it from angles; when it's that smooth, then start polishing it until you get the sheen you want. I think I started with 1500 grit an went to 6 or 8K. Here's a photo, hope it helps. -

Looks very nice, excellent decal work, and good colors.

As always, clean and nicely detailed. Someday I'll get to that level. Looks really good.

Back in high school a buddy got a 62 Chev impala convertible, always admired the look. I got this kit probably 20yrs ago and finally decided to build it, but I wanted to have a full top for it. Thanks to Mike1017 I got a another 53 Ford conv top and I used the two tops to make one fit the 62 Chevy. Used some thin cellophane to make the rear window so it looked more realistic. This was my first time trying BMF for part of the trim/badges, and you guys are right. It did better than the HVAC tape I normally use for the details. These old hands and eyes aren't as good as they used to be, so detailing the red/white/blue on the hubcap spinners was a fun challenge (but turned out well). The same goes for the interior chrome trim which was done with 2mm molotow. I used the tail lights for another build, so I made replacements from the little tabs/beads on clear and red sprues. The grille was blacked out with my favorite paint tool, a toothpick. One of these days I finally figure out how to get a great paint job, the Lord willing. I figure this should bring back some memories for a lot of you. Thanks for looking and comments welcome. Dick's had a 327, but the kit came with the 409 Used hvac tape to do the seat chrome, the rest is molotow The cellophane even has the wavey effect in the top hope the spinner detail show up, the ww are gel pen

Thanks Ken, yes it is an Aoshima kit.

Thanks for the complement. Your tail lights look a lot better, did you paint on the inside of them?

This was a curbside kit of a rally version and I didn't want to do an engine modification (Jenny just wanted a model of what she had). Yes there was a rt side mirror that went into another dimension.

1977 Ford Econoline ramp truck
Leica007 replied to Hondamatic's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Beautiful!!!! Your concept and execution is amazing and the paint looks flawless. The paint separation gives the effect of the body being sectioned. Hope it did well at the show. -
Picked up this kit off ebay for about 1/2 price to build for Jenny. Built from memory. All the MGB kits i found were right hand drive, so the dash and pedals had to be moved, which turned out to be less difficult than expected. This the second Japanese kit i have done and the molded glass top/windows is unique to paint (careful masking required). Took me about a month to do this, flocked floor, airbrushed craft paints, wheels from parts bin (close to what she had) and BMF trim on window frame & side stripe (2d attempt with BFM). It was a fun kit to build even though the instruction are in Japanese and the diagrams are not detailed. Thanks for looking and dcmments welcome. This is a shot of the dash mod and the finished interior

Crazy cool, nice treatment of a classic.

Good looking early street van, home built on a budget like many back in the day. Nice build.

Pretty sure the top if from the 53 Ford crestliner, I just used 2 of them to make a top for my 62 Impala convertible.

Rip off shorty dodge street van
Leica007 replied to Hondamatic's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Looks like a lot of owner built street vans of the period. Thanks for showing the chop photo, I've been wanting to shorten my Gold Rush kit so now I know where to section it. Thanks a bunch. -
If you don't hear from Old Trucker, let me know. I have 4 webers from a chevy 427 corvette motor (chrome still on the sprue). I'm near Pontiac.
