  1. THIS forum is my favorite "social media". I am not inspired to go to shows or swap meets. I like building to suit myself and try to make things you guys will comment on. I try for accuracy, but I don't go overboard with details anymore. When it's on the shelf, it should look reasonably realistic. I do miss some of the folks I've met in person over the years. I went through a period with a job change that kept me away from home during the week. I made a "go kit" for my house while I was at work. I worked on things there, did my airbrushing when home when possible. Didn't complete a kit in that time. Messed with little sub assemblies. Got job back at home and stareted up again. And am in full swing with a mostly entirely different collection now. Selling off the ones that don't fit, building new plastics that do and buying diecasts to play with as well. It's all in finding what pleases you and keeps you going. If I had to build sports cars all the time, I'd lose interest again. I had a couple hundred NASCAR models - can't bear the thought of building one now. Give me a big American barge and a bottle of glue and I'm happy. Well, ok, give me all my modeling supplies and a big American car kit. And an occasional NICE sportscar kit.
  2. Wow, been a long time since I heard a Spike Jones reference. But I can hear it in my head!
  3. Ok, bringing this one back up as I have started fooling with mine. I have the wheels and tires off. I am working a deal on a 53 to scavenge for it's wheels/tires. How do the Mint car wheels come off? I may use the 58 wheels on a 63 Jada Caddy. Gotta do something. Still not happy with the red and black. Would prefer something different, which would mean an MCG set? IDK where it will end up going. Also need to dig up my boots and see what might work, if anything.
  4. That might be the best Majorette I've ever seen. Most look too toylike to consider. Also, not sure I've ever seen a 1/24 Majorette. Mostly 1/64 class, Or I should probably say 3" class, where a camaro and full size pickup are same length. And the dashboard sticker is as good as the Mint car. I've often wondered why the Mints went to such great lengths at times, then put a flat sticker on for the dash.
  5. THat's a really nice truck bed trailer. Most of the real ones I've ever seen are nowhere near that nice! Nice job on this one.
  6. I've neen thinking this should have it's own thread. Then folks could play along. I buy a claendar from Auto Archaeologist every year that has photos the guy finds in his searches as a consignor. It's pretty cool, but would be impossible to do this with. This month's photo is an old GMC bread truck (for lack of a better term) sitting in the edge of the woods. But he has had more mainstream stuff. A rusted out Charger, etc. But yes, I think a separate thread would be great. I'll look at WM when I go tonight. Around here in the Bible belt, Wednesday evening is the best time to go because a lot of folks are at WEd night church services. not this heathen though....
  7. That's a good one - "Palmer territory" . As for the WHY, I would say that it has to do with selling kits. A 69 Camaro should sell. I mentioned this somewhere else, but on a recent trip through Hobby Lobby, there were several folks on the model aisle looking at kits for gifts and they had no idea what they were looking at. So they were getting kits based on box art. Good box art goes a long way towards sales. So they sell some more 69s and folks getting them either don't know the difference or like many of us, would buy for the extras - wheels, tires, engine, etc. Slip a clunker or two in there now and then and just collect the money. They are a bigger part of the industry than a few of us vocal critics. They can get by with it.
  8. I don't always see the details perfectly, but this one does scream "WRONG!" at me. Have a good go at it.
  9. I did the 67 & 68 from AMT/MPC whatever. they didn't seem this bad to my memory. THIS is what they are selling in that box? Really? Wow, that's awful. So, is there a comparison thread on which is worse, the Mongran rampage 69 Camaro or this one? I have a set of Revell 69 Camaro taillights in my model desk drawer that have been floating around for probably 10 years or more in there. I was going to offer them to you, but they would never fit that opening. LOL Steering wheel and dash look nice in your photos and your build quality is solid, as usual.
  10. What do you have, a huge collection of unfinished kits? And I mean that in a genuinely inquisitive manner, no snark intended. I mean, i have a bunch myself. Not on the detail scale of yours though. I would lose interest way early trying to do all that. I have to make continual progress and finish pretty quick (month or less?) or I'll lose interest and start something else.
