  1. I sold mine not long ago. Put it on ebay higher than I ever thought it would go and it sold. Would like to redo it someday. Was built at a time when I didn't care that much for that era of stock autos. But it turned out well. They really look good finished with modern paint and foil. And unusual.
  2. Good luck! I have no plans for builds - never do. Whatever strikes me at any moment from the stash or on here. Looking forward to the detailing.
  3. Super work! I can't imagine all you're doing. I built the AMT 1949 Merc and wanted to add the lip at bottom of trunk lid that isn't on the kit piece. That was enough extra work for me. I'd never finish something like this. Can't wait to see it finished. Widest white walls for this big boat.
  4. When I put this on a shelf at the top of the room, you'll never even know if it has an interior at all... not sure if I even care about the figure. Wonder how much the figure will increase the price? I'll wait for someone to open it before buying, then decide.
  5. Agreed with that as well. In the last year, I've added about 40 1/24 diecasts from the Mints to the "lowly" $5 Welly cars. I couldn't finish that many kits in 5 years. I have finished a BUNCH this year, but the diecasts are either not kitted or are detailed far better than I ever want to. I often wonder how they were able to crank those out so well. Would love to see a video of the Mint factories' assembly lines.
  6. I really need that Caddy to go with my others. The girl figure will probably end up in the same container with the gangsters from MPC and the couple from the 59 Ford. Just not that interested in finishing the figures.
  7. Sharp Vette! DM makes the best Vettes overall.
  8. Looks great - love the mainstream idea always
  9. I know it's tough to believe, but it turns out okay. I have built TWO of them. First by choice and second by request for a friend. I have my yellow one on ebay right now. The purple one will go to it's recipient soon. And it is not the sharpest tooling out there for sure. The yellow one is the first issue of the kit when it was new. Purple is the boxing that you posted. Not much difference. Nothing better or worse in the 20 years? or so between then and now. Good luck - you'll get there. Oh yeah, the chrome in my newer version was quite spotty. I used a molotow pen to dot in the spots on the chrome and the chrome on the grille and side sweeps on mine is foiled. It was quite bad. And the kit was still shrinkwrapped so I know the previous owner didn't sell it knowing that.
  10. And fuel stabilizer? Stabil, Pri-G? Something like that so you don't have to dismantle carb? And ethanol free gas if possible? I used to work with the NC state motorcyle program and I had to keep or get running about 85 -100 bikes in my garage. Have seen what bad gas will do in a floatbowl and carb. and a battery tender year round. Just suggestions to help. As for getting ready for winter, I started getting my water based paints and supplies ready to go to the house. Building isn't heated, so I take all that up to the house so it doesn't freeze. In NC, I will have weekends where i can work in building with a little supplemental heat.
  11. You guys are sooo neat! LOL. My work area is an absolute wreck! I have a 12' wide space at the end of my storage building. It has a 12' long workbench along the end wall of building. In front of that on the back wall is a desk I bought at goodwill. On top of that is a flat formica covered tabletop built by grandfather 40? years ago. on top of that is the top part of one of those knock up desks that has a cabinet at top. It's a hodgepodge. I work out of the drawer mostly. I try to keep my good files, Xactos, scissors, picks, in a cigar box in the drawer. I can take that to the house in cold weather (coming up). Side drawers have paints and such. Along the front wall is an old table that serves as airbrush area. But the whole place stays a wreck. Cleaning time is NOT building time. My wife hates it, because she is very neat and OCD about stuff. My work area gives her the willies. I should try to get a photo of the whole work area and let you guys count how many different kits you can find going on. Heck you may see something I thought was lost. It is a wonder I get anything finished. And I often end up making new parts when I lose the originals.
  12. Maybe I could get used to it. But I'd likely lose it on the morass that is my bench. I learned to use an Xacto knife at work in the mid 80s so hard to beat that tool for me. When cutting fine work, my xacto is held in a similar position, where the tip is an extension of the finger until you have to turn, then I turn the barrel in my fingertips. Not sure the fingertip knife would work that way, due to limitations or flexibility of the hand/wrist? If you happen to have pics/vids of it in use, would love to see that.
