Your Camaro with the integrated flip hood and doors is totally bitchen. Here’s a shot of the Camaro-Corvair car (with a 409!) that I mentioned, I think this roof actually improves the appearance of the first gen. car.

Amazing creativity and workmanship! If you were to ever apply to Art Center School of Design in Pasadena, CA, this collection could qualify as a portfolio. My favorite is also that rear engine Charger, it would be an absolute hit in 1:1 at the National Roadster Show. Speaking of NRS, I remember seeing a first gen Camaro with a second gen Corvair roof grafted onto it, it was wonderful and it would be my request if you were ever to do a commission for me.

That is one impressive gullwing! Next best thing to dropping a mil on a 1:1! And those scratch-built eyebrows you did came out perfect, bravo! If $$$ and space we’re no object, I would love to have two of these kits to display, one complete and one with a naked chassis.

You build ‘em neat tiddy & FAST! They are all beautiful but that Z/28 is my favorite, classy and unstated with the black stripes against the charcoal, look’s like a 1:1 in your photos.

Really like the paint scheme on this, the slightly dark metallic red stripe in the silver came out sweet, really pops! Silver can be challenging - this one came out great!

Looking good! Nice job on the painted window trim and the redline tire decals. I also like the look of the black steelies with the yellow. Looking forward to seeing this beauty come together.

Thanks guys for all the “at-a-boy’s”! Such nice folks on this board! I wanted to post a few shots of the interior during assembly, not to toot my horn but to show how nicely tooled this Revell interior is right out of the box. The separately molded door and window crank hardware and chrome pieces on the dash and back seat makes this kit so easy to detail.

Thanks guys for all the kind comments and encouragement, a lot of amazing builds on this board so it’s an honor to even be noticed! I do have a set of Sox & Martin decals for the AWB ‘65 Ply along with sets for Shirley Shahan’s Drag-In-Lady, Gumpy’s Black Arrow, Dick Brannan’s ‘63 Galaxie, the Seaton’s Shaker AWB Chevelle and Dick Harrell’s first AWB Nova all in my decal and kit stash which I hope to build in the coming months.

I've had '60's super stock drag cars on the brain since start of the pandemic and have built twenty of them since late 2019, here are my latest three: AMT/ Round 2 (Lindberg) '62 Chevy Bel Air 409 A/S "Northwind": OOB except for Fireball resin carbs and Detail Master ignition and linkage parts. Old AMT decals are incredibly brittle, I had to spray these with acrylic spray to get them to hold together. AMT/ Round 2 (Lindberg) '64 Dodge 426 Hemi (the Ramchargers kit) - Dick Landy's original SWB car before he altered the wheelbase. I used the excellent Slixx decal set and added Fireball resin carbs and Detail Master ignition and throttle parts to the engine and some after market seat belt parts and tach, otherwise pretty much OOB: Moebius '65 Comet A/FX w/ Ford 427 SOHC - the Dyno Don kit car: This one's pretty stock other than Fireball resin carbs and Detail Master distributor and plug wires and throttle linkage parts and after market seat belt/ harness parts. Unlike other Moebius kits I've built, these decals cracked on me so I suspect there's a limited shelf life on the kit decals (build 'em soon if you got 'em!): I still have like a dozen or so sixties super stock kits in my stash so hopefully I'll post more in '22 if you like them. Cheers, John

This is a very nice kit (originally Monogram?) that Revell re-issued in their "California Wheels" series. I built it OOB other than plug wires. Base paints for the exterior are from Scale Finishes and were mixed to match the original factory colors "Suntan Copper" and "Fawn Beige". Metal trim was masked and airbrushed using Alclad chrome over black enamel. The trunk is openable on this kit but I managed to glue mine shut due to excess epoxy on the rear chrome light pieces. My favorite part of this kit is the interior, an absolute jewel that is really easy to paint and detail. I highly recommend this kit if you can find it.

That FRS resin body looks like a perfect fit on the Moebius 65 Plymouth AWB chassis - did you have to do much in the way of modifications to make this all work? Very nice job on a classic AWB super stocker that’s probably been rarely if ever modeled. Love your taste in drag cars - keep building and posting ‘em!

Another masterpiece from the Mr Lin workshop! Builders like you and Steven Guthmiller set the bar so high for the rest of us “imperfect but always striving to do better on the next build” modelers here. Inspiring! I always thought this first Z and the ‘90 300Z were the best looking of all the Z designs. I got a chance to see the new Z at the local auto show last month and was blown away, it is absolutely beautiful, nice sports car size and super clean styling reminiscent to me of this original 240Z.

That filthy barnyard gasser is outstanding! I particularly love the homemade signage (“Homemade Hell” - what a great name for this car!) the steelies with front whitewalls and the windshield wiper view. Did you learn to do this by building weathered AFV’s or did you just apply those techniques directly to cars?
-
Love the side profile look of the channeled version of this kit. Also really like your understated color choices, the reddish-black + wine interior + gold wheels all just tastefully “clicks”! Beautiful build! Makes me want a 1:1 of this car to cruise around town in!

