  1. I agree Robert, looks too clean but a race weathered car is possibly the hardest thing to do. I'd love to learn how to do that but for now it's well above my pay grade...lol!
  2. Absolutely gorgeous John. Superb detailing and attention to details (like the subtle tide lettering weathering) Your clear coat selection seems perfect for a period racer. Looks like a satin finish right? I have the Lotus 72 and the 2 Tyrells in my stash and have yet to take the plunge on one of these more advanced builds. Your build will be a benchmark to follow. Well, well done sir!
  3. So much beautiful details to look at. This is superb craftsmanship.
  4. Thank you John. The brush painting has been a journey in experimentation since I joined the hobby 5 years ago. I now have a process that works for me.
  5. Thank you Mark. I am very happy with the results. I finally have a photo setup I really like. Other than making the background board to reflect the specific type of race car, the setup only requires a few minutes to set up. I just use my iPhone and minimal post processing.
  6. Wow, these wheels. Made like the real ones, can't get more realistic than that!
  7. Beautiful work John. I was not aware of AMT making this car. How does it compare to the Tamiya kit we often see?
  8. Thank you all for the very nice feedback. some of you witnessed my struggles as documented in the w.i.p. but in the end I really enjoyed this project. The kit's few flaws are far outweighed by the beautifully cast body and the many lovely detailed parts. I highly recommend it.
  9. Merci Claude, the completed build is posted under glass
  10. This Corvette was my first AM kit and I sort of learned by trial and error. The kit has great parts but integration is somewhat lacking. I took my time and worked through the issues. I know the McLaren would be a bigger challenge but I'd love to take it on
  11. Congratulations Terry. A great rendition of a beautiful and brutaly fast race car. Is this a conversion kit or complete with chassis, engine, etc?
  12. Built from the Accurate Miniature kit with a a few changes to reflect the specific car I am particularly pleased with the paint finishes. Everything is brush painted. Vallejo primers and color coats. I did my own mix for the body color to look as much as possible to GM Silver Blue color. Tamiya acrylic clear, again brush painted then polished. A brushed Future seal coat applied over decals. Modifications limited to wheel opening profiles and a scratch built front grille. A few detailing adds such as PE seat belts and underwood plumbing & wiring. I also substituted the way too big kit tires with the ones from a Fujimi GT40 kit. Extensive work to get the proper ride height and hood fitment over the engine as described it the w.i.p. of this project. Thank you for watching and thanks to all of you for your input & advice during the w.i.p.
  13. Final items done on this build. Glass, exterior trim etc. I tried something different on the clear headlamp covers: Painting a small edge and the mating surface prior to bonding to hide the glue joint. I tried to twist the wipers to improve the orientation on the glass with limited success. I might eventually replace them with PE parts. So she is finally done. I will get the photo setup installed and post pictures in the Under Glass Other Racing section later today.
  14. Wow, really well done. What did you use for the wire wheels? They are beautiful. I love the early Ferraris
  15. That's a neat little race car and your rendition in 1/24 scale is super nice. well done
  16. 58 mm. I measured them and they are to scale. Makes for bad ass engine for sure!
  17. Another Southern 500 winner successfully coming off your bench. You should post a pic of all them together. Bud Moore had some of the best looking rides from the sixties and the transformation you made from a basic AMT 67 road car to a full blown 66 race car is highly successfull. Your brush painting is really good. It took me so much more time to achieve this level. Wondering, how did the polishing compound help vs only sanding cloths? (going through experiments myself) Beautiful car with tons of scratch building challenges. My hat's off sir!
  18. Wow, beautifully done. Particularly impressed with all that perfect chrome.
  19. Decals done. Simple design yet the center stripe was a bit tricky to do. I still have a dozen items on my list to complete this build. Most of them easy but 2 requiring some thinking. The clear headlamp covers and the wipers will need some work to look good.
  20. Andrew, shaking my head in disbelief looking at your magnificent work. I will never be capable of doing stuff like that but it is inspirational nevertheless. Thank you for sharing. Beautiful to watch.
  21. Thanks Bill. I moved to the city in a condo, no work shop so airbrush or rattle can is not an option for me. Brush painting has required some technique development but I'm happy with the results I am now getting.
  22. Thank you for sharing this. I reviewed your build process with great interest. The kit has it's quirks and a few dimensional misses but I still think it's great.
  23. Thank god there is that little roll cage to protect the driver if things go sideways. But if a turbine blows off...good luck! Beautiful build of a unique vehicle. Well done!
  24. Absolutely gorgeous engine, superb colors, weathering and detailing. The body is very very sharp. This is going to be a great build. Congrats.
