Testor's is No More
Mr. Metallic replied to DoctorLarry's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The Testors name remains and is still available. They are discontinuing every product line under the Testors umbrella. That includes Model Master. They said they would be incorporating some of the sub-line colors into the remaining Testors line, but a vast majority of it will be gone once current supply runs out. Man, there is so much mis-information out there in the world -
If anyone is not going to use the decal set from their Milk Trike, I would love to have it. I need it to help restore an actual Eldon Milk Truck Glad the made it all the way through all 6 trikes, especially the "Black Max"!

I don't think the aim is to bring new stock in at a higher price. I think it's the opposite. Bring all their prices in the store lower so they don't have to incentivize with the 40% coupon. At least that's what they were implying when they announced the discontinuation of the 40% coupon. But I could be wrong.

This thing is looking tough. Happy accident on the windshield frame.

Revell '29 hotrod pickup.
Mr. Metallic replied to Can-Con's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Pretty sure it's complete and posted over in the Under Glass section -
The Yellow Jacket is a 30-31 Model A roadster, so it is not the origin of any 32 Ford kit. It is actually a variant of the 6 in 1 Monogram Model A coupe/cabriolet tooling. To make the Yellow Jacket roadster version they just left the roof out of the kit. Original Sadly, all that remains of this once expansive tooling is now a stock only 5 window coupe

I seem to recall Round 2 putting out feelers about the Custom 32 kit a few years ago. This would be a great candidate to treat the same way they did the 63 Nova wagon, especially if they have ANY of the old tooling left. At least the body should still exist because it was thrown together with the phaeton tool to make a stock Tudor.

That's a good looking build Tim. Growing up in the 80's and raised around 50's and 60's rods and customs, the 70's is a lost decade for me. But I have seen a few rods over the last couple years that have me wanting to dip my toes into the decade. Even though it has it's fans, the Switchers series has just been generally derided over the years, and that uninspiring RC2 boxart caused me to basically ignore this kit when I did see it for sale over the last 15 years. Then when I saw this build on Facebook it caused me to give this previously bypassed kit a second look. Especially this unique body arrangement. When I found out that this build was basically box stock I began the hunt for this kit. And seeing your build just shows me that this kit will be worth my time. Thanks for sharing

Atlantis & T.D. Unreal roller box art !!
Mr. Metallic replied to Mr mopar's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Looks like Atlantis was able to come to an agreement with TD. That's great news for other TD kits they should have in their tooling bank If only Revell AG/Revell USA/Blitz could work it out their own deal with TD so they could finally release the Baja Bandito/Baja Beast -
After seeing a really well done version of the 25 T on one of the FB survivor models pages I went on the hunt for one of my own. The survivor had the optional C cab/delivery parts on it, and I'd never seen one built that way before. What made it even cooler was the wild 70's panel paint decals. I'm going to build something close when I get my kit from a friend at next months club meeting. I've never built a 70's era rod before.

My thoughts exactly. Where are people buying current catalog kits for $20 or less. Like you said, 40% off the 29.99 kits brings it down to a shade under $18. What LHS has the same kit for $20? I still have a LHS, and support them nearly every week with some sort of purchase. you will most definitely still be able to buy model kits at 40% off. They will probably bring it in line with the rotating sales they have on just about every other department throughout the year. You'll just have to pay attention to when the sale is. Unless they are going to bring the shelf price of model kits down as part of their "discounting" initiative. then the rotating sale may reduce to 20 or 30%.

Built this before the Revell kit came out using an AMT roof on a revell roadster body Sport coupe body that I mastered for Rep+Min. Inspired by Keith Weesner artwork Built essentially box stock when the revell 5w kit debuted

That's a good looking car. Clean conversion work as always from your bench.

The change of tires makes a HUGE difference towards being more accurate. And that paint, wow!

3D printed parts issue ?
Mr. Metallic replied to Jon Haigwood's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
This is disconcerting for sure. I got a really nicely rendered dropped hot rod axle that is 3D printed. I hope it doesn't end up having the same issue because there are parts of it that are even thinner than what you have there. -
May end up picking one up if I get a good deal. I can always use more surf boards, and a van would be fun to build.

Maybe they are reluctant, but I don't know why. The Revell Hemi Hydro based kit has been released a few times by itself over the last 25 years, hasn't it? And the Hull Raiser, in my opinion, is a better kit. The only release in that time span has been the Model King release with the Bonneville. I would certainly buy at least one, if not more, if it was released by itself.

Well if they continue to run the 40% off all model kits sale all the time then what's the difference? you'll just have to pay attention to which weeks the sale is running if you are travelling some distance specifically to shop there. I don't expect them to run it every other week like they have been for the last few months. If they only run it once a month I'll be happy. But I hate to think that they're running the sale every other week right now for some ulterior motive

That's one tough hot rod. Great stance.
-
Those are some tough looking hot rods. Not sure if the one with the Latham is finished, but if not here's a thought. The outlet for the "charged" fuel/air mixture is on the bottom-rear of the unit. If you can find a stock single carb intake for your flattie that is all you should need to hook up the Latham, I think. Did it myself awhile back
-
Drag City Casting does cast them. You are correct, the top in this kit is much better than the one in the full detail AMT kit.
-
Well, as they have shown with the 63 Nova wagon, if the molds for the upper half of the kit are gone or damaged, they can recreate those parts. Question is if it's financially viable. If they did a new tool for the body I would vote to have the doors molded in (that may be an unpopular opinion ? )