  11. The Mint bass boat is a pretty large setup behind the 1/27 truck. Might look better with the dually.
  12. My buddy is always on the lookout and found a deal on these 4 from the same seller. Fury is supposed to be only missing the antenna masts - I can see the bases in the photos. But these are some dirty cars - very fuzzy with dust. I think I can clean them up presentable. And like you, I have resisted. I have a first issue Ertl 1/18 and a 1/64. Built the plastic Bevedere. And so on. But I'll probably sell the Ertl when I get the Mint car if it is in reasonably good shape. I'm pretty good at avoiding temptation at this point. But my buddy isn't and he pays me for building plastics for him by buying me more diecast, plastic, basically whatever I point out to him.. So it works for us.
  13. Car looks great. Sorry you're having issues. Even if you order a new set, they may be old. I mean, Pegasus may have ordered a big load of them years ago? So they may still be same lot or old. Hard to tell. Let me know if I can help any more. be glad to try.
  14. I'm a bit excited - my buddy I build for just acquired 4 Mint cars for me. To sell or keep as I see fit. Danbury 58 Fury, Danbury 57 Chevy convertible, 56 Sunliner, Danbury 55 Ford (black/white). All of these cars have sold fairly well for me in the past. I've been able to sell ever 57 chevy I've had for my price just by putting it on BIN and letting it sit. And we're in these easy enough to sell fairly inexpensively. Just like a real car guy, gotta clean them up, minor repairs as needed, then shelf or sell. Photos when they get here.
  15. That's what I'm thinking. I'm afraid to ask what the costs would be though...
  16. So I noticed the lacking top seams, but also thought that the backstory could be that is was originally a vinyl top car. And at somepoint in it's life the vinyl degraded and had to be removed. And the owner that hot rodded it sanded and painted the top part of the car to match the flat black hood. Therefore, no seams. Back in teh 50s - 70s, there was often an option for painted tops instead of vinyl. Over hte life span of hte car, that could be better option than the vinyl. Once the vinyl was compromised (cracked, split), water would get under it and rust quickly. So with the hot rod wheels (very Euro/tuner?), the lack of seams is really no big deal. Most all of my builds that aren't showroom fresh have some sort of backstory to reason out why I built it as I did. It's a beautiful build and reminds me of something you might see on Forza. thanks for sharing another great build.
  17. nice project. Makes me want to dig mine out and start on it. but then I know it might get stalled... And color - what in the world would I do? I have a 67 Charger in bronze with bronze interior. Lots of B5 blue cars. High Impact colors seem too easy. I like this generation of cars with a poly exterior and matching interior. That was always to coolest to me. Especially considering the color choices now. I guess wanting to build one is what keeps me from selling it and the multitudes of the AMT variants I have. I need to finish one more car and may need parts... Keep it coming.
  18. Nice! liking the color combination.
  19. I have a 1/43 AMT Javelin AMX built up somewhere. Would love to see a reissue of a 1/25 Javelin. Thanks for all the photos.
  20. We bought the boss the 2017 (?) blue one shown to closely match his personal truck. Also got the Franklin/Danbury? Mint BP Ranger bass boat to go with it. We do a lot of BP imaging work. The boat really overshadows the 1/27 truck. He displays them separately anyway. Nice diecasts for the reasonable prices.
  21. I have a couple c5 (I think) plastics I need to sell off but no diecast other than a 1/18 Dale Earnhardt 2001 Daytona car that I also need to sell off. New Vettes, even racing, just don't fit the collection anymore. But, like snake says, if these are this nice, no need to try to work in a plastic build. You can save plastic time for models that aren't available in diecast. I have the Welly(?) newer GTO (RiteAid - $10) and It's pretty nice. no brake detail, but sharp shut lines, great paint and outside detail. I'm straying.... back to Corvettes. Thanks gramps and Snake for presenting the diecast options.
  22. Keep it coming. You have a pulse and I keep looking at the progress. Thanks for sharing the work.
  23. The sign vinyl is slightly thinner - if you get the high performance cast version. Might work if you have tolerances. The HP vinyl conforms better than a cheaper "calendared" vinyl as well. A graphics shop might even give you some scrap for free. And we all like free.
  24. I also had an Audi Fox after the Vegas. Looking back, the Vegas were easier to own/operate. THe Fox should have been a wonderful car. But it was not.
  25. Thanks for the compliments. I really wanted a cinnamon color, but the turquoise was so 50s that I couldn't resist. Plus I had turquoise on hand. Next time I do one similar, I'll try foiling the little emblems before painting. See if that works out. I also made the top where I can snap it in too. Need to work on the rear window some, get it to fit. But the convertible looks so good.
