The Zen of Model Building
dino246gt replied to afx's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Since I retired, I've adopted the "Zen" approach, I now have more time to spend so I might as well, slow down and enjoy each and every little moment of the build. After all, that IS the fun, for me, of model building, building! Yes I really enjoy it so much more now that I'm not in a hurry to finish anything. The Scout kit has nothing for under the hood, so I kit bashed and scratch built these "things", so much fun! -

The Golden Foose - DONE!
dino246gt replied to Impalow's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I just couldn't let this one slip by without me saying what everyone else has already said! It's a perfect period custom piece! I love it, so nicely done, clean and tasty! The piping is an amazing addition and your explanation of how it's done is excellent. -

Can't wait to see more of this one, should be very cool, and low! (Foose Caddy chassis???) -
Yes I think using the stock Revell '48 would be the same as what I did with the chopped version. Have you, or anyone else, tried that '41 Plymouth front clip? I have the woody body that I've been "playing" with, don't have front fenders for it yet and using '48s seems silly because there IS a '48 woody already. Oh, for my custom I used stock '49 Merc tail lights and I think they're perfect, considering that "back then" they used parts from other cars for customs.

I've been "dreaming" of building a '56 Ford for years, maybe decades! LOL, and I love the orange and white combo. Build on, and show progress please! Cheers!

That looks like clear will finish it off, light coats. IF I was in that spot, that you are in, so as not to be upset with it, I'd let a couple of light coats dry for a week! Then sand it again and finish with more clear. Just a suggestion, do you have a dehydrator? It's a very worthwhile investment, cuts dry time by about 10. Almost eliminates frustration when this sort of thing happens to me, and it does, it happens to all of us I'd say, at one time or another.

1960 Chrysler Imperial. 12/4, Finished!!
dino246gt replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in WIP: Model Cars
As a member of the Winnipeg Model Car Club, I know Steven's builds, oh man are they ever sweet! Each year our club picks the "Best Road Car" at the NNL North, and Steven has won a couple of times and we've been in awe of his detailed factory stock builds every time. This Imperial will be another beauty I'm sure, it's already cool, a hardtop and a smooth paint job, can't wait to see it after Steven details it. -

I designed and built a 1/25th "Mid-Engine" Vette many years ago, of course outdated now, but it was fun!

Ron Hamilton, I like your views on this, and on a new model kit of the mid-engine halo Vette. I'd like to suggest that even the model manufacturer's make a "Halo" kit, and I know I'm going crazy here, but why not 1/12th scale? A lot of us are getting older, well ALL of us are, and 1/12th could become a great scale, although obviously more expensive, some old guys like myself who've built a lot of models over the decades are now taking more time and adding more details trying to make sort of an ultimate build. (I tried that 1/12th Countach, and have a lot of money invested in parts for an ongoing 1/8th '32) 1/12th would be the ideal scale, even for a '32 IMO. Of course there would still be 1/24th, just like Chevy will still offer front engine Vette! I could be crazy! (okay I AM crazy, heeheehee)

1965 Ferrari 206P Dino - Forgotten Prototipo
dino246gt replied to Italianhorses's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Welcome back Alex! So sorry to hear about your accident and injuries, I hope you're not depressed. Your build of this kit is truly inspiring, even though you keep saying it isn't perfect. You've achieved perfection over 10 years ago, now relax and enjoy building no matter how they turn out, just have fun, nothing left for you to prove, you're already a hero in many Ferrari enthusiast's eyes! Ciao and Forza Ferrari!! -

I scored this cool '58 built up for a great low price! Almost too cool to fix up, just leave it as is probably! -

I love that Jeep, cool gas station service vehicle like all the old corner stations used to have, love it! -
Nice work and a great improvement, barely noticeable once finished but somehow it'll just have that look, that you just can't quite put your finger on as to why this one looks so much better than most! Only you'll know! And that's all that matters! Thanks for sharing with such good narrative so that we can do it ourselves if we choose to!