Much thanks Ryan for posting you’re painting process in such detail in response to my questions. Like you, I think increased patience has really improved my painting as well as general model building results. I have found successful scale model builds are about 85% masking and painting and WAITING and 15% everything else! I look forward to trying out your process on a future paint job.

Chaparral 2D
papajohn97 replied to yellowsportwagon's topic in Other Racing: Road Racing, Salt Flat Racers
Beautiful execution on this old tool (‘60’s?) bare bones kit. Based on color photos of the 1:1 Chaparrals that I’ve seen, you nailed that weird burnt umber color for the inside tub. Wish Fujimi would re-issue this kit, the current EBay prices for remaining unbuilt kits are nuts. I had the 1/24 Cox slot car version of this car (along with the Cheetah) and they are both on my long list of model and 1:1 cars that I wish I still had. Love all of Jim Hall’s race cars, like Gurney he could design and build ‘em as well as race ‘em. -

Lovely paint and all around clean beautiful build! I’ve had good experiences with Tamiya lacquer rattle cans as well and have gotten my best results with TS-13 clear if I spray it within an hour over the last color coat. How much cure time did you give between your final aluminum coat and first transparent red coat as well as between the final red coat and the first TS-13 coat? Also love the “city scape” backgrounds in your photos, makes it look like a 1:1 car!

“Totally bitchin” as we use to say back in the day! Excellent color choices and perfect execution all around. Of what little I can see, the interior looks amazing - do you have any pics of it before final assembly that you could post? Also like others have asked, does the trunk still open or did you glue it closed?

Amazing detailing and good looking two-tone paint scheme. Love that front mounted machined aluminum fuel tank!

Beautiful build! I love these Fujimi 356 kits, they are not without their challenges but they look so realistic when done. I think they have the most realistic looking wheels of any 1/24 -1/25 model kit ever made. Your roadster really makes the fabulous interior visible (the one coupe I built you can barely see anything inside the dark interior). The omitted bumpers and hub caps makes me remember when these 356’s were affordable “college kid” cars in the 60’s, now one like this one could sell for the price of a new house!!!

Stone, Woods & Cook Swindler II '41 Willys Gasser
papajohn97 replied to Phildaupho's topic in Drag Racing
Fabulous job Phil on transforming this spindly old kit into a masterpiece. I have this car on my “to do” list and figured I’d use the newer Revell tooled kit but your build is making me re-think it. Thank you for taking the time to describe all the enhancements you did in such detail. Also, that Tamiya light blue Pearl looks like a perfect match for this early SWC willys. I got to see the restored car at the Price/ Lions museum in Los Angeles last month, an excellent collection of classic drag cars. When I asked the docent what the owner paid for this car, he just shook his head and said “you don’t want to know….it was very very $$$!!!!). -
Very impressive build Tony! You particularly did a great job on the super big white decals that Moebius provided with this kit, not easy to apply everything so well aligned and bubble-free as you’ve done here. If I assume you first sprayed the entire body with the red first, it’s amazing how well these decals covered the red. I noticed this kit is getting harder to find, if anyone wants to build this excellent ‘65 A990 S/S kit, best to grab one soon before they all disappear and/or become crazy $$$.

Thanks for replying Eric. I read somewhere on here that Mobius is working on a Dodge version of their ‘65 Plymouth kits - hope this rumor is true, I would love to build an accurate version of Landy’s AWB Dodge (using the Slixx decal set) without having to resort to resin parts. A ‘65 Dodge AWB could also be built as a Ramchargers, Bud Faubel “Honker”, Dave Stricker car, etc. On the AMT Mustang AWB Funny Car chassis, in case you missed it you can check out how I did my chassis mods on my build of the Dick Brannan “Bronco” match racer using this horrid kit that I posted last June here. Looking forward to enjoying more of your SS builds!

Very nice execution Eric on this kit-bashed AWB Falcon. I tried making something acceptable out of the sister kit AMT ‘65 Mustang AWB “funny car” using the toy-like chassis supplied in the kit- what a challenge (= what a mess!!!) I think you did this right by adapting the Trumpeter chassis which looks like it provided a more accurate enclosed engine bay as well as more realistic stance. Look’s like we share the same taste in drag car models (‘60 - ‘66 super stocks). I love the ‘65 Plymouth Bill Jenkins Black Arrow build you posted last month as well as this Falcon. I’ve been trying to pick up a few more of the excellent Moebius Plymouth A990 kits before they all disappear to match up with a few of the also disppearing Slixx decal sets to fill out my SS collection. Hoping to soon build a Black Arrow as well as a Shirley Shahan Drag-On-Lady. Thanks for posting Eric! Show us some more of your builds!