  13. I have to agree with the recommendation for a pancake compressor. I had a 20 gal, 5 hp that worked for years, but it was just too cumbersome and took up too much floor space. I got a Pancake compressor and 3 nailers for a $199 at a big box place on sale (the blue store). I can run it till it's full, then turn the switch off so it doesn't restart and paint for a good amount of time. Refill if necessary. I can also fill it up, go air up car tires. And use it with the nailers and other air tools. As for the airbrushes, I only have experience with the Badger single action and a Paasche VLS double action. Lots of folks have recommended the Harbor Freight deal on other threads. It might just work.
  14. I've built several Tamiya race cars. All very rewarding. And well-engineered. Enjoy
  15. The interior is literally 3 pieces, tub with seats molded in, dash, and steering wheel. Oh and a rear view mirror. So 4 pieces. The grille and body interface needs a little tuning to fit perfectly. The chrome trim need a bit of defining in places - I drag an Xacto knife around it as needed, either scribing or dragging the back of the point around it all to define the parts a little more fully - I do this on most builds though. But it makes a beautiful piece on the shelf.
  16. Thanks for the update. I love seeing how you make these things work and come together. Carry on and good luck in the new house.
  17. You are correct. 59 anniversary edition. I don't know how many were made. Mine has #2277 on it. The review is fuzzy on what that really means. But it's nice. And the Penske is a plastic revell, not the diecast. I still like it though. That was a great era of racing.
  18. Actually, it is the 58 DM limited edition. Fuelie. So now I have a 56, 58, 62, 63 SW, 67 Conv, and 75 Conv in Mint cars. I have a 66 Penske, 3 Grandsports, 55 with ZR-1 running gear and some later ones I have on ebay right now. Would like to find a 65 Mint or Napa diecast. Oh yeah, and a 65 builtup street machine style - Cragars and sparkly paint. So I have more than I really should have since I'm not a big Vette fan. Kinda like Firebirds - they somehow appear in your collection. I have like 15 Birds of various names from 1/64 - 1/24. I may have more of those than Camaros. Maybe there is hope to find the 61 Ford Wagon cheap someday.
  19. Cool. It was the cheapest of these on the bay last week. Wasn't really looking for it, but it was cheap enough to get my interest and seller was willing to make a deal on both with "free" shipping. Got both for about as cheap as you can buy these two cars. Had given up on finding a reasonably priced Buick (less than $100). And the Vette just caught my eye. thought I had all the Vettes I needed. Guess I was wrong... lol. A nice model is a nice model, whether you need it or not, right?
  20. Could be the Danbury Mint version. It's almost brown, actually burgundy. And yes, the quality of these now is spotty. Many are having big paint issues at this age. I have that one as well. Slight detail differences, maybe a little nicer trim, wheelcovers. $20 is a good price.
  21. My latest acquisitions. Danbury mint. Had to fix the windshield frame on the Corvette. The Buick needs an antenna may and spot light reattached. But good pricing so I'm happy with them
  22. 50s and 60s customs, lowriders, Or if you could make some cheapo Walmart seat covers...
  23. I did this a long time back on a Roth car. Found a good photo of the speedo and printed it at high res. As George says, it is legible and looks like the real deal instead of trying to fiddle with the molded detail. I use Corel 13, btw (work related and supplied). Works for most any project, bitmap or vector. If you are looking for a good program, as Peteski says, older Corel can be had for a song. And if you get all the CDS, you will have plenty of fonts and clip art to help get a project started. And can be shared around to several computers.
  24. I'll second the Scale Motorsports decals. I have a sheet of hte 60s pattern that I haven't cut into yet. Haven't had the right project since I got it. But the leopard skin worked well on this one, which was mostly flat.
