The only problem with the Tamiya paint stands if you're as anal as I am, you'll be upset about them getting coated with paint. Cleaning primer from them is a bit of a challenge. The purple pond and metal is not a good combination.

I'd contact Round2. For what they're charging, this should have been caught by quality control.

I just found this and I'm very impressed. What scale is this?

34 Ford Pickup......
iBorg replied to bluestringer's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I'm following this thread....I acquired a chopped 34 in primer in a larger collection. It's interesting to me but I would like to get rid of the spare tire well. Any good fender units that can substitute for it? -
Two classic names from modeling's past.....Michael Quarterman and Paul Fisher. For road racing modeler's, Michael was a great source of information that he was always free to share. I doubt Paul will ever start his business back up after loosing it and his home in a California wildfire. Both made huge contributions to the hobby.

Wonderful build. Your body modifications are so well done that unless you REALLY know the body, you'd miss them. This really captures the spirit well. This summer I had a chance to drive by the old Morgan-McClure race building. Sad to see it no longer having transporters out side. -
Nice build.....I'll admit I almost bought one the first time I saw it. Bet I'll end up kicking myself for not doing it. The use of the rock tumbler is very interesting to me. What did you use for the grit?

AMT Cinderbug Hot Rod
iBorg replied to Modelbuilder Mark's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I didn't see the engine at first....there's just so much that's so nice. After seeing your pictures of the engine, I looked at your fotki page. Without a doubt one of the nicest Frontenac's ever. I'd love to see a step by step with instructions. Now I need to find a Frontenac to use on a project. I never expected to see one so nice. -
A good resin body built into a great model.

That is a great build! It looks like a replica and not a model. -
It would be a hard day's night before that happened. I see the possibility of those kits being reissued down a long and winding road as far as getting license. Definitely I'd think I feel fine and would twist and shout if somehow the powers to be would let it be. I know some of you can't buy me love but enough! Looking at the clock I realize it's almost yesterday.

My cousin had one of these built up.....simple glue together with decals. Man I wanted one. I'd looked for one at shows with no luck. I was thrilled to see the Mooneyes. I'm ecstatic to see this one.

Having been a fan of drag racing since 1970, I see this as a way to recapture what Pro Stock was. I am concerned with the years of the cars. These are not current production cars but a model year or two old. While I'd love Pro Stock and FSS to merge into this, the designated car's age limits future growth unless the OEM manufacturers produce future high performance models. The current PS cars seem like Pro Mod light. Hopefully this class will help get more fans in the stands. Maybe if its successful, NHRA will address the jello blobs in funny car.

I'm looking for a well detailed 4 cylinder water cooled engine to put into a race version of AMT's Scirocco. I know many modelers discount this kit much as I did but after playing with it a bit realize it is not the dog kit I thought it was. Any good pictures or comments on the Revell Volkswagen motor? Any other suggestions? THANKS!

While the article says both cars are in SoCal, I know the Mooneyes was at Garlits before the clone was built. I took pictures of it in the early 90's. Proof which one is the clone is the firewall. The original has a full firewall and the clone has edges wrapped by the body.

Holy Cow Batman......I've been active in this hobby since 1970. I'd heard of the AMT 1911 Chevrolet as a mythical unicorn. I really didn't think they existed. And to see two. WOW.

What's interesting is that thirty years ago when the Thomas Flyer was released, it was viewed as possibly AMT's worst selling kit EVER.

I'm curious about how the Mr. Norm decals were changed, beyond that, total lack of interest.

Who was/is DM? -
Maybe this will be a real boon to Atlantis and Moebius who mold in the US.

What I find noteworthy is the paint looks accurate. What I mean is it looks like the real car scaled down and not the over gloss of many models. The reflections look like what I'd expect from a restored Lotus at a car show. Did any Lotus have an engine compartment that clean?

If you're going to the expense of a CNC program to create the parts, you're better to 3D print with a resin printer. Can you CNC styrene, yes.....I've done it several times before. The problem you experience is plastic produces a great deal of heat when machined and often the removed plastic remelts into some sort of blob. To do it well, you need something like a blast of air to keep it cool and remove your waste. The 3D part would more than likely give you a better result with less frustration.
