1/8 Pocher Lotus 72
Bainford replied to Chris Smith's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
Good looking Lotus. One of Colin's all-time greats. Nice work. -
Wire Tie Downs from Aluminum Cans
Bainford replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I used to use beer can aluminum and turkey pan aluminum for such things, but I use the aluminum tape now. Very pliable, and the stickum is very strong so no need to mess with an additional adhesive. -
Another old guy, but from Massachusetts.

Welcome to the forum, Ced. -
Looking good so far. The 70 Javelin was such a good looking car, in my opinion one of the best looking American cars built. I'll be watching this one come together.

This coming along great. You’re nailing the look. Impressive work on the rear deck lettering.

Decal sheets stuck together
Bainford replied to redscampi's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Regarding your current decals, give them a couple good coats of liquid decal film before using, to restore some decal integrity. Also, depending on the nature of the discolouration, taping the sheet to a sunny window, good side facing out, can sometimes clear them up. May take a few days. If the window is prone to getting damp at night, put the decals in a sealed zip lock bag, first. Good luck. Sounds like an interesting kit. -
Decal sheets stuck together
Bainford replied to redscampi's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
They are an online business. I’d post a link but I’m too much of a luddite to do it from my phone. Indycals.net should get you there, or just google indycals. They have some nice stuff for open wheel racers. I haven’t ordered from them myself, but they are highly recommended by forum members who have. -
Odd Place to Find Models
Bainford replied to Calb56's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Interesting… I wonder what their shipping rates to Canada are like. -
What did you see on the road today?
Bainford replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Star Wagon! Sweet! Good looking one. Been looking into buying one of these for the last few years. Lots of options for these things. Tough trying to find one that ticks all the boxes, plus a 5-spd, but they're out there. -
Decal printing fail
Bainford replied to Sidney Schwartz's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
There are specific decal papers for either inkjet or laser printers, and you have to use the correct one for your printer. From descriptions I’ve heard from other modellers, I suspect this is a case of the wrong paper. -
Tamiya RA272
Bainford replied to bo_ells's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
Interesting subject, and good looking kit. I’ll be watching this one come together. -
Cool little MG, Pat. Nicely done.

I’m not personally aware of any decals, though there seems to be a decal for nearly everything, so they may be out there. However, very fine screen can be found in coffee filter baskets. Replacements can be found in the grocery store, some with brass screen, some with plastic such as nylon, polypropylene or something similar.

Welcome to the forum, Rick.

Very cool! Is a lot of carving and parts forming required? Really nice work here.

Beautiful Mustang! You did a lovely job on this one. Nice & clean, and great detail. Nice clean foiling, and I’d say your getting the hang of the airbrush. Nice paint and perfect colour. Certainly one of the nicest builds I’ve seen of this kit. Very well done.

Thanks To AMT For The New Technology Old Kits
Bainford replied to oldcarfan's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Like many here, I am quite excited about the possibilities of this technology, and so glad that Round2 is employing it. I have a couple of these kits on my 'Want List', but have not purchased one yet. Can anyone tell me if the body scripts and badges on these kits are reproduced as well, or are we left to replicate those with decals? -
Good looking sand dragger. Nice and clean build. I really like the plug wire boots on the valve covers. Nice work.

The new paint looks great. Sits nice, too. What did you strip the nail polish with?

Getting back into model building
Bainford replied to Bigchef2112's topic in Welcome! Introduce Yourself
Welcome to the forum, Robert. Very nice looking NASCARs, especially digging the Foyt Cyclone. Cheers. -
Cool project, Kurt. I missed this one first time around. Lots of stuff going on here. At first I thought the lengthened body would look awkward, but once painted and assembled, it looks great. Great stuff, very well done.

A correction for those who care; turpentine is not petroleum based. It is sourced from several species of trees, mostly varieties of pine trees.
